Mela's

aj mela vekhan ayaan kuriya lahore diya Blum 3

Salaam

basically wanted your views on the mela's that are happening nationwide nowdays

good? bad? ok? should be avoided?

at one time they were a family thing, and even tho they still are, its far from it......dirty dancing, bhangra filth, and worst of all.....the girls go to pull, looking for something.........and the guys, are perverts, horny geezers

thats my opinion anyway, i stewarded last years oldham mela

i hate the damn thing, and avoid them entirely.....but i know everyone will be at todays and tomorrows in the mela in my area....also right opposite my house in the park!!! i can see it from my room...and hear it from as far as my shop :x

but theres gona be some islamic stalls with media and stuff on it, so i may be there jus to help, and if we have revivals then give some out

so has anyone bene to any of the mela's in their areas, whats your views on the thing? harmless fun?

i know someone who read nasheeds at the blackburn one

I have never been to one but have heard those who have been, dancing/free-mixing/guys/girls checking each other out, so are they good, nope!

This is funny kinda in relation to this, we had an Islamic programme in thistle hotel and one side of the hall was for men and the other for women and we had seperate doors for men and women to enter the hall but there was no pardah thingy (ie cloth) in the middle, anyway this guy who heard about this said "oh this is not right, how can you not have a pardah in an Islamic prog.", my cousin simply said you weren't too worried about pardah/free-mixing in the mela", he just went quiet and said "well when it comes to Islamic progs you should have parda"...To me that just stinks of double standards and I think the point the guy made was totally silly...

He dances with ecstasy and delight.

We worry about every little thing,
But once we get drunk on that love,
Whatever will be, will be.

you are right but thats why its even more important to do dawah there...and islamic stalls there are vital...

i dropped off 200 revival magazines at the islamic stall at todays oldham mela...an dwill inshallah be ther myself to do some dawah....

ive held many stalls in melas across the country and they are much needed....

I went to the London Mela in Gunnersbury Park in London with a Bengali friend and her family.

There was a distinct lack of Islamic stalls (there were some, but in very out of the way areas where most people wouldn't see them)

The Mela was cool.

I loved the Punjabi drums.

Have to say that there was a lot of "pulling/dating" going on.

I also got a 50 pound fine for parking on a yellow line on Pope's Lane next to Gunnersbury Park.

Horrible traffik wardens.

You shouldn't have parked your car there innit!

Traffic wardens are only doing their job.

People who park their cars in places they are not allowed to park cause traffic jams. You deserve it

sometimes i like to have some fun - clean fun of course thought never entered my head girls and boys were there for pulling is that why they're always dressed up so much!

however i wouldn't condemn mela's just because some people choose to be naughty they're not going to spoil it for me and my friends.

i like the music and food and stuff to buy even if its rubbish

Mela are disgusting like a platform for human beings to fornicate, organized by Jahali’s for Jahali’s. The further I pull myself always from cultural dogma then the closer I get real Islam prescribed to us the way it should be.

And people use to laugh when HT members whom were in the clubs given out their version of dawah!

There is a slight difference.

Clubbing is a no no with no redemption.

Mela's while vile do have some redeeming qualities. Not all evil. Alot of people do go there just to see what is happening.

Actually scrap that. I got a headache coz I can hear that mela from my room at home. Just a headache.

dont worry not everyone is there. i didnt go there.

I WAS AT MELA TODAY...

distributed plenty of revivals and spoke to many ppl....

so much things that are unislamic were there.... thats why i felt i had to go there and spread the message of islam thru the revival mag....

personally...melas are only good for dawah.... because then you are taking islam to the people...

the prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam (Peace and Blessings be upon him) said:
if you see munkar (EVIL) THEN WIPE IT OUT WITH YOUR HANDS, IF YOU CANT THEN SPEAK AGAINST IT WITH YOUR TONGUE, IF YOU CANT THEN DENY IT IN YOUR HEART AND THAT IS THE WEAKEST OF IMAN.....

thousands of muslims and non muslim are there...being entertained by anti islamic events...and the religious/islamic ppl stay away.... NO!!!!!!!!!!!!! we need to be there...so ppl who went to chill or flirt will at least go away with an islamic magazine, a leaflet, a chat by a brother/sister, an islamic cd/book, get a message of Islam...

its easy doing tabligh/ dawah at the mosque or at a conference.... but not so at the mela... its a challenge...and we have to be up for it....

I havent been to a Mela in my life...I often lecture teenage girls not to do so either.

I do love to attend Islamic charity events though.....there was one in my Park last week and there'll be another massive one next weekend which I'm looking to attend.

Na I think going to Mela is a waste of time and money. No one in my family went to the recent mela, firstly they did not have the time secondly they just could not be bothered.

Even though loads of women went who my mum knew, constantly told mum to go but my mum was not interested and besides she has better things to do at home.

Then the next day after the mela my mum asked one of the women who went what the mela was like. and heard there had been fighting going on between two women and the cops ended up coming down to stop it.

Who is the cat of the Forum? MEZ!
Your damn right!

loool, now that wud have been funny, two women fighting! hehem ive never seen that hppn before!

two women fighting is actually more reg in school playgrounds after schools then anywhere else

I've seen LOADS of fights in school play grounds when i go to pick lil sis frm school

in fact school playgrounds after schools are a lot like mela's

Saw two girls fighting yesterday. At work. Both hijabi's.

A small weak looking on sitting on a stronger looking one, just continuously punching her, while the other trying to back out, threatening her that she will pay or something.

They probably damaged a few nails. not enough power to do real damage. Unless the they twisted an ankle due to the heels.

.

cant imagine such a scene

did not know wether to laugh, or try to stop it.

neither did the ten or so others. so there was plenty of vocal 'stop it' 'leave it' not much dragging them apart.

But then I just got there at the end. Walked into the canteen, and was pretty surprised by what I saw.

That was the best Islamic Charity event I have ever been to.....much better then Islamic Expo/Excel.

The people were lovely, the stalls were full of spiritual books at low prices, there were loads of Islamic buisness's present, nothing was over priced, the auction was fun...I watched Islamic martial arts.....I watched Shaam group, a Falcon display etc...

Well organised, fun Islamic events are few and far between
