Do women know the off-side rule?:-)

Salaam

After the made by sky sports presenters about the female lineswoman its best to ask the question:

DO WOMEN UNDERSTAND THE FOOTBALL OFF-SIDE RULE?
(Do men:-)?? )

Does it matter?

Are men really sexist when it comes to women and football?

wasalaam

"Believing their microphones were off," LOL ouch!

I didn't even know female assistants existed!

Yes it was sexist!

no.

I only understood it properly a few months ago and I'm a bloke!
If your player is ahead of the ball and ahead of your opponent's last defender/closer to the goal, then they are offside. But it only counts as an offence/free kick if they handle the ball.

Is that about right?

yep

No, they changed it a few years ago. That was the old offside rule.

The old rule:

When you pass the ball, no member of your team should be past the last defender. (before that it was even equal distant I think...)

New rule:

When you pass the ball, no relevant/in play player should be past the last defender.

The difference is that if you are passing to your left and there is a player offside to your right, it is no longer a foul unless the player is considered a part of the move. That player can simply wait for the defenders to get past him and then make his move again.

EIther way, for people who don't watch football it is irrelevant - even to those who don't play professionally as most people dont really care about it too much.

Lol They both (in wording atleast) sound the same to me!

Yep no one cares about it, anyway.

The pundits were still sexist though - obviously the assistant ref's gna know the rule!

this is madness, so what he made a sexist comment does he deserve the death penalty no. Does he deserve to lose his job i don't think he does. Football is primarily a male arena, women who enter that arena can do so, but need to grow a tough skin. It's like with corporate business although their are female bosses, by in large in lucrative corporations the men are at the very top of the ladder, yet women still enter this line of work, and they put up with the sexism.

Unfortunately women will have to battle through the sexism if they wish to be successful. I mean what male boss is going to want to employ a woman in largely male orientated job if she is known for making complaints against the company for sexism? She won't even get through the front door.

Offside rule who cares, i think i know it. But my brother has told me a lot of men don't know it either so gender isn't the issue.

Well it was just a bit of banter, and some people took it very seriously, well theres two great pundits gone from skysports, skysports will not be the same without Andy Gray!....

Rocky

Why do you take football so seriously?

in my opinion the more religious you are, the more sexist their thoughts/comments.

Really? Surely truly religious people are less sexist? Unless you count chivalry as sexist; in that case I feel very sorry for you! LOL! ;P

hehe, i learnt the offside rule in a cartoon. Captain Tsubasa. Biggrin Biggrin Biggrin Biggrin Biggrin Biggrin

Is it true? Is it kind? Is it necessary?

I always thought it was when players went too far to the 'side' and so were considered 'off' the pitch cos they were outside the white lines

Women are sexist too but only a minority and people know them as hardcore feminists.

Please don't shout at me!

very generalised comments....
its like saying all women drivers are rubbish:-)

the 'religious' ppl you refer to who are more sexist are the religious zealots, the religious fanatics..... like the taliban.

its these kind of ppl who think women should stay at home, cant work, must wear niqab, shouldnt get an education, only good for making food and producing kids...

these ppl havent understood Islam at all I'm afraid

@ 'Ed - that is just cruel. Just because you;re a football efficianado does not mean that everyone else.

Its like laughing at you for not knowing the shape/structure of benzene - you haven't done chemistry and are not expected to know.

(or am I acting too sensibly? Someone recently said that I have never been under the age of 25... I might get there one day though.)

Haha it's cool, I knew it was silly, that's why I put it up Blum 3

I've had it explained to me, it's just too boring to concentrate on.

Some feminists aren't hardcore like "liberal feminists". If you want to hear hardcore feminists views listen to lesbian feminists! o.O

It was sexist and I'm a girl and I love football (partly cos my little brother made me watch it for some many years).

I don't know the off-side rule and nor do I care.

Someone did once explain it to me but I forgot. And I didn't bother reading the above posts properly.
