Question to all

A person steals from a Masjid's collection and is caught red handed (on camera to be precise).

Should this person be exposed to the community?

If you're from the GW area then you'll most likely know what/who I'm talking about.

Now I'm a pretty aggressive guy in RL. So I'm very proud of myself for treating this person badly.

I know about the covering another's sin. But this is pretty heinous crime and in Morocco they named a market after the punishment for this kind of crime. Juma-Ul-Finaa... Friday of death. Biggrin

I can't say. Not a Scholar you see!!!!!

But I would like to know what Hazrat Umar (RA) would do!!!!!!

Call the cops, let them deal with it? It is what they are there for.

If you are not a judge, it is best to avoid judging. Leave it for those who are paid to do such things.

Mob rule is pure evil, so no public expose - unless it "comes out" from the police, no public/community retribution.

I do agree about mob rule being evil. But some people just deserve it!

Why?

If the person stole from God then let God deal with it...

Why is this any worse than stealing from a person? I would say the opposite - it is worse stealing from an individual as God is all powerful and taking a few coin from the mosque will make no difference to Him, while stealing from a person will have an effect as people are dependant on money...

Stop letting anger cloud your judgement. Find the way of zen. woosah...

Sure, but its out now. Just how things unfold down in the hood Biggrin !

Well, let me tell you something, when this mob up in here moves I wont be stopping them. In fact (Rafa) I'll be stopping the people trying to stop it.

I'm sure you must have gathered I don't roll with the rest of the crew in G/W, but exceptions can be made- especially in this case.

You, you must have heard of a spate of burglaries in gw a while ago? Well, I suspected this guy and with proof. I suggested it then to one person who was burgled.

But anyhow maybe I've said too much (or too little) Lol Biggrin

Like I said, some people just deserve it!

Anyone seen lethal weapon 4? I love it when Jet Lee says 'In Hong Kong you'd already be dead'.

I would forgive him.

I will also tell him that I am going to
delete the CCTV video showing him in the act of stealing the money.

The most important question is:

If you were that person who stole, how would you feel after being treated in this way?

God's Holy Prophet taught us treat others as how you would like others to treat you in that same situation.

hmm..

Well it's out and the CCTV footage was never under my control anyhow.

I would say chop his hands off! Stealing from a masjid/charity is just unforgivable.

But of course you guys on here are whiter than white and in being so will always go for the PC answer.

Not whiter than white - if we were, maybe there would be more outrage?

I can see that people do wrong, and severe punishment will not always rectify the problems. Besides, the punishment should to punish the crime and NOT to let everyone else feel better about themselves.

Besides, I think mob rule is evil.

You've got to admit, the anonymity of the internet affords people to be saintly. Then someone like me comes along and rocks the apple cart and what ensues next is your mob rule. Everyone gathers to attack the person accusing them of falsehood and judgemental behaviour.

So my friend, you indeed yourself (if not directly) condone mob rule. I see it many times on these forums, where someone with a different opinion comes on and gets lambasted.

Even though I've pointed this out i'll get the usual.

Now I've pointed out that I've pointed it out, I may get left alone! Lol

The question still arises. This person has not learnt any lessons in life and continues with his destructive and selfish behaviour. (has done for 15 years or so).

I say capital punishment or maybe 15 years in solitary confinement.

Just because it happens, or if I sometimes partake in it, that does not make it right.

Besides, I doubt anyone agrees with my views onmuch - its just a matter of who shouts last shouts loudest and wins.

'Sometimes I partake' - muhahahaha

Well let me shout last, my old adversary.

Was it you who's child was ill not long ago?

Is he/she all better now then?

Yes, - that link has more details, unless there have been updates since.

Yes it was me. His ailment is for life, unless stem cell research is to offer a cure. Allah does say "There is no disease that Allah has created, except that He also has created its treatment".

But Alhumdulillah, he is of able mind and body. (I'd rather not divulge his condition)

I was never going to ask you to.

Oh okay, i was asking because you seem to be a lot more cheerful so i figured he was probably a little better.

m'A, the du'as worked then Pardon

OK, why did he steal? Is there any mitigation? Is he sorry? Important questions that NEED to be asked!

I doubt if we will find out - and to be honest, I do not need to know as I am not the one who will be passing punishment. Maybe it was petty habit, maybe it was to fuel other activities, maybe he had some needs. Maybe he is ten years old and he was dared to by his mates.

Does everyone agree that stealing from an individual is either just as bad or worse than this crime?

and plus you wanna humiliate him/her (although it's hard to imagine a woman getting caught stealing), don't you? I think it's enough just to let HIM/HER know that he/SHE have been caught. Punish him/her when you warn once and they do it again.

I know for a fact that Umar RA were quite erm strict in their approach. My teacher told me once that he would draw his sword at every sign of misbehaviour and stuff.

What does that mean? "woosah..."

lashed his son to death for drinking

It's easier to relate to an individual victim than a group but it's hard to say without some details. Someone could steal from a rich philanthropist money that would have helped save an orphan's life and heat an underground swimming pool; or from a pauper money that would have paid for a smack habit and a night's shelter; or from a charity money that would have built a school and given iPhones to every student. Possibly for a smack habit and a night's shelter but you never know, might be harbouring immigrants.

He stole the charity box with money in it. This wasn't the first time for it to be stolen.

You, I'm sorry but you will have to shut up. Nah just kidding bruv.

Well it's like this, people donate to the Masjid often, with the intention of improving the Masjid for their kids and generations to come. So, regardless of all intents and purposes, he stole from my kids and yours.
