10 Dilemmas faced by Muslims walking down the street
By Mr Beast
1.Overhear obscenities
Yes this is a major problem; I mean people go around saying f-ing this and that all the time and even over small things. So how can you go to your favourite supermarket without hearing a swear word. It’s kind of tough but then again if we're going to hate West we need to be able to have enough swear words in our vocab so we can express that hate.
2. Seeing members of the opposite sex
This is part of walking down a street no matter what street it is. People do it all the time and don't think much of it. Some people make the effort to be seen – they wear clothes that will attract attention. Even the white girls feel ok, showing themselves off to the black guys, well some do feel a bit insecure, but it’s about looking good at the end of the day. So it’s a bit hard explaining to members of the public on the street about modesty, haya etc.
3. Music
Everyone listens to music no matter what the season, but sadly you can buy really good music about love and sex, but very few songs cover topics of sexual abstinence and marriage. Walking down the street you might accidentally listen to some of this music. The songs about dancing can make you move a little to the music and make you stand out, but then again as Muslims we should stand out from the rest of the people based on our choice of listening to nasheeds (but no nasheeds with musical instruments mind).
4. Dogs
Very tough to get round this one, imagine walking down the street after going to the butchers shop and a passing dog smells the meat in your bag. Your mum aint going to be best pleased when you tell her that a dog ate what you were supposed to eat for dinner.
5. Getting hit by a car
This is quite exciting to watch, scenes of emergency services, large crowds and traffic as far as the eye can see. There you are walking down the street and all of a sudden you get hit by a car. The car is hard to avoid because it is so big and coming so fast and every other person around you get covered in your blood. It’s very hard to avoid contact with this liquid
6. Gossip
Nowadays gossiping is all that matters and talking about what this person or that person is up to is the norm. Whilst walking down a street you might see someone you know and they'll tell you some gossip. Telling your friend that as a Muslims you don't like gossiping won’t really wash and make you seem like a Johnny no mates and frigid. Also hitting anyone who gossips about your female relatives can get you arrested.
7. Spending money
These days almost all shops have window displays. It's difficult to walk down a street and not be tempted to buy something. I mean the big Capitalist companies pay marketing and brand consultants millions to have eye catching displays in their windows. And the Money you spend in these shops will be used to pay off the huge interest payments of company debts and most importantly the salaries of the depraved and evil Capitalists.
8. Stolen goods
Tough one this, some people might offer to sell you a top of the range watch or phone. But these things are likely to be stolen. Telling the guy that you can't buy stolen goods won't go down well especially with someone has no other means of earning a living. Also the idea that you can buy the stolen goods and the give them to charity is totally invalid.
9. Drugs
As Muslims we are required not to take drugs. But when you walk down the street you might get offered drugs. We have to say no even if it is against our desires. So imagine if some druggy wants to sell you drugs and you say no you don't want it. He will not be best pleased.
10. Getting stared at
Some Muslims born in the west face this problem, how can they walk down the street with their brown skin and not expect to be recognised as Muslims? This can be a major issue. It can hinder you from going about your daily life. Staring will leave you with no recourse but to smile and wave. If you do this then the stares will fade away but you will no longer be seen as a Muslim. They will think you are British because you waved and didn't walk away like a good disgruntled Muslim should.
A country which does not accept us as equal citizens and forces us to choose between being Muslims and being British in terms of walking down the street?
Saying no to walking down the street can label you a weirdo and ungrateful to the nation which gave you many opportunities to walk down the street, but you know to stand and represent a outgoing nation is treachery to your Muslim sense of hiding away from the rest of the world.
So where can we as Muslims choose to walk which is halal and will earn us the pleasure of Allah swt in this life and the next?
I feel really bad for laughing but that is so funny.

LOL
thats funny
"ThiS WoRlD Iz A PrIsOn 4 A BeLiVeR AnD PaRaDiSe 4 A NoN-BeLiVeR.........."
erm i dont know if your being sarcastic or serious but some of that stuff is just ridiculous.
You dont have to hear swearing and gossip esp if your in a world of your own (like me lol) or you have your headphones in.
If your walking down the street just keep your eyes lowered to the ground and that way you dont have to look at the opposite sex. Problemo solved.
spending money that depends on the individual. Some ppl are sooo stingy that they can easily walk past a shop and not feel tempted. Plus what’s wrong with buying something nice. If you can afford it then i dont see why not.
If ppl actually bothered to use the pedestrian crossings (which are there for a reason) instead of running across a busy road then they wont get killed.
Drugs and stolen goods again nobody is forcing your hand. If you say no thank you politely and move along they will get the hint. If your out roaming the streets at night and you get approached by such ppl and you dont buy and as a result you get your head kicked in then its your own fault for being out that late at night.

Interesting...
Some good points but.... what's wrong with music with clean lyrics? Musical instuments don't make any music haram, it's the lyrics that do that.
I don't understand, how can you smile and wave and get rid of the thought that you're Muslim? Sorry if you're not trying to say this but, if we just keep ourselves to ourselves people will be prejudiced. Or we can be friendly but practising. We can interact and destroy false notions about Muslims. Surely, people will say: "Maybe not all Muslims are extremists."
Chin up, mate! Life's too short.
Which ones are the good points?
The reason people ain't getting that your taking the mick, is because there are plenty of Muslim who DO have such ridiculous views (unfortunately...)

Nice one Beast!
i've think you've made my day

No need for name calling. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Unless I disagree.

I dont think western music with clean lyrics actually exists, but i could be wrong. If they are not swearing they are talking singing about all sort of haram things.
Are you actually allowed to listen to music where musical instruments are played? coz some nasheeds do have music.

Most religions have clean music along the lines of nasheeds (eg hymns, gospel, niggunim) and folk music such as klezmer is generally clean. Additionally jazz, classical and world music are frequently good, and even contemporary music such as soul (eg Bill Withers) can be perfectly safe. These are just a few examples. Cleverly marketed slick and sexualised pop culture is definitely common, but there are plenty of other choices.
There is a difference of opinion amongst the scholars.
Yes, Naz, there is some good western pop music. I can give a you a few examples if you like.

yeah sure

Salam,
An interesting topic for discussion Mr Beast.
Although I agree with points you have mentioned it is very difficult, if not impossible to avoid contact with such things in the western society.
Being born, raised and educated in the UK makes things somewhat more difficult as it is not that easy to just pick up and leave to a more habitable land, especially with children.
People have spent years building this "democratic" society and until such a time that muslims are the majority of occupiers in this land, things will not change. This said, it is neither our place in a foreign land as a lower majority to try to dictate what should and should not be allowed.
The best we can achieve is to attain to our standards as muslims in the hope that Allah swt will guide us through these times and prevent us from entertaining such activities. As a whole we can do this and should support each other.
We shall say no to drugs, avert our eyes, be mindful when spending money, avoid the temptation to purchase stolen goods, disregard the gossip and foul language, smile back when starred at and finally possibly but without too much force, kick the dog that goes to eat our halal meat.

Well i'm glad he's made your day, maybe both of you will make my day on the day of judgement, or maybe not if your actions are halal, i'm actually looking forward to accounting all those people who have insulted, abused and taken the mickey out of me on this forum.
On the last day some people will be laughing and others will be crying and apologising to those whom they insulted.
Indeed the hell fire is real and over 70 times hotter than the fire of this earth, so lets all be careful what we say to each other inshAllah
www.7cgen.com, the place to be
but if you were to forgive them than you could both enter Jannah together, insha'Allah.
Wouldn't that be better?
If you are forgiving of other people, then Allah (swt) will be forgiving of you.
Don't just do something! Stand there.
Nice.
Just ignore them Showkat, they obviously are very sad ppl who have alot of time of their hands and have nothing better to do!

That is exactly my point. You are so full of yourself.
You think anyone who dares criticise you is destined for hell.
You tell us to be careful what we say but you say whatever you like.
A few qs:
1, Where did I insult you?
2, Have you ever thought you might not be right all the time?
3, Your training to be teacher, right? If one of your pupils calls you names will you tell them they're destined for hell?

OK, I'll give you the ones that "Sheikh Anti-music" will have a VERY tough time proving haram.
Patience- Take That, the title says it all
Shine- Take That, Be ready to forgive someone
Cry- James Blunt, "I'm a friend"
Powerless (Say What You Want)- Nelly Furtado, bullies are really weak. My signature is based on this.
Father and Son- Ronan and Yusuf. Come on! Don't tell me you've never heard of that!
If Tomorrow Never Comes- Ronan Keating, just see the lyrics for this one.
Unwritten- Natasha Bedingfield, it's your life, so live it to the full!
I Bruise Easily- Natasha Bedingfield, recovery
One Last Chance- James Morrison, getting through a tough time.
There're more but I don't want to flood the Forums with every song I know. Of course there are many good nasheeds and other songs too, but you asked for western music.
