1. How many of you waste your hours on the net when you could be doing something useful elsewhere?
2. At what age, is it acceptable to spend hours away on the internet?

No, why?
Would you want your kid, teenager, spending most of their hours of time in the day on the internet?
erm i wouldn't thats why i said no :S
wait was ur question,
At what age, is it acceptable to spend hours away from the internet?
or

1. i do, trying to reduce these days, but time FLIES at supersonic speed when you're staring at a screen
2. teenagehood. because thats when you actually WASTE WASTE time. (as you dont play games anymore) or you could get in trouble (chats etc..) raising awareness of timewasting in Islam should be key. Self control and/or block websites/not allowed on certain website/give time limit.
Is it true? Is it kind? Is it necessary?
Me. I watch quite a few programmes online, although I rarely watch TV.
But days when I'm not online, I get alot done I've noticed. When doing coursework, atleast a good few hours I spend on YouTube or watching some programme.
If you are using the internet to avoid other stuff that is not the fault of the internet! As for whether it is useful at all that depends what you're doing. I find the internet a brilliant resource and could spend all week online without wasting any time. But I have wasted a lot of time online as well so, we should just individually look at whether we are properly using resources to accomplish what was intended or promised, or whether we use them for play and avoidance.
Who was blaming the internet?
Unfortunately not all of us are as efficient with timing.
Yep.
I think it is implied by the observation that staying away from the internet helps get things done. That is obvious if you have things to do. Someone who spends all day marvelling at products in the supermarket but doesn't actually need anything has wasted a lot of time, whereas the other customers haven't. I thought that was a useful distinction to raise in the context of the question and one or two of the answers. :?
Can I - just in case people haven't noticed - that mention that I am ignoring this topic?

If you think so.
I get most my work done on the computer by using chats and stuff because my mind wanders a lot.
I was leading more in the direction of younger kids using the net too much when they should be doing other things. Don't ask me what other things mean.
Oh, good - younger kids.. a straight ban til a reasonable age?
For one thing, homework that requires internet and research should be banned.

?
Don't think I'm letting you off here
No.
Just be wise with the time you spend on the net. Don't waste time.
Why?
Homework should be based on books and what has been taught in school.
(and because I have at times been asked to help)

So don't help if it gets to you.
Ocean, what on earth does your signature mean?
wouah! if we did i would never have discovered Revival. or being on it so often. my mum always wonders what i type away like this, and why i've always got that weird smile on my face...
@YOU:STRAIGHT BAN? You are one mean, evil person!
edit: I agree with the online homework. you cant burn them and dance around them

Once I figure out what it means, its awesomeness increases!
sorry.

I also know of a kid 8/9 who has g=his own email address/facebook account.
He finds/found it funny to send people emails with "YOU'RE GONNA DIE" or "I WILL KILL YOU" written in large letters.
As long as its just to people who know him... and you never know, he may be being supervised etc. I do doubt its safe for young kids to be online alone.
I didn't really use the internet til my 20's I think.
Then again, I also only recently started eating chicken and chips. I probably had it a handful of times before then.

Just to add to that, one of the big wigs thinks that soon when people reach maturity, they will need to start changing their names in order to escape their online histories where they may have done stupid things as kids.

That's understandable, in your days dial-up probably just came out
i was thinking along those lines too...but what to think of the fish and chips?
Yes, changing name...how much does it cost?
Is it true? Is it kind? Is it necessary?
Chicken and chips.
No idea.

I changed mine.
If you write out the deed yourself then the solicitor can't really charge you for that. If you don't then expect a hefty fee.
They'll just charge for proof-reading it and giving their signature at the bottom of the deed.
Can't remember how much though as I changed mine ages ago.
Thats pretty cool. Did you change your name for the reason we're talking about?
Chiken and Chips, apologies. ohh..Havent had it in ages..actually i dont really like it if i buy it outside...sometimes the chicken isnt cook properly
Is it true? Is it kind? Is it necessary?
No. It was actually parents who wanted to change it.

Is it true? Is it kind? Is it necessary?
