urdu/punjabi numbaz

I myself only know them to like 20 :oops: soo im worse off than you.

I just insist on people speaking in english and they blow it off me being silly or awkward... lol relies never take me seriously... which has its certain advantages.

I think it was LilSis who said she can barely speak a few words of Urdu...

i know mine up to 35 then like 40, 50, etc. Does anybody know the days of the week? i can say them but dont know which day is which lol

Days of the week in urdu:

Monday- (dont knw)
Tuesday- mangal
Wednesday- budh
Thrsday- Jum'araat
Friday- Jum'ah
Saturday- Haftah
Sunday- Atavaar

its easier in arabic!

its day one, day 2, day 3, day 4, day 5, Jumu'ah, Day 7

incidentally 7 is sabt. very similar to sabbath, the jewish day of rest.

I knw one or the other is derived from the other as they were pretty much comonly used in around the same area.

monday is peer in good urdu and sawmwaar in urdu/ punjabi.

I dnt knw my numbers properly, but after going to pak last yr I learnt em, I can work out what number they talking about but coming up with em myself takes me a lil while.

10- das
20- bees
30- tees
40- chaalees
50- pachaas
60- saat
70- sattar
80- assi
90- navey
100- so

then u can work out what they on abt eg batees is 32, pentees is 35, pentalees is 45, pensat is 65 etc.

So I KNW MORE than naj.

i know up to 22 and then some of the 30's 40's. 50's 100, 1000 etc

i once for a lnog time only knew upto 12

Worst thing is when little old ladies ask you what the price of something is.

I used to say for 59p, 5 and 9.

But now I just round up or down to the nearest number I know.

I know all my numbers to 100! and then the 1000s etc...i learnt em when i was younger, mum taught me, its kinda like a poem coz they are all in a rythm and once u get the hang of its really easy!

as for the days instead of hafta and atwaar my mum lot say waar and taar! i think maybe its a mirpuri thing

i think we mirpuris take a bit of of urdu and a bit of punjabi ( i mean lahori punjabi), twist it a little bit (add some masala as well) and then come up with our own version. Although we speak mirpuri, the written language is still urdu i think.....its just another dialect or a slang version of punjabi

and yes i think u are the only non mirpuri or kashmiri here....so watch what u say :evil: lol

Got to agree wiv you there, i thought it was just my family that spoke like that lol, me asian mates use to [b]get drunk[/b] of the way i use to speak in college coz they spoke really posh urdu (well i think it was 😃 )

Hey Naz i no wat u mean, but we should be proud of wat we have inherited (even if it is a slightly messed up language system!)

i dont think urdu is posh at all....i know its sounds more polite than punjabi and u know like MP'ns

like we say AAP and u ppl say TU or tusan...sounds disrespectful especially to elders.

but i'd rather know punjabi coz its weird being the only ones being urdu speakers in de whole generation, actually it sounds kiddie fyde to me, when u get 4/5 year olds speaking fluent punjabi.

no the basics like yes and no, but anything more advanced gets a bit complicated 😃

mirpuri is beautiful languange

but the most beautiful lang i heard is suraiqi.... man thats amazing.. so poetic
