I was not anonymous (apart from the times I was too lazy to log in...).
However I did occasionally play the devils advocate, and some views I wrote were pretty harsh (even though I probably still hold most of them).
I will remain pretty anonymous.

I agree that the forum has changed, before the forum was known for it discussion which was always done in a good manner, where people would have their views but they used to project them with humour and people knew where the line was and never cross it (apart from a few occasion). I read somewhere on teh forum a little someone saying her ambition is too wear a all pink outfit with hijaab, normally that a discussion I wouldn't mind having, but now i wouldn't because I fear people will step over the line and make it into a bigger issue then it need to be.

these forums are turning in to rants and sectarian debates totally because of Med, naj, mast kuri, jazzy, al quds and a few other very sectarian, mostly deobandi, new members.
They have taken thsi forum downhill, have narrow minded , backward, intolerant and sectarian views.
I think the deobandi gang should feel proud of themselves...they have achieved what they came here to do .
wasalaam
Don't you think this is abit harsh ED, You can't simply blame it on one side, as far as I know these lot are not the one making a fuss about being deobandi, you are. So who really making this forum Sectarian. I know that some members are extremely harsh on a certain group of people, which isn't right. But saying that it always been the case. Take Omrow and his hatred for Wahabbi, this has been a constant theme for nearly all the time I been on the forum, but no one accuse him of making the forum secterian.
I agree that this forum need to get pass accussing other groups with little facts and evidence. The Forum just need stronger moderating IMO.

"A true Muslim is thankful to Allah in prosperity, and resigned to His will in adversity."
Having been away for a week, i've just been going thru some of the threads here, and what i see saddens me.
Many old members have left. whats happened to Shabnam, Latifah, Tara, Dave, Yashmaki.... to name a few. with these old members the forum used to be lighthearted and a welcome break from work. yes we'd learn things, but we'd also have a laugh.
nowadays its one new member after another, coming to taunt or argue. majority of the threads are no longer meaningful - all ppl do is argue over silly things. If, tomorrow, a non-Muslim came onto this forum, all he or she'd see is some serious muslims getting uptight over whether theyr allowed to sniff glue or not!
I think Ed and Admin should be aware that one of our old members actually felt bullied into leaving by a new member. where has our respect for eachother gone? no1 should have to put up with abuse due to the opinions they hold. no offence guys, but your moderating is lacking in some places.
i dunno if all these arguments go by your theory of ppl arguing more whilst they'r fasting Admin, but if so, i sincerely hope all this will subside after Eid. if not, i think i'll get going too.
Wassalaam,
A Sister-in-Islam

Aasiyah, many of the problems you have outlined are true.
Many of the old members Shabs, Latifah, Dave and the likes have left. Possibly for many reasons and not all of them as negatives. Some people just grow out of it after a while.
With the magazine getting more and more exposure we are bound to get a load of new members. Whom hav most likely not read the Rules bit of the board and take to waffling a little too much. I can assure you that the moderating team are taking steps to regulate the boards more. Any immediate breach of the Rules will result in Posts/Threads being deleted or Editted.
However i would be interested in knowing who if anyone feels they are being bullied by another member. As bullying of any kind WILL NOT BE TOLERATED. If anyone has any such issues pls get in touch with either myself or another Mod. We do recognise that there has been a lack of moderating on the boards due to us mods having other commitments, but i can assure you we are trying to deal with this.

Okay then.
Maybe the mods should have some sort of referendum thread where the members can say exactly what kind of activity presently going on needs to be curtailed...
Would the mods consider turning a few of the more prominent members (other than me) for Moderating positions? Certainly the old guard knows the difference between moderating and censoring and wouldn't cross the line.
Besides - with more mods we could have mods watching the mods so it wouldn't matter if there were abuses because they could be easily corrected!
Hey we already have a secret police! erm... I mean secret mods...
And mods can edit posts of other mods. Heck, even I have been overruled by some mod! (if i find out which one...)
And the mods have done a spiffing job. a few weeks ago we were near anarchy... now its just random rioting... in sales that is called a positive trend.
