Assalamu Alaikum,
I'm thinking of moving to Scotland for various reasons, and since we have family there it seems like a good starting point. So I've been told to research Scotland. I'm sure someone here is scottish, but can't remember who??
Is it a good place to move into as a Muslim? What area in Scot is best for Muslims as far as islamic resources go mosques, islamic institutions etc, and of course asian food groceries etc.
Is there an active community, lots of dawah work, islamic classes , lectures etc?
What are interfaith relations like good, bad, poor non existant?
*Important need to know if there are alim classes available for husband, he'd have to transfer over.
And any other information about the local areas would be helpful.
Please get back soon.
Jazak'Allah
Gotta run now

Assalamu Alaikum,
Live in the west midlands area, more near leicester. I'm not fussed about how many masjids in one area, as long as there is one, that's sufficient.
Anyways the problem i see with Brum is many many beautiful mosques, but most stand empty cept on Fridays, and Ramadan. Most cities in uk don't require more mosques they need more initiatives to encourage ppl in to worship.
Scotland is the only place we're considering because we have some family there. It would be really daunting to move to a new city and know nobody there. The support from family in helping us to move, relocate, rent a new place etc, and local knowledge would be valuable. Going it alone seems all too scary for us.
I've been Scotland once before, when I was a kid. It's actually the most vivid and cherished memory I have. It was winter, it was extremely blustery and we were on the coast awaiting a ship. I remember that there was a lot of open space, greenery never too far away. The city was large spacious, every thing looked clean aswell, unlike here.
The weather wouldn't bother me, coz strange as it may sound I look forward to the cold weather. I like the frost on the roof tops and pavements. I love the snow, when it actually bothers to fall. Not keen on rain all the time, but i think that's just Britain we get a lot of rain, shouldn't complain really it's a blessing. If we never had rain then we'd be complaining oh it's too dry too hot.
He wants to move Edinburgh, do you know anything about resources over there? His cousins there thats why. He doesn't want to ask them yet, coz we are considering our options first. Don't want my family finding out yet, they'd be upset.

Going to Scotland in Xmas holidays it's all booked, can't wait!!!! lol Can't remember last holiday :(. I want to see loch Lomond. Angel you been there? I saw pics looks amazing.
I wanted to go to the notorious loch ness but it's too far out from Edinburgh hubby send next time can't go this time drat! Hubby said if i argue too much he'll leave me on the highlands.
Any sites i must see in Edinburgh tourist attractions? Edinburgh central mosque looks pretty cool. A cross between a scottish castle and islamic architecture.
I'm gona try to get a thin tartan scarf to wrap as a niqab, I'm soo looking forward to it, can't you tell! lol

Loch Lomand is beautiful, i have been a few times. its definitely worth visiting esp. if you love scenery! Also in scotland, places such as Arran and Ayr are very pretty, if you like beaches and that. (maybe not in winter though!)
Edinburgh Castle is somethin you should visit its got so much history in it and very lovely, apart from that i aint clued up on edinburgh much.
Are u gona come glasgow or u just goin to Edinburgh?

I duno, i think they have some sorta "mela" thing or sumthin! Its crazy seen on tele but never been, nor do i intend to, i hate havin too many ppl around me!

oh I know i been researching like a freak lol. They have gigantic hogmanay festivals. The scots Equivalent of new years day celebrated on 31 dec. Celebrations for 4 days starting on 29th. Concerts, streets processions, fireworks displays etc I remember they used to show it on tv, still do I expect. Celebrations are bigger than new years celeb. in London.
A lot of drinking though so i suppose a lot of vommit too.I've heard these Scots drink more than the English  . I'm not staying for that, I leave 1 day before that starts phew lol
angel---This time just visiting Edinburgh, there for a week. Insha'Allah when I come over again visit Glasgow then maybe we can meet!
Muslims In Scotland Info Please!
Yeah i'm deffo going Edinburgh Castle, and Edin central mosque not far off.
I wanted to see Glasgow mosque, I'm sure that another one with unusual architecture it's a landmark right. I mean popular with the public?
Might go Palace of Hollyroodhouse, queens official residence in Scotland. Will they let a niqabi and bearded man through? loool Nah I don't love the royalty but i am fascinated by architecture from bygone times. Modern day stuff doesn't do it for me.
There's the Royal Yacht too. Ship is open to the public.
I'm gona try see more castles coz i just love them. Anyone ever been warwickshire castle?, now that is a sight to see. They've even got the original torture chambers there. You get to climb the tallest tower, and they've put a glass piece under your feet. So if you're scared of heights don't look down. Not that I'm bias but i still think it's the best castle in the world lool
I'd love to visit the ancient mosques/other buildings in Iran but money talks, haven't got that kind of cash right now.
I will try to visit some beaches. Best time to go in the cold season fewer naked ppl about right 😂

lol @ the beaches
yeah the scots and the irish are known to be more into drinkin than the english

How u doin?
The picture you have is our one and only amazing mosque in Glasgow, very nice, the other mosques are like houses and extended buildings but nevertheless we are glad to have them.
If you are visiting Edingburgh then you have to go and visit the zoo as well, its a must place to see, very big and cool.
In Scotland Fort William is a great place, Cairngorms great mountainous place, there is a safari park as well. Edinburgh castle is the best. And then there are historical places such as Calanais Standing Stones, Stirling Castle. In Glasgow there is absoutely gorgeous uni, called University of Glasgow, amazing place to see.
I'll let you know about other places. And if you wanna come down to Glasgow and don't have family you are more than welcome to my house.
Take care wish you all the best
We Glaswegians are known for our hospitality.

proper snow means more than a couple inches thick. We had decent snow this year (in february...), but when I was a kid I remember far more snow. I remember one year it even snowed heavily in april! now we just get some snow flakes and everybody makes merry that it is snowing.
