big cats in general are amazing creatures but there is something even stranger and wonderful.

Apparently tigers and lions can cross breed. If lion and tigress have a cub then it is called one thing; if tiger and lioness have a cub then it called another thing. Liger and Tigon i think they called but cant remember which way round.

Now depending on which way round the parents were, one of the above is half size of normal big cat, and other is DOUBLE the size of a big cat. Amzing or what? Seen some pics of these a few weeks back in a book and they look sooooo exotic, if u want an exotic pet forget tigers, lions, snakes etc- rather get a liger or tigon.

Tigers are among the cleanest animals in the animal kingdom.

They take regular baths.

That's a fact.

And they preen.

I dunno precisely what preening is - but it's gotta be a good thing.

Apparently Tigons cannot breed and are sterile while Ligers can breed and are not sterile.

So it's possible to be a 100% Liger without having a Tiger or Lion parent!

A liger is the result of breeding a male lion with a female tiger. It has stripes and spots. The spots are inherited from the lion parent even though adult lions do not appear to be spotted.
The liger is a hybrid cat that inherits most of the strengths of both parent species and is larger than either. By way of size comparison, male Siberian tigers (the largest non-extinct naturally occurring member of the cat family, Felidea) average between 400 and 600 pounds. We estimate ligers to weigh about twice that.
All ligers are presumed to be born sterile. This is not unusual for hybrids. Mules are the result of breeding a horse with a donkey and are also presumed to be sterile, although there is an occasional, extremely rare, exception.
