this year inshaa'Allah, no tv, radio or internet throughout the whole of ramadan. need to concentrate more on my salah, quran, dhikr, durood etc.

but im sure others do tune in and watch a lot of them qtv programs.

Naz — Sun, 9 Sep 2007 - 21:41

dont get much time to listen to the radio or watch tv these days. During Ramzan defo no tv or radio. Will be spending time reading Quran, namaz and doing uni work.

Imaani — Mon, 10 Sep 2007 - 21:14

Our local Ramadan radio is quite good I think, it was so popular it got a 5 year license to transmit all year round but I have to say after Ramadan I have hardly listened to it. And I get the feeling not many others do either. Just because of lack of time really.

It's interesting, has a wide variety of stuff on it and I have learnt a lot from it. But unfortunately I don't really have much time to sit and listen to it. Sometimes though, if I'm being honest, a lot of it is waffle and I find that really boring and a waste of time. During Ramadan it will be on in our house though, and I will make a conscious effort to listen to it when I'm not praying or reading the Quran.

I don't feel the need to ban myself from TV, radio or internet during Ramadan though. It's not even that big a deal in my life and I don't feel like it's going to distract me. I hardly watch any TV at all these days but I do sometimes listen to music, but again it won't be an issue, I just won't listen to any during Ramadan. It won't be tough at all, although I remember the time when it was absolutely impossible.

I have to say I really admire all those people who run any programmes on the radio during Ramadan. It's a lot of hard work and I always feel as though they're giving up a lot just to give something to everyone else. That's really great of them and may Allah swt reward everyone's effort.

Angel — Tue, 11 Sep 2007 - 12:01

what music do u listen to?

if its "haram" then it shouldnt only be stopped during ramadan but more of an effort to give it up completely. it is hard but not imposible, ask me!

Imaani — Tue, 11 Sep 2007 - 19:07

Lol, I do not listen to 'haram' music. I hardly listen to any music at all now, but previously listened to a lot, so I know it actually isn't very hard to give up. I stopped listening to so much music because there are a million and one better things I can be doing instead. It didn't have much at all to do with the content because not all western music is 'haram'. It just occupied too big a chunk of my time. So especially in Ramadan I would like to use my spare time more productively, so I just meant I won't put on a CD when I feel as though there's not much else to do, or just to help the time go by, as I do other times in the year. Pretty much the same reasons people intend on limiting time spent on the internet or watching TV, I doubt it has much to do with the content, just the time spent.

Ive always felt bad that i never learnt to play a musical instrument.

I was thinking of taking up the guitar in my spare time.

Would that fall under the same heading of *haraam*

Presently the media player says "ready" but doesn't play, and when I click the asx link to the side it loads a blank. I have Firefox and several media players including Quicktime, WMP and Real.

Beast — Sat, 15 Sep 2007 - 23:21
Anyone got this to work?
Doesn't work for me either.

Don't believe the hype of firefox being better! It never was and never will be! Use IE.

Joie de Vivre — Mon, 17 Sep 2007 - 15:16

IE is bulkier and harder to customise. But Firefox isn't always 100% stable especially with all the add-ons. A lot of websites these days only work at their best with one or the other. Horses for courses. I don't generally believe in rebelling against Microsoft but I had some problems with IE so I made the switch. (Incidentally my bro just got an iMac and despite my initial scoffing it really is an impressive machine.) 🙂

Its currently not working on IE either.

I went off IE a long time ago. Too many problems.

Firefox rules.... and its not owned by an evil corporation.

Imaani — Fri, 21 Sep 2007 - 22:59

Heard some of the show last night on reverts/converts and mashallah it was really good.

I remember Sister Jameelah from last years show and mashallah she's really inspiring.

They're always interesting but just on very late!

Last year you had a Q & A show with Shayke Salim Ghisa which I thought was really good, but mashallah all the topics you choose are interesting. And Brother Zahid is really funny.

Noor — Fri, 21 Sep 2007 - 23:40
