You seem to be confusing Firefox with Mozilla. it's by the same company, but Firefox is far more usable.

What, with actually using Norton.

Whats wrong with norton, I've got the 2006 version. It protects 370 million computers worldwide. What have you got?

I aani I expect something similar on your PC, where all ads are replaces with red bars?

Huh?

Admin I think you're exaggerating about internet explorer. If you have an up-to-date internet security software and operating software like myself, I don't see how my pc can be so vulnerable. I scan my pc at least once a week and got other bits of software to keep my pc in tip-top condition. I've never had any hackers or viruses. The only time I got viruses was when I was downloading loads of stuff from an unreliable site but norton detected it and removed it quickly. I only need to press one button to update it, I don't need to go to any website and search for it.

I aani = Imaani. missed out the 'm'.

You need a powerful computer to run Norton. It's a resource hog. I use AVG. It's free, and it's lightweight (I have set it to automatically download it's updates every time I start up my pc.). I have heard NOD32 is faster, but it costs.

If Norton has improves recently, my opinion may be dated.

oh. and I HATE Internet explorer. It's because I make websites I know of more niggles than those who just use it. Its security issues are huge, but then again nothing is fully secure. But it's just a buggy piece of gos se. I hate it I hate it I hate it (copying Sirus there... )

Even WITH service patch 2 and full updates, you should look into the FEATURE called activex! (very recently it has been tamed into asking for permission, but before that it had full reign over your pc.)

I've got a 3.6GHz processor, don't notice any difference anyway. Gonna upgrade my RAM to 2GB soon.

Norton also has automatic updates but I like to press the update button anyway, it feels good Biggrin
I've seen the AVG website, you need to buy it, or is there something you're not telling me :? ....or have you got a trial verson?
The norton I've got comes with anti-virus, firewall, antispam & goback. Thinking of getting systemworks, then I'll have the full range.

What's that?

AVG has a free version for personal use.

I just use the standard firewall, as otehrs have given me problems in the past.

I use thinderbird for email which has built in spam filters. Back up facilities normally take up too much space for my liking, so I do not use them.

You have a pretty powerful rig there. No wonder you do not notice the hit from Norton. However I would still assume you will get a massive speed boost if you disabled it.

I don't trust these companies to protect my pc if they are giving away their software for free.

What!....and get viruses and hackers running wild in my pc?

Btw. admin were you referring to ActiveX before, I've got version 9.0c....what were you saying about it?

dumb question... what happened to the search option for the forum? The one where you could search for posts and stuff...

...why is the word dumb banned?

lo, its been a while. I had almost forgot about it. Too many people were using that word, and I got fed up. Must be about a year ago now!

For search, on the main site use the google search box. I got rid of the internal search as it was taking up too much room, but I have not added the search box through google to the forums yet.

What is the banned word?....I didn't have an opportunity to use it Sad

It's really stupid.

If you hit it you'll find out.

Arrghhh......it's soo annoying

I'v tried all the 'bad' words but I still can't guess it.

Give me a clue, it starts with the letter.....

It's not a 'bad' word. Just a stupid word. I banned it becasue too many people were using it. I found it's use stupid.

Just forget about it. You will find it totally stupid.

DO any of you two have some sort of internet filtering software? If you do, then cool. If not I willneed to investigate why not everyone can see it.

Yep, got something called a pop-up blocker and the add blocker option is ticked.

Pop-up blocking only stops opening unsolicited pop-up windows. But ad blocking is the culprit, if you just disable ad blocking you should be able to see the ad's, but keep it on anyway as I'm assuming you won't want to see the annoying ad's, and it will load your pages faster.

Admin you....

Admin as you know about browsers coz you do web editing, I downloaded firefox yesterday, and erm.....I quite like it  ....but that doesn't mean I'll stop using IE.

I read the info on firefox's website and they were saying all those things about IE and how the US department of something recommends everyone to switch browsers coz IE has a major loophole....haven't they fixed it yet?

But the problem with firefox is that it's not loading some websites properly, it loads with IE but not with firefox. Firefox is asking me to download add-on's.

Is there any other things I should know about?

I think I'll make firefox my default browser....if it can load websites properly and doesn't cause any problems.

I've noticed firefox is abit faster loading websites than IE. The tabs are well cool 8). I had the ebay toolbar in my IE browser, but don't think it works on firefox.

It updates very quickly, with IE I had to click on windows update and it took ages.
