The thing about the Jahilliya is that it was jahiliyyah. Dark ages. not many people were into literature. There were poets, but they generally narrated vocally.

There must be some info about it. Just not in english. English is a recent language...

the story of Abraha is mentioned in the Quran (surah feel, as admin mentioned) - i think it happened only 5 years before the birth of the Prophet (s.a.w) tho, when his grandfather, Abdul-Mutallib, was in charge.

Saba was a kingdom, there is a dispute about whether it existed in the region of what is now Yemen, or Ethiopia...

I see there hasn't been much research into this, they are pretty far apart - though i've heard that the ethnic ethiopians speak a very strange arabic dialect and are related to the Yemenis somehow so I see where that's coming from.

I say that because while i do not normally care about myself, I do not care about others either.

You never know we all may think of ourselves as vain, self obsessed.

But I talk about myself far too much on here. (and still people do not know me!). In real life, I do not say anything about how I feel, my reactions are controlled, my rage is only shown when i want to show it.

I do not like myself, and what i have become. However I am at a loss at how to change me. I am far too lazy. I am far oo reserved. Sometimes my lack of energy can demotivate others.

I have recently also been called arrogant. It was like a bolt had struck me. I had previously made certain i never had that trait. I still think i do not, but being told about arrogance was shocking. I have gained another flaw, if i am now arrogant.

Which brings up a curious question - Muslims claim Muhammad was a direct descendant of Abraham. I've also heard the claim that people know his ancestry back to Adam.

Is that actually written somewhere or based in something or is it islamic folklore?

when european historians/geographers told of a rich ethiopian culture they were laughed at.

Just looked and have an image of it on my wall... (along with a calendar dating 1998...)

It goes back to Prophet Adam (as), but I am sure there are many missing names there...

I have a lot of respect for the city of Axum particularly - it's a sort of ethiopian mecca

I studied a bit of Ethiopian history last year, it was really interesting. They gave the Italians a good pasting in one war, first African nation to defeat a European army, so I belive.

Emperor Haile Selassie was a strange character, one of those old fashioned total monarchs. Considered a God by some.

What did Emperor Selassie do that made him such an important figure in world politics? People still quote him and talk about his involvement in world peace or something... don't really know much about him.

And you MUST be talking about the Rastafarians - lol they have some interesting beliefs, Salassie sent the archbishop of the orthodox church to Jamaica to set them straight and supposedly sent a letter that read, in part:

"There is a problem in Jamaica… Please, help these people. They are misunderstanding, they do not understand our culture… They need a church to be established and you are chosen to go."

Yeah, Mussolini couldn't bare the shame of the defeat so had another go when he got into power. Italian armies were/are pretty shambolic, even the Greeks beat them.

Selassie obviously wasn't a very powerful god, he had to ask the League of Nations to help get rid of the Italians from his land.

As for Selassie - he didn't actually claim to be God did he? I thought the Rastafarians just sorta elected him God and he politely dissented.
