Most Muslims pray, fast, give charity, avoid the haraam…and do the basics.
Some even actively work for Islam, by making a difference in their community, doing talks, organising classes and programmes etc
However, out of thousands and thousands of supposedly ‘active’ Muslims. Only a handful of them have a loving, relationship with God.
It’s not something that’s easy to generate…after all, how can you have a relationship with someone that you’ve never seen, heard or met.
What’s your relationship like with God? Is He the first One you turn to when you’re in trouble? Do you even acknowledge Him when something good happens your way? Or do you only acknowledge Him when you hit rock bottom and can’t see any other way?
Has your relationship grown stronger/weaker over the years?
And how to you perceive Him? It is said that our opinion of Him, shapes our relationship with Him. Do you perceive Him as a Loving, Caring, Protector? Or a vengeful God?
Do you ever blame Him, subconsciously when things go wrong in your life? Is He the One you think of first when something good happens in your life?
Do you go out of your way to be there for others….simply and only so that He may be pleased with you? Do you ever do extra stuff simply for His pleasure.
Do you even desire a deeper and closer relationship and friendship with God? Do you even know how to strengthen your relationship with Him? Is your relationship with Him a cause of concern? Does this even bother you?

Wasalaam
at times when i look around, and see no support, no-one there to turn to, I then tend to look towards Allah swt and His Beloved Messenger (SAW) for help
At other times, one can become forgetful, but lately my outlook to life has changed a lot, and i try to look to Allah swt for help, support, reliance
I know anything bad in life is from me, and Allah swt way of testing me.....and i know that all is from Allah swt - nothing can be done without His command.......this became more and more apparent in my thoughts during uni, stress, exams, results

When something good happens in my life the Allah (swt) is the first to enter my thoughts.
When something bad happens in my life i turn to Allah (swt) for guidance and strength.
I would say my relationship with Allah (swt) has always been good but at this point in my life i would say it is the strongest.
When something goes wrong i never blame Allah (swt) i believe that it is my fault and that i must have sinned in some way for something bad to happen to me.
The past year has been a very difficult time for me and it is Allah (swt) that has provided me with comfort and peace of mind.

It was my mum who gave me the foundation to start a very strong relationship with Allah (swt)….as a child, if I had a ‘bad day’ in school, it was cos I didn’t read my Fajr and/or pary to Allah (swt) the night before.
Whenever, something good happened to me in my life, be it something as minute as getting full marks in my times tables test, it was because I had given 20p Sadqa and/or did a lot of dua the night before…and then I was made to read two nafl Shukr.
That played a really strong part in establishing my trust in Allah (swt)….ever since then, He’s the first One I turn to when I’m stressed (even minor stress – such as having to do a 3000 words essay) and the first One I thank when I something good happens in my life (even if its something minor as finding a bargain).
However, since I have a very loving relationship with Allah (swt) – I’ve always felt incredibly blessed….my love, trust and faith is shaken up when bad stuff happens in my life…its only happened about twice in my life, however I’ve always disgusted at my lack of faith in those instances.
I cannot have any relationship with Allah unless I first accept His designated Prophet and Imam.
Therefore, I love Prophet Muhammad and Imam Ali (peace be upon them both).
Loving Imam Ali is path of true humanity. Your heart gets filled with love for other people.
I believe if you reject anyone appointed over you by God then you cannot have a proper and full relationship. Love would be deprived for you. Prophet is Messenger for all Universe and Imam Ali is the Master of the Universe. Whenever I need anything, I know where to go. Whenever I am stuck with a problem, I simply ask Imam Ali to do it for me. So, far Imam Ali has not let me down. God loves those who love Imam Ali. He ignore those who ignore Imam Ali.

so what your trying to say is that you love Imam Ali more than Allah (swt) and when you have a dilemma rather then turning to Allah (swt) your creator you turn to Imam Ali?
I dont know if you realise this or not Malik but it is Allah (swt) that will judge us on the day of Judgement and NOT Imam Ali and it is Allah (swt) ALONE that will decide who shall go to paradise and NOT Imam Ali!

I don't know whether you realise it or not brother Naz, but Prophet did say that it will be Imam Ali who will judge on the day of judgemant. Imam Ali will decide who will go to Hell and who will go to Paradise.
I did not say I love Allah less than Imam Ali.
I love Allah the most, then the Prophet, then Imam Ali.
I turn to Imam Ali because that is what Islam requires me to do. Allah will not help me if I ignore the one whom He made Master of the Universe. It is Allah who helps but only through Imam Ali. That is true Islam. That is what I believe Prophet taught us.

You turn to Allah swt, and you can turn to the waseela of His Beloved Messenger (SAW), as well as Sayyedina Ali (RA) etc.
I love Hazrat Ali (RA) too.......but your love is out of perspective. I dont love him any less, but the Love for The Beloved (SAW) should be more than anything in the entire universe.
During my exams i would repetitvely plead, 'Ya Rasulallah Unzar Haalana, Ya Habibillahi Isma Kaalana', as well as, 'Ya Ali Madad' and 'Ya Ali Mushkal Kusha'..........there is no doubt using these phrases are beneficial, and remembering The Beloved Messenger (SAW), Hazrat Ali (RA), the Awliya etc

There is a hadith our Allamah was relating that Prophet said: "O Ali you will judge between people on the last day." I dont remember the reference. He was quoting Sunni books.

well sister Malik i dont know where your getting your info from but its Allah (swt) (your creator) that will judge us on the day of judgement. Your post shows more love for Imam Ali than for your creator Allah (swt). Islam does not state for you to turn to Imam Ali first but rather your creator Allah (swt) and the holy Qu'ran.

The true aqeedah of Ahl us Sunnah wal Jam'ah is that you go through the Holy Prophet (upon whom be peace) to reach Allah.
And it is through the Holy Prophet (upon whom be peace) we will enter paradise.
Through the Holy Prophet we have the Quran, through him we read our Salah. Our shahada is not accepted without his name and our Salah is not accepted without sending salaam on him.

You are being very harsh. There are evidences and people which probably support his view and only Allah knows best what is true.
Just be sincere and pray that Allah (swt) guides us and our fellow Muslims.

everyone seems to be approaching malik's views from a Sunni perspective. this is not fair on him.
we should just let him explain his Shia beliefs to us, if he wishes.
