Bitter, Depressed And Angry
Salaam
…Such people are very, very difficult to get on with.
I understand that maybe, something may have happened to them, that made them like that today…and alhumdullilah, I haven’t ever had a really bad, negative experience in life.
BUT, I do know many, many people (friends and family) who have had some negative past experience…I know men/women who become registered blind at a fairly young age, I know people who became physically disabled at a young age, I know women who’ve had many miscarriages and are still unable to conceive, I know women who have been victims of extreme domestic violence, I know people who have lost their parents at a young age, I know people who have been kicked of their postgraduate course (unfairly) only weeks before graduation, I people who have lost their homes, businesses and family at a young age. I even know people who have been through inhumane, disgusting and cruel child abuse when they were younger….however, they all have something in common.
Their warm, happy and bright personality. Which makes you overlook all the stress they have went through. And because they don’t brood over it, you cant but overlook what they’ve been through either.
I rate the strength, character and Iman of such people.
On the other hand…I know of men who have lost their hair and wasted money on a hair transplant that didn’t work, YEARS ago. And they still haven’t got over it.
Telling negative people to “Shut up, and just get over it” would be insensitive.
I hate getting into a mood or strop over something that’s happened – I do try to snap out of it as soon as I can…its makes you feel bitter and cant be good for your state of mind and Iman.
So, is ignoring such people the best option? Or should we be trying to understand what they went through, and helping them to come to terms with it?
Have there been periods in your life when you were bitter, angry and depressed? How long did they last and how did you snap out of them?
Wasalaam

alhamdulilah i've never experienced anything of the sort so far in my life. at times i've been angry but that’s never lasted longer than a couple of days. life's too short, no point wasting time being angry and bitter.

Don't flatter yourself brother.
As my Shaykh says, Badgamani (suspicion) in Islam is a sin.

I was born angry and will remain angry till I’m buried, Insha’Allah

It means I have a consciences, a heart not harden enough to turn away from oppression, to speak against the unjust a voice for the voiceless, I concerned myself with the Ummah affairs and for those who don’t they are no one of us, as mention in Hadith by Prophet saw. You wont find me complaining about any of my social woes, compare that to Muslim in distance land’s it’s not an atoms worth
Bitter, Depressed And Angry
I would say compassion is a very important quality for a Muslim to possess.

i get bitter, depressed and angry very quickly.
but i snap out of it just as quickly - often within the hour
lifes too short like noori said
Bitter, Depressed And Angry
agree with noor and muslimsislilsis life is too short to be angry. I admit i do get wound up and get angry. When ive calmed down after a couple of hours i do apolergise. Its not nice to hurt someones feelings esp if they aint done owt and you were just having a bad day and you took it out of them.

Love for your brother what you love for yourself.. 😉
just because a person falters in their ability to "get over it", it would be wrong to turn our back on them.. it is part of our brotherhood/sisterhood in Islam to help, support and comfort each other during times of pain/hardship/difficulty - we've not been set limits on this
were you in their shoes, would you want others to abandon and give up on you?
It is a test and reflection (of their character, patience, strength, iman, etc) as much as it is a test of yours.
Narrated 'Abdullah bin Umar: Allah's Apostle said, "A Muslim is a brother of another Muslim, so he should not oppress him, nor should he hand him over to an oppressor. Whoever fulfilled the needs of his brother, Allah will fulfill his needs; whoever brought his (Muslim) brother out of a discomfort, Allah will bring him out of the discomforts of the Day of Resurrection, and whoever screened a Muslim, Allah will screen him on the Day of Resurrection . i think some people are attention seekers always looking for sympathy
its sometimes best not to give them what they want
for they thrive on pity and sympathy
once people stop pitying them - they'd stop being so bitter and angry

I know teachers who hate kids, nurses who dont do their job properly and Special Needs Assistants who have no patience for Special Needs Children.
And its because their bitter about their workplace.
And as a result they lead a bitter and angry life.
Its a depressing situation to be in.

I'm quite depressed. I'm quite young and I still find it difficult to enjoy life.
I have no friends at school, I spend the whole day doing tasbih under my breath.
And I am quite un-popular. Quite a few girls in my school have tried to go after me and some have even asked me to go out with them :!: .
It is a difficult day and age to live in.
May God help us and grant us with patience.

Every teenager has potential to be bitter and angry.
its that time of the life. Just remember no matter how bad things are, they can always get worse.

 At which point in time you will be promptly forgotten. You don't seriously inflict all this malcontent (I reserve 'anger' for adults) on your wife do you? The poor kid would be driven nuts!

i was thinking more around the ages of 13, 14 and 15. Those are the most difficult years, hormones all over the place, you think the whole world is against you etc. I would say 16 and upwards it gets better.
