hola
this is not meant to offend... but i am confused very much. CNN carries the story of the honor killing of a poor girl in iraq because she fell in love with a boy. there are places in the quran i remember reading which i interpreted in ways that lead me to believe this would not be allowed...
why does islam say that women should be stoned for adultery to restore honor like the girl in iraq when the quran says that women may not be punished without four witnesses who actually saw adultery being committed (4:15) and the quran forbids burying daughters which is basically the same thing (81:8-9)?

It is not allowed in Islam.
Unfortunately there are very bad people out there in the world.
If this story is the one I think you are mentioning, I do need to clarify that the girl was not Muslim, nor were the murderers. They were Yezidites. Pagans who have been influenced by some aspects of Islam - mostly due to being pesent in the same area. (I had not heard of them 'til "The great 100" had brought it up a month or 2 ago...)
Not denying that it happens with Muslims as well, because it does happen and it is shocking. I first came across it on these forums and did not believe such things happened at first. But then whatever is the worst you imagine, there is probably someone who has done it.
I think there is a saying that near the end of times, even the devil will shy away from what people do.
The people who did this should be tried in a court of law. Given a right they denied their victim. and then made to pay for their crimes. Unfortunately that is unlikely to happen (looking at the state of Iraq at the moment, there does not seem to be too much civility left in the civilisation.).
It's just another tragedy.

I finished reading a book about 'honour' last night.
90% of the books on my sisters bookshelf are around the issue of 'honour'..
Its a depressing topic. I think it can even emotionally scare you...even if you have no experience of it.
Honour killings is a cultural thing. Its found in nearly every religion...but I don't believe that any religion condones it. Although, some twisted people do use their religion to try and justify it.
gracias
i thought maybe this was so... i am sorry for confusing muslims with polytheists

If it had not been for "100", who brought it up in another discussion, I myself would not have known.

Four arrested in Iraq 'honor killing'
Nice effort on CCN behalf
The news keeps reinforcing the idea that is a muslim honor killing, when in fact it was a yazidi honor killing ON a muslim girl. Yazidis are not muslims nor a sect of muslims. Though I am very surprised at the retaliation by the kurdish sunnis for this murder, I would love to know their motivation. Are they angry they killed a muslim convert or are they angry one of their kurdish boys is now heart broken.

Yeah... it helps when you provide translations as not every on here can read arabic

Be helpful and look into your Quran and find out what it means
That is your assignment for today
I meant for other people on the board who are not muslims and obviously dont have a Quran...
Back in BLACK
I know what you meant and that is why I said to you, (You being a Muslim) well at least that’s what I’ve been lead to believe, blow the dust from your Quran and read Surah al Imran, and you will find what it means. Then you can fill the void
Besides you didn’t ask nicely enough for me to translate it, now hasten with your assignment

Inna Deen Inda Allah Al Islaam ........
Speaking of children, my notes from what my Ustadah taught me

Al = The prefix `Al' to indicate `The

Inna = Verily; Truly

Inda = (with)
Verily the true religion (Ad Deen) [accepted by] Allah is only Islaam
I don’t need to be guided to Catholicism..........................
Not to be nit picky, but is the translation not:
"Indeed the "deen" closest to Allah (swt) is Islam."
Where "Deen" is more than just "religion" as it is generally translated to.
Saying that, May allah guide us all to the true path and keep us steadfast on it. Islam.
(so, not a disagreement, just erm... addition? I think my erm... linguitic skills have gone all shot.)

These Kurds are horrible murderers. How could they kill their own daughter.

i was reading that in the paper today its absolutely disgusting. The cops didnt even take her seriously when she said her life was in danger (no surprises there).

Can't really blame "The kurds" for that.
Just those that did it.

ignorance is not an excuse
this is interesting , is everyone aware of the rape laws in pakistan?
well pakistani law states that if a women is raped, she needs four witnesses to come forward and say she was raped and if she cant supply these four witnessed that have witnessed the rape she will get arrested for adultery :?
I didnt actually know that. Something new i learnt today. That law is so stupid anybody reading that can automatically pick up on the loophole within the law. How can a rape victim be arrested for adultery when you need four eye witnesses. Most women who get raped in pak probs dont even go to the cops because it will bring shame on the family (this whole cultural thing, really narks me off).

That rule comes from Shariah law, but its misunderstood. On the face of it, it sounds akward, but it doesnt mean exactly what it seems. I was explained this once, but i forgot
The Lover is ever drunk with love;
He is free, he is mad,
He dances with ecstasy and delight.
Caught by our own thoughts,
We worry about every little thing,
But once we get drunk on that love,
Whatever will be, will be.
ɐɥɐɥ
Actually it is totally misinterpreted.
In Islam there is a punishment for rape and also for adultery.
Now for some reason this has been applied in places as when someone claims rape but cannot prove it, they are tried for adultery.

Very good.
I don't think honour killings were ever as big an issue in Iran as other parts of the world. its more common in indo-pak sub. or parts of arab world.
Don't just do something! Stand there.
