Little Mosque on the Prairie
The series focuses on the Muslim population of the fictional rural prairie town of Mercy, the show derives much of its humour from the interactions of the Muslims with the non-Muslim townspeople of Mercy and by the contrast of conservative Islamic views with more liberal interpretations.

"Dexter" A showtime show that was broadcast last year. 12 episodes.
Story is about a serial killer who works in a forensics department. Based on some books, but has goes its own way.

But lets try to stick to the topic pls
Little Mosque on the Prairie
That is a full season and it is rather good. Also the story is more or less self contained. It does not leave on a cliff hanger for next season. Second season has been commissioned.
LHP has potential from the first ep.

I hope this is played on British TV soon. I have seen clips of it. I also read some reviews. We need more programmes like this.
It would be very good for everyone to understand Muslims a bit better.

Little Mosque on the Prairie
I enjoyed it so much that I searched on youtube and have watched about 50 clips of it, and still counting.....
The only person who acts like a proper Muslim I would say is that Pakistani guy Baber.
People have turned the comments section for that show on youtube into a debate, this is what one person had to say relating to another comment someone else made:
what i meant was MOST hadith are WRONG and cause fights between Muslims and SOME are right as u mentioned the namaz ones. One of the biggest Hadith causing argument between Muslims is the Sunni and Shia thing...in my opinion its bull! im not kidding.

... One of the biggest Hadith causing argument between Muslims is the Sunni and Shia thing...in my opinion its bull! im not kidding.

There is no hadith separating Sunni from shia... unless they make one up in the show?
The split happened much later.
Little Mosque on the Prairie
aw come on guys, it's not THAT funny, most of the ok jokes come from baber. to be honest i think muslims/asians are like "wow, a 'muslim' show on mainstream tv" and that's the main reason they're watching it. i don't find it representative of muslim communities in the States either. i mean how many hijabi girls would invite a non-muslim guy for a 'halaal' date to their house, with their parents present?! how idiotic.
Little Mosque on the Prairie
thats the funny thing about it its so wrong it seems funny its jus comic no way on this earth does it represent muslims

You seriously dont get comedy do you?
Little Mosque on the Prairie
There is more than one type of comedy.
Some is derrivative. Some ludicrous. Some clever and witty.
Different people find different types funny.
I for one normally cringe at slapstick. It is just so unfunny.
Little Mosque on the Prairie
HERE is another type of humour in play..

Little Mosque on the Prairie
iv seen about 3 episodes and im not sure its my cup of tea.
its actually just a very old-fashioned conventional comedy with a 'quirky' range of characters with 'humorous' foreign accents. like something from the '70s.
it shows Muslims as constantly squabbling over minor issues, and while this may b reasonably accurate, its a stereotype and surely this should b challenging common images of muslims in the west.
and when u compare it with jewish comedy, especially things like curb you enthusiasm etc., its really quite embarrasing...
hope it gets better once the characters are a bit more settled, cos the 1st series of LOADS of comedies are patchy

Not too bad.
The iRan. 😂

I did get the association of iRack with Iraq,
but hows iRan (and more importantly the trainer) related to Iran?
Little Mosque on the Prairie
you are looking for too much context.
Sometimes what you see is what you get.

you couldn't get more condescending could you? the creator of Little Mosque on the Prairie said she got the idea from a small muslim community she lived in and the issues they faced, i.e. it is meant to be representative. it's fine for Muslims to laugh at the above situation knowing full well that it would never happen, but non-Muslims who have no knowledge of Muslim values will get the wrong idea. it shouldn't claim to be representative of Muslim communities in America.
Little Mosque on the Prairie
I think theres only so many jokes about people thinking all Muslims are terrorists, and even tho some of them were quite (ahem) funny, the show didnt seem to offer anything else, either new or interesting.
Alhamdulillah we now have our 1st Muslim comedy.
Insha'Allah we will soon have our 1st funny Muslim comedy.
Although, there is a hadith that says the Prophet ﷺ walked past a group of the Sahaba who were laughing and joking together and stopped them and said to them "If you knew what I know, you would laugh little and weep much."
ok, watched the first ep. on yootoobe.
