Beware Spammers

And another one bites the dust.

So far today (call it sunday):

1. I deleted about 20 accounts.
2. Deleted 10 spam messages
3. Deleted another message. which came later along with the spam account.
4. Deleted another 10 accounts.
5. Deleted another account set up in the last few minutes.

It's mind numbing.

can u put a thing on so if someone tries to register it send an automatic e-mail to their account that they have to reply to or something, or fill in some letters that are on a picture thingy like on some websites?

yes and yes. I have both a captcha and a confirmation email thingy activated where a link needs to be clicked.

That is why I wanted to move to a different software (Drupal), but do not have the will to make yet another theme.

I can do the technical side, but the idea side etc I am no good at. I need someone who makes a mockup picture with exact elements that I can then code.

Can't use 'Ed as he has no taste. Nor a real understanding of technology. Nor the ability to make a usable mockup.

Try doing that (delete spam and accounts) every single day come rain or shine. It's what I do.

Pretty thankless task because if i do it right, it means no-one will notice.

On the other hand it allows me to keep my status as the lazy person beyond all lazy persons.

As for why spammers do it, its to create link spam. Fool search engines to place pages higher in the rankings. Or to advertise a product.

Sending say a million spam messages is cheap. You just set up a script and then do nothing. from that million or so just imagine 2 people respond. That is 2 potential mugs you have at your disposal.

no i have noticed. A couple of times ive noticed there has been porn on the forum i thought it was just me seein things from lack of sleep lol but when i have revisted the site later it has been removed. So thank you admin much appreciated 😃

Looking at the memberslist page is depressing ("sort by: joined date" and "order: descending").

I created mods to be able to do all the hard work. Only problem that I did not take into account was that on I can delete accounts.

Atleast they keep the site clean during the day (and probably night aswell...)
