they're nothing new this lady has just coined the term burkini to attract attention for her product.these garments have been selling in the middle east for years now and they're not called burkinis over there. Sounds so ridiculous i wouldn't want no association with the bikini. it's hardly a mix ofa bikini and a burka at all. more like a modern salwar kameez with a swimming hat on top.

i think they look hideaous but it's worn for cover not beauty, better muslim women wear them if they insist on going swimming within mixed pools.

theyre also known as sharia swimsuits in turkey, "hashema"

I wouldnt wear it, I agree with Saffy its silly esp the "hijab" bit 😂

One thing does come to mind though, when fabric is soaked with water it clings to the skin, wouldnt that just show the body shape anyway :? hence making it not so modest.

Personally, I wouldn't ever wear something like that. If I had to wear that in order to go swimming, then I'd rather drown lol! That was a joke.
Stuff like that doesn't really make Islam that appealing to anyone, in my opinion.
But, girls are very restricted when it comes to sports, which I think is a bit unfair lol.

i dont see anything wrong with it.. i used to love swimming used to go all the time to ladies sessions

i dont think u can find anything that will not cling to you so this is atleast an alternative for those who do wna swim. its the main reason i stopped swimming and apart from the fact the ladies sessions were at 8.45 am lol too early for meeeee

but i neva thought about CCtv :shock:

I think I would Sis!

A jilbab restricts you quite a bit. I remember the first time I got into my car wearing one, it took me a while to free my legs before I could actually drive, lol. And even then I had to have it hitched up, lol! - practice makes perfect huh.

But seriousely, it's not just the outfits, but the whole modesty issue, everything is so open, ie it's not really realistic to be able to hire out a whole ski resort for example.

Anyway regarding swimmimg - I know lots of brothers who go swimming, but it's always mixed, they don't go to male-only sessions. Surely that's not allowed.

Surely that's not allowed.[/quote]good point. i suppose they make the excuse that as long as they cover from their navel to their knees they're not really doing anything wrong. :roll: speaking of which, one thing that really annoys me about asians is that they make such a big deal about their daughters/sisters dressing up modestly but when summer comes its seen as 'ok' for the guys to go around in shorts which dont even cover their satar properly. ugh. :roll:

I sewed it myself. It was when I first started practicing and I wanted to go to the mosque to listen to a talk. I didn't really know what to expect, it was only confirmed in the morning, so I went and got some material and sewed it in the afternoon. I think I overdid it with the whole loose thing. But seriousely, it took me a while to find my legs.

Hhmmm...I do wonder how they are able to justify themselves voluntarily going to a place where they know there are going to be women wearing next to nothing.

But seriousely, it took me a while to find my legs.[/quote]i made the mistake of trying to sew my own jilbaab too. never again. lol. now i stick to simple alterations. 😉 i'm sure you're much better at it than me though, so if u ever master how best to stitch 'em, plz let me know, i'll be the first to place an order! 🙂 the material often makes a difference too. i reckon the only place that does really nice 'abaya material is dubai. over here everythings coarse, nothing seems soft and silky enuf.
