without pinpointing Britian alone why is paedophilia such a big issue in the west there's got to be a reason behind it. The sexualisation of kids is definately one reason in my mind. There;s also ane excessive amount of sexual material available often without many restrictions in this society. For all the good aspects of freedom we also have to accept the negative consquences of living in such a liberal society.

Britain's biggest teachers union today condemned leading supermarkets for putting "inappropriate" pressure on children to grow up too fast.

The National Union of Teachers said it was "wrong" that Tesco and Asda were targeting youngsters with products including lace lingerie and pole dancing kits.

Anger at 'lenient' rape sentence

Children's charities have reacted with anger after a window cleaner who raped a girl of 10 was jailed for two years. Keith Fenn, 24, will be free in four months after a judge said the girl, who was attacked in Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire, had appeared older.

The charity Kidscape accused Judge Julian Hall of "trying to find excuses" and said a child must never be blamed.

Judge Hall had said that the sentencing had been the most difficult decision he had ever made, but the girl had appeared to be 16.

But he said the girl had dressed provocatively and looked as though she was 16.

'Back to the 1950s'

Dr Michele Elliott, director of Kidscape said the decision had left her "lost for words".

She said: "It takes us back to the 1950s when the victim was blamed if they were dressed provocatively.

"No one in my opinion could mistake a 10-year-old child, even dressed up, for a 16-year-old. They are just trying very hard to find excuses.

"You can never blame a child victim for sexual abuse when excusing the abuser of any kind of abuse."

The NSPCC added: "There is no excuse for having sex with a 10-year-old, no matter how she dresses."

That has to be overturned. Another horrible lesson seems to be that had she been of legal age her (presumably) passive response to the rapists' overtures would have been enough to excuse them. That's if the article is precise when it describes the girl as having been attacked. I also can't imagine what she would have to be wearing for a 10 year old to be considered sexually provocative. People sometimes do dress their kids inappropriately, but they want them to look pretty and cheery and it isn't for the judge to suggest that's any invitation to sexual assault. Horrific.

actually the max sentence you can get is up to life which rarely any rapist will ever get!

Did you know that around 6% of rape cases ends in a conviction, so around 94% of suspected rapists are released.

First reason for it being that it's hard to prove rape if the wife is accusing the husband of rape.

Second reason being that sometimes it's just the word of the woman against the man, and as the jury have to [i]believe[/i] beyond reasonable doubt that the accused did commit rape, otherwise they have to acquit him.

And based on what I've learnt, I thought not knowing the age of the girl was not a defence to rape.

this takes me back to my criminology lectures zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz lol
Really hard to prove rape in marriage because the husband will always argue consent hence the low conviction rate.
Low conviction rates for stranger rape is a result of the defence barristers using tactics such as questioning the victim about their clothing on the night on the alleged rape. Hence discrediting the victim in the eyes of the jury.

I just got back home today and my baby cousin is still staying with us. Unfortunately while I was away she did not help Annette at all, she didn't listen to Annette, she wouldn't call her parents and when my uncle showed up to work out their various issues she spent the entire week with her "boyfriend's" house who is apparently some kind of 18 year old she met in Charleston (she is 14), until Annette had enough and called the police to bring her back. Since then she's been on a shopping spree, and frankly the stuff she is getting I'd be revolted to see on my wife, [i]in private[/i], let alone on my fourteen year old cousin in public.

Needless to say upon learning all of this I expressed my displeasure and have modified her arrangement with us. The "boyfriend" is out of the picture, I burned all of her clothes and told her that she's in extra large Airforce issue sweatpants and sweatshirts for the duration of the summer, which makes sense since she'll be running from 4:00 AM until sundown. I had her father cut off her bank account and she's going to counselling every single weekday.

If this doesn't work I'm sending little miss provocative to live with the Amish - and I'm not joking.

Hardly - I was so furious I couldn't think of anything else. She's all mixed up right now, but I don't have the patience to feel bad for her. As far as I'm concerned I'll get her back on track and then we'll work out the emotional stuff.

You get used to it pretty quickly. I'm at the point now where I'm more like "Kind of Cruel." That said I love my little cousin, she's like a baby sister and she's falling into all the same traps I did. Except in this culture guys can more easily recover from making mistakes, girls rarely get those kinds of second chances.

After her older brother, my very close cousin, was killed she's been withdrawing from almost everything especially her parents so she is staying with us. Unfortunately the lifestyle is a huge adjustment for her at a time she can't handle huge adjustments. She'll come around though, I've got faith in her. She just needs discipline and somebody she can really trust - since it's unavoidable that's going to be a romantic attachment I just hope they are no older than 16 and have something resembling character. I don't have the patience to chase her all around Charleston finding new and inventive ways of destroying various timid teenagers property or persons.

You seem to be one step away from attaching a GPS tracking system on her and tapping her phone.
