Ramadan & the Flu Jab

Salam,

I have a flu jab later today and wanted to know if it would impact on my daily fast? Does it nullify my fast for today at all?

Depends... if you have it whist you're fasting i recon it would be breaking it. However if you have it after you've opened you're fast then theres no harm.

It is before I break my fast.

Why do you think it would be breaking my fast?

Well breaking a fast involves the intake of something before the fast is over. So therefore taking an injection is taking something into you're body... so therefore it counts as breaking the fast(or shud as is my understanding).
Plus theres a chance that you may bleed and this would also constitute the breaking of the fast.

Either wait till after ramadan... or dont fast that day.

Im sure i read it sumwhere on sunnipath that taking an injection doesnt invalidate the fast.

I am not sure.

I would have thought it would.

afterall all we have to do is wait a week and can do it outside the fast.

maybe some injections are allowed (like insulin) if they are necessary to prevent possibly life threatening conditions?

I have answered this question before, regarding Noor's cousin who is diabetic and requires insulin injection (I think).

In the Hanafi school injections do not break the fast.

its dangerous to give islamic rulings according to one's own understanding. makes things a whole lot more complicated.

according to hanafi fiqh taking an injection does not break the fast. and bleeding does not break the fast, it breaks the wudu IF it flows (a spot of blood which doesn't move does not break the wudu either). bleeding in the mouth to the extent that the amount of blood overwhelms the amount of saliva breaks one's fast.
