u dont necessarily have to get a dream as a result of istikhara. u could just 'feel right' about the decision. its a du'a asking Allah to guide you to do what is right, its putting ur trust in Allah and knowing that what u chose as a result of istikhara will be for the best.

I know someone who done an istikhara regarding a rishta and she wasnt sure what to make of the "signs" so she consulted a scholar and he told her she was getin emotional as she had made her mind up already regarding rishta so she was seeing what she wanted to see, if that makes sense.

The Lover is ever drunk with love;
He is free, he is mad,
He dances with ecstasy and delight.
Caught by our own thoughts,
We worry about every little thing,
But once we get drunk on that love,
Whatever will be, will be.

I dont think you guys cought on to what Anatole was saying.
Its not talking about the type of dreams you have when asleep but the dreams to have while your awake... dreams of wanting such a such a thing... dreams of being whatever.
In order for them to come true its not enough to simply dream but to also act to make your dreams come true.

.
I have PLENTY of them dreams...I'm big on high hopes and daydreaming. And I do actively work on making them come true as well...

I think that, sabr, persistant dua's and avoiding haraam can "guide" a person into making right decisions in life.
I've made istakhara's regarding further education and jobs in the past..I never "feel" whats right...I sort of just go with the flow.
If I've made dua for something and its not meant to be, doors get closed in my face, so I take that as a "No"...if that makes sense :?
