Back To School

MuslimSister

Salaam

I start on Monday full time. I’m dreading it. I enrolled yesterday and checked out my timetable…I have a couple of lectures every week that start at 9.00am and I’m so not a morning person….I also have placements scheduled in the month of Ramadan?!!

Cos I was so busy this year, my summer flew by quickly….I don’t feel that I’ve chilled enough.

I feel depressed and lonely at Uni….This year will be so jam packed that I doubt I’ll even manage to spare one day a week in my Mosque….I’m so not looking forward to returning.

Anyone else feeling the back to school blues yet?

Wasalaam

MuslimSister — Mon, 4 Sep 2006 - 21:38

It was my first day back at Uni today….they made me play them lamo “getting to know one another” games. Surprisingly, I had fun and actually made some new friends. Getting up at 7.am was a killer though…

Reg stationary: a writing pad and a pen was more than enough to get me through college and now Uni. …but like exquisite I also like all the pretty highlighters/colourful plastic folders/wallets, I too have loads.

Please don't tell me that they still do that at uni. I'm going to be red as a tomato, I'm very shy when it comes to talking in front of people.

Was it like "my name is....and I chose this course because.....I wanna be a ___ when I grow up"?

I hate it when you have to do stuff like that, its so embarrassing!

Yep, they do make you do that. They made me do that every year at Uni and also throughout college.

Even though I'm used to meeting new people all the time (I did agency work for a year in which I was in a new workplace with new people every day) I cant stand talking about myself....I dunno what happened to me today, but when I was talking and became conscious of all eyes on me….I suddenly became so embarrassed, I pinched my leg (which I usually do when I’m extremely embarrassed), got red and cut myself mid sentence and said “and that’s it really…”

Exquisite — Mon, 4 Sep 2006 - 21:52

i love that sort of thng i like the spotlight but sumtumes i get too carried away n they have to force me to stop, but MuslimBro u dont seem like the shy sort?

Oh god, feel like skipping the first day.
said “and that’s it really…”
I'll remember to use that 10 seconds into my speech.
MuslimBro u dont seem like the shy sort?
I'm cool with people I already know but it's that moment when I'm introducing myself to others when I'm really shy.

oh the good old times lol. I used to buy all that stuff and surprise surprise rarely use it because I found carrying folders a hassle.

M bro - everyone will be feeling like you, trust me. It's annoying but realy it does make u get to know people. The worse thing is when they make you draw stuff and explain what you have drawn and how it relates to you (I am rubbish at art so it's rather embarasin!)

Noor — Mon, 4 Sep 2006 - 22:33

We had to do that today! It wasnt that bad, we had say our name, why we came back to the 6 form and what we wud like to be if we wer an animal.

My form was so crap but i got to move!

So its all good!

yashmaki — Tue, 5 Sep 2006 - 17:03

that game is so rubbish! I'd skip class just not to take part. I hate following the rules when it means i'm making a fool of myself and being pretentious. Most the students are liars anyways, they're just fretting thinking omg it's nearly my turn i've got to pick an animal. So a puny skinny freckle faced shorty will say i want to be a lion so i can be the king of the jungle..yeah right kid keep kidding yourself. (no offence to those with freckles i love them really , they're cute..just making a point lol)

I can't remember what i said but i'm sure i made something up. The most overused, hackneyed, cliched example is "miss i want to be a bird so i can fly free" yeah we all want to be birds go on practise there's the window

Noor — Tue, 5 Sep 2006 - 18:39

LOL

Sis ur so funny 😂

I did that one! I said i want to be a bird so i can fly!

Well that was the only thing that sprang to my mind which didnt sound stupid!

I can't believe that they still play this silly game. (For the people at uni....and you angel) In uni can you say what you have to say sitting in your seat or do you have to walk to the front of the classroom and say it
My form was so crap but i got to move!
Atleast you can do that, I can't. Know some people who are coming to my uni but not doing the same course so guess it can't be that bad.

Well if you're in a lecture then no one realy speaks apart from lecturere unless the lecturer is willing to take Q's, if so you would just ask it from your seat.

If you're in a tutorial and are doing work ie you're asked to gather round in a group or on your own for 15-20min to answer assigned Q's then you would normally speak up whilst sitting in your seat or in some cases a person will be chosen and will stand up and do the talkin on behalf of his/her group.

Then there are presentations in which everyone has to stand in front of the class and do the talk. (the 2 situations above only happen in tutorials/seminars and are normally consisting of 25 students or less)

MuslimBro — Wed, 6 Sep 2006 - 01:01

Thanks angel.

I knew the bit about lectures, I was asking bout when you're in classrooms (tutorials). I think uni is abit like college then, you have individual/group work.

If I get to the know the people in my class quickly then I should have no problem. Hope my class is tiny, the smaller the better.
iv gt w800i n i dnt lyk dat eitha but ma dad forced me 2 keep it,its such a chavvy fone man!
You're picky, I'm thinking of getting that phone, the features are well good.

MuslimSister — Wed, 6 Sep 2006 - 15:05

BTW guys what are you/were you in high school? You know we have those cliques in high school…..were you part of the nerdy/boffin group? The mean girls? The wannabe black people group? The freshie group? The wannabe G’s? The druggies? The arty/farty type? The Goths etc? or some other group…and did any of you have that end of year 11 “most likely to…best couple/most popular” etc assembly?

Beast — Wed, 6 Sep 2006 - 15:22

We used to hang around in one big gang of Pakistani boys which incorporated allsorts.

Noor — Wed, 6 Sep 2006 - 15:26

Yeah we had that assembly, the best dresser, best couple etc etc.

I dnt think i was part of a gang in my school, i kindoff mixd wid every1 and still do.

But ther wer/are alot of them gangs in our skool.

MuslimBro — Wed, 6 Sep 2006 - 19:10

I used to be in the toughest class in the whole year, and school when we were in year 11. Still have the yearbook of all our faces, I look like a right idiot trying to stop smiling.

Can still remember going into the smoke filled toilets at breaktime to look cool 8)

Don't know why we had more fights in Ramadan than in any other month :? ....hunger or boredom maybe

Miss being a teenager 🙁
