I'm Hatin' ItPosted on Monday, May 22, 2006. From a September interview with Rashad Akhtar, a twenty-seven-year-old British Muslim, who alleges that the graphic used on the lid of Burger King ice-cream cones resembles the Arabic spelling of “Allah.” The interview was conducted by Davina Patel, a reporter for the London newspaper Eastern Eye. Burger King apologized and said they would redesign the lid. Originally from Harper's Magazine, March 2006.
The Enlightenment happened at half past 12 a.m. in Burger King, Park Royal. I had ordered my food, and a French guy got talking to me and asked, “Are you Muslim?” He said, “Look at this,” and he showed me the cone. I saw it and I thought, “Wow,” like anyone would. He said, “Turn it around.”
I was thinking of my stomach. I was hungry. I would have loved to eat an ice cream. When I saw it, my mouth fell open. I dropped the ice cream. I canceled my order. That was the defining moment of my life.
The Burger King logo is there in Arabic. “Allah” is spelled exactly how it is there, and the Burger King logo is where the ominah should be. Why, there is no way it could be a coincidence. How can you say it is a spinning swirl? How does it spin on something that is static? You cannot spin it around unless you have a mechanical device. You spin it one direction, to the right, and it is offending a billion people.
I’m not talking about Muslims in the Park Royal vicinity, or in the U.K. I’m talking about globally. Everyone who sees this is going to be offended. If you put a different symbol on there, you’re offending Jews, Christians, Sikhs, or Hindus. I am going to try my best in life, so that these people do not operate in a single Muslim country again, so that we get an apology to every single Muslim on this planet in their language, in their country, on a national TV station: “Sorry. We, as an American company, are sorry. We didn’t mean to offend you.”
What angers me most is that most people, once they have finished with it, they look at it and say, “Nice cone. Nice design. Nice cone design.” They chuck it away. That is disrespectful. Don’t throw it away. Keep it as evidence. A reminder of what these people are doing every single day of our lives.
We showed this to Muslim customers in Burger King and they were disgusted. We went to the manager. “Is this true?” we asked. He said, “Yes, my brother. It is true.” I spoke to two other Pakistani Muslim guys there and they said, “We are sickened.” They were cussing Burger King.
I feel humiliated. I want to humiliate the person who did this to an extent that he never works again. I’m going to make him see that it was the biggest mistake in his life. I want to meet the guy. I want to ask the guy, “What does this mean to you?” then never see his face again.
In a way, I’m glad he did this to me. It has opened my eyes. The fear of God, the love of God, the love of not letting anyone disrespect God. Even though it means nothing to some people and may mean nothing to some Muslims in this country, this is my jihad. I’m not going to rest until I find the person who is responsible. I’m going to bring this country down.

Burger king? The place where the only 'meal' Muslims can eat is the kidney bean burger?
Not too bothered.
And I would love to see a pic to acompany this to see how it works... til then its an unfounded conspiracy theory brought around to try to get Muslims buying Ice cream at BK just to check this out.

You can't escape from DEATH. So be prepared
Isn't this similar to the reversed Coco Cola sign thing?
Well, to be fair, the Burger King one does look a little more plausible than the Coca cola one:

May Allah shine sweet faith upon you this day and times beyond. May your heart be enriched with peace, and may your home be blessed always. Ameen.
And why is it offensive? WIth Nike its understandable, as its on shoes. But here why is it offensive?
Besides how else ywould you sketch an ice cream cone?

all these are everyday useable products once used they are got rid of . i can see why many muslims are affended by this . not only are they using a very high supreame name and what looks to them a catchy symbol on evryday products thy are putting it on products that are usually thrown away in rubbish.
know we don't see a jewish sighn on dasliy useable products if u ask me i think it something more behind this ( notice how most of teh products are american products)., from the pics above we can begin to see a string of product being produced with the name Of our God design into it.
i very pleases the way muslims have reacted to such products when discovered they have teh word of God in printed in it.
A rose protects its beauty with thorns..a woman protects hers with a veil
i'm gona get attacked for this but i don't see the resemblence. i mean sure the symbols look alike but i don't think that was intended, specially the UN symbol looks just like a flame to me.
First thing i thght when i read the thread was muslims are overeacting once again and they're making your average muslim look like a pedantic fool who nitpicks at everything, and takes everything as a personal insult.
The danish cartoons i understand, however these symbols in my mind don't mimic the word Allah at all. BTW i never could understand the controversy over Coca Cola, what is it supposed to read??
yes well most deifnelty when they are using the word of my Lord in such ways as decoration reli for their product its teh biggest insult anyone done to me.
by all means i respect ur views on this topic, bt i do see clearly why muslims hve reacted in such ways.
A rose protects its beauty with thorns..a woman protects hers with a veil
Same here, i don't see any resemblence at all. Usually when something comes up like this, Muslims start overeacting and start causing a scene out of nothing. (The cartoons are a totally differnet issue)
Like the Coca Cola, i don't even still understand whats its meant to read, well i've heard people say its meant to read, There is no God but Allah and Muhammad pbuh is the Messenger, but i can't seem to see it on the rapper thing.
ditto
i dont see it either in the icecrem symbol
muslims are too emotional for their own good

lol
Well if it is as people claim that Allah (swt) has been used (i dont agree) then it can only be a blessing for people to eat ice cream which has Allah (swt) somehow "written" on it.
I just find such things pretty sad really.
Its like when you walk into those Islamic shops and they have huge pictures of a tomato thats been cut and on the inside by random coincidence (or devine fate) you can make out the word Allah.
Its people reading way too much into these things. And even if it does say that why should it bother us? Gods name is written on everything in my opionon so what if we see a few.
As for this advertising; i disagree with the use of the name of our creator being used to sell soft drinks; direspectful imo. But i dont really see it in the flame pic to be honest and prob wouldnt hav spotted it. Besides i dont think the Coca Cola company get their freak-on by delibrately trying to pull the wool over our eyes by hiding the name of God in the advertising.
Nope... i dont see the point....
the wool was pulled over our eyes along time before that.

I studied Arabic.
Le Muhammad, Le makkah (which is the only thing that can be stretched to say. there is no alif after the laam...) means FOR MUHAMMAD (saw), FOR MAKKAH.

then whats the problem?

Asalamalikum,
Its very interesting that that many of you feel happy and many of you feel sad in people using the Almighty's name to sell products on the commercial market. I for one shall not condone nor condemn such a action as Allah swt 'has a right over you as you have a right over Him swt'. Only Allah swt is the Greatest and Most Compassionate, He swt knows better as to what is right and what is not when it comes to those that use His swt name in such a manner.
I shall however, say this: 'do not be blinded not from the eyes but from the heart when from those that use the name of Our Lord to make you come closer to the evil products which in return as used to contribute to the devestation and turmoil in neighbouring countries. For example, the Coca Cola product, owned by GlaxosmithKline has much controversy around it as the the religion truly behind the 9/11 attacks. The idea of seeing the devil by twisting and turning and bending the logo and you get the devil - may or may not be true. The devil does not need to be found on a Coca Cola bottle, but just by looking around in the world. However, such a product like Nike openly discredits Islam when publicising the product in fashion shows. You see Brothers and Sisters both wearing the product without any such care. If you are going to use the name of Our Lord, then use it with care as Allah swt is the Most Merciful but His swt wrath is very swift. Becareful becareful becareful.'
Serphim its not a coincidence that such a miracle happens - its a reminder to those that have forgotten that they are a Muslim not by name but by practice. Its a reminder to those that Allah swt is trying to tell you to take up Islam fully. Serphim, Allah swt looks for a excuse to forgive you, by seeing miracles in this world is proud thing as you feel warmth that Allah swt looks over you and the world - its a substanstiation of the contents of the Qu'ran Allahamdillah!!!!!!
Also, you can't put wool over the eyes of the blind - "the blind lead the blind and they end up in a ditch." This is at present the reflection of the Muslims following their stomaches and their eyes and not seeing the truth for what it really is. The irony being the above quote is from the Bible - not a Book of the Muslims!!! Are we so desparate to achieve and beat one another that we have became like the people of the Bible and the Torah!!!We blame others for the appearance of the world, even though we know very well that we have the power to change everything in the world. - But thats a different issue!
Miracles are a initiation towards hope which is a factor that plays to the mystery that surrounds religion.
May Allah swt forgive me if I am wrong ameen.
Walikumsalaam
“So remind them! You are only a reminder. You are not in control of them” (Qu’ran 8821-22)
I am not a messenger of the people, I am not a keeper of the people, I am a reminder.
exactly my point.
Its all conspiracy theories. Too many muslims put too much credence to cinspiracies these days. You should always use your own brain.
