A Dark Revival

Salaam

I am in a dark mood.

Well not really, but I have been working on a more professional theme for the site, and half way through, its gone a bit well... dark.

And My original plan was to call the theme 'Revival Breeze'!

Can't have a dark breeze so I will have to find a new name. It uses a lot of blue.

I did say I was not gonna show anything til its ready, but I feel like showing off a little (and possibly gauging some reactions - any post not filled with hate will ba taken as approval...)

(I know some people will not be happy about the changes.)

EDIT - just to make you aware, this theme will fit better with the rest of the site eventually. Or rather the rest of the site will fit better with the front page.

I am planning to use a similar header for the forums, but I am not sure wether to change the full theme over or not.

Its a fixed width theme (1024px wide), and I have decided to keep it simple not doing autoresizing etc...

then I must be a geeeeenius!

Muhahahahaaaaa!

Hmmmm..

Well, i wont say genius is the word your looking for..

dont like the menu on the left... its seems a little same old same old.

Cant you do something new with it?

and yeah its a bit blue

Back in BLACK

nice. the subtitles on the left-hand-side could be changed to a diff. colour for less blue.

btw admin do you know how to use flash? i have a friend who studied web design and knows how to use it, i could ask her to have a go with the Revival if you want?

[size=9]I NEVER WORE IT BECAUSE OF THE TALIBAN, MOTHER. I LIKE THE [b]MODESTY[/b] AND [b]PROTECTION[/b] IT AFFORDS ME FROM THE EYES OF MEN.[/size] [url=, X-Men[/url]

I do not want to use flash. Not everyone has it, it will slow people browsers down, and it is not available for all platforms. I didi learn a little flash a while ago, but forgotten it since.

I like the simplicity of the left hand menu. Its pretty striking IMO.

May change the blue titles into some sort of red from the title but it may clash with the blue... (and I think I like that blue...)

Red and blue?? Admin are you going for the Stars and stripes theme again??

Clearly a product of American Influence.

I was think read and yellow, with green blue further to the right,. ehre they are atm.

colours of the rainbow...

mmm let me think....

Its very blue I will give you that... but could be better!

Who is the cat of the Forum? MEZ!
Your damn right!

Yup, its a bit to BLUE, u need to die it down

Well, I have changed the blue slightly (not as dark now), and uploaded it to the main site.

Unfortunately while uploading the files, I am sure I have made two typo's... but my eyes seem too tired to actually find them.

In Firefox and Opera, the homepage looks fine, but there is a gap on the right hand site, which was not there before I starting copying files across.

In Internet explorer, the right column appears at the bottom of the page now, instead of being on the right.

Also on some pages the Magazine bar has a list of the main articles (which are overlapping, so not looking good at all...), but not on others. This error I have no diea about atm.

But overall the change looks good IMO. It will look very professional when the errors have been fixed.

Thoughts?

SHould I go back to old version till I fix the errors, or is this still better than what we had?

I have just reverted to the old theme. Grrrr!

I do not want to ruin the new theme by fully exposing it with its errors.

It serves me right to make changes while uploading the thing, and not keeping tabs on what I changed. No idea what broke it.

WHen fixed, IMO the new (revivalblush as I have named it...) theme will look good AND professional IMO.

Still you can see it in firefox or opera on the [url= page[/url] to see what it looks like in most of its glory.

Opinions on the theme itself? as its virtually complete, I am taking opinions now.

Well after a long time scanning code, I found the main problem.

one extra letter. 'r'.

Insteadf of pushing the update now, I will wait til night again, so that if things go wrong once again, there is no collateral.

Now is the time to speak up.

Is the new blue less daunting? Does the site look professional? Does it look interesting?

If you had never been here before, which theme would you prefer?

As a side note, I talked to the desgn guys, and they are planning on a rebranding exercise before the end of the year, where they want to change the site AND the magazine and give it all a new look, so when we got the last design and someone mentioned we should change the look every few months got it spot on for the short term!

"For too long, we have been a passively tolerant society, saying to our citizens 'as long as you obey the law, we will leave you alone'" - David Cameron, UK Prime Minister. 13 May 2015.

and we are live.

There are still a few issues to be sorted out, but I think its time to make the change.

ok fixed the most visible errors now. (the whole site is now themed, not just the front page.)

I call this a win.

Since making the change, there has not been a single reply.

Either that means I have scared everyone away, or that its not been noticed, or that everyone is in broad agreement.

I'll take it as the latter. a two thumbs up.

(before the last few changes, people did say it was too blue. I toned that down with a less painful blue, but I never got an ansewr to wether it was a bad thing or a good thing...)

personally i liked it as it was before

'voice of muslim youth' looks out of place

dont like the green, change to blue...green looks out of play- like a blue peter job

you've got rid of events and announcemnets from homepage!!!

also need to add multi media section -top 10 - home home page....

page has gone smaller, when we needed more stuff on it... not to take more stuff off

You want more blue?

I like the contrast and the colour clash the green gives.

I got rid of events and announcements. Simply put we have not had an event on there for going on a month. And we had the same announcement for weeks.

Also one other change is instead of having two features articles, and then just a list of loatest, we have one featured article, and one latest article, with the list of latest aswell. This way articles that are added on, but arenot made features are not iognored as they were before. But one thing to remember is to keep only one feature ata a time, as the second one will not show...

Regarding multimedia, it does not fit atm. If I can get it to fit into some sort of structure, I will fit it. Currently it is on other pages though. A nice compromise IMO.

Also the page is wider, and still has heck of a lot of content. Any more may be info overload. Besides who goes all that way down? even the news is IMO overlooked due to being only half the way down!

Ok, just deleted half the forum database.

Before anyone panick, that half contained all the search stuff.

The search option from up above has been removed also.

Trust Google, dudes!

Come on peeps!

I need my ego stroking. (or putting into its place, if you dislike the design)

Just cut and past what I hgave typed below (removing the quote tags obviously to make it seem genuine):

I like the newer blue its alot more subtle.

Altho you could do with merging the top banner and the rest of the page as it kinda sticks out a little.

Other than that good job.

Me not like!

It has too much colour and the logo just looks bland and lame, you have done too much and used too much colour. (sorry no offence but it's rubbish  )

That is ok Angel. The thing about tasyte is everyone's differs.

The only thing I really have an issue with myself is on the top bar, the hint of red we get at the bottom of the blue. It was not supposed to be there, and I cannot see it on my monitor. At work I had a look, and I could see it there, so there is a chance I will tweak the colours.

Also, previously I went for bland schemes, but I thought go for something more flashy.

But to offset I made ample use of grey. I find the grey outstanding.

In order of preference, I like the green, then the grey, then the blue used in the left menu, and then the top revival bar thingy...

Ouch just had a look at my post again, that was blunt and rude, apologies admin. I knw you put work into it and you do it for free, so that was uncalled for.

I'll try givin proper feedback.

yeah the colour is better now, but the logo is floating in the middle of no-where.

I like the colour but something looks out of place- I cant work out what!

Character is like a tree and reputation like its shadow. The shadow is what we think of it; the tree is the real thing.

To be honest that is the kind of feedback I find useful.

Holding your punches will just ignore the issues. Put it bluntly, and let me deal with my feelings.

I can see alot of (well atleast a few...) people do not like the top logo bar. That was the main thing in My eyes. I spent the most time on it. Simple, bright, professional I thought. Seems I may have been a bit wrong...

Sorry Admin..

Again, no need to be sorry.

I should be the sorry one for using y'all as guinea pigs. Sorry I meant lab rats.

honest open feedback is always a must.

Besides I am pretty good at ignoring people. Just ask Ed.
