Integrating into British society

kas

Today Tony Blair said that it is we moderate muslims who have to root out extremism within our midst. Many muslims apparantly don't integrate enough.

I think integrating has limits and we should not cross that limit and go against Islam.
I mean that people should be able to read, write and speak English, they should be working and paying taxes, they should get along with other non muslims etc.

But i feel under no circumstances must we integrate to a level that goes against the teachings of Islam. Such as drinking, going clubbing, freely dating and fornicating, wearing next to nothing revealing youre body etc.

We still have the right to practice our religion and integrate into British society.

What do you guys think?

i think dis is a approprite topic to chat about england whupping pakistan in dat cricket!

we took a 2-0 slapping over da winter and got a deserved gunning in da press, and from pakistan fans for our troubles....

but we showed our bottle when we at home...

current score:

ENGLAND 2
PAKISTAN 0

da heros of da england team in dis seris....da 2 main lions who led us to victory....da 2 who bowled pakistan out and gave us glory were....

Mudhsuden Singh Panesar......

and

Sajid Mahmood.......

u dont have to act like a beer swiggin englishmen to be a brit....just be a good person and treat other as u would have them treat u...

god save da queen etc etc

Try to go to pakistan. If they let you in without a visa, I will allow you your point.

why do we have to prove we're british we do a hell of a lot more than the native brits do as far as integration goes.

Aside from our parents our generation know English, we go to state schools, we interact with all sorts of ppl not just muslims, most of us have non muslim as well as muslim friends. We work alongside non muslims. Many of us choose to wear modest forms of western clothing rather than eastern dress, we eat certain western foods etc etc the list is exhausting.

Can the same be said of native brits? How far do they go to mix with ethnic ppl that's what all these media pundits should be asking, coz i think that's where the problem of alienation lies. I mean it's all very well them claiming we don't integrate but talk is cheap what do they do themselves? i.e in they go to spain on holiday and france and don't even bother to learn how to order a cup of tea/coffee in spanish. They move over to spain seeking a better lifestyle but they make their own british ghettos over there, much like the ones asians have in britain. instead they stick to their own ppl, refuse to learn spanish and open their own fish and chip shops. Is that integration? Talk about hypocrisy.

I'm muslim and i'm british i don't have to prove anything. Why must someone ask me are you british simply coz i don't have white skin?

its true about us english not being interested in other cultures...we always bin like dat...an island race...

i bin spain about 10 times but the only spanish i know is "si" and "una lagar por favor"...

integration doesnt mean assimilation...u right, muslims have integrated into british culture...so have most immigrants groups...

theres a lot more to british culture than pubs and booze lifestyle...

its still a shame when muslim cricketer sajid mahmood gets booed by pakistan fans and is called a "tratior"...

My test of britishness:

What is your favourite cake/biscuit?

If the Answer is Jaffa cakes, you're in.

PS do any of you know the diference between a cake and a biscuit?

I do. and Historically there have even been diferent taxes for each one!

yeah i prefer jaffa cakes over cookies, but i love jammy dodgers, also cake is softer than biscuits

You — Mon, 14 Aug 2006 - 00:25

The diference is when cakes go stale, they become harder. When biscuits go stale then soften.

Some confectionary company even went to court to prove this! (and get a lower tax burden...)

Noor, you have failed the britishness test. The Immigration office will be informed shortly...
