Should Med be unbanned

Been discussing this with 'Ed today. He told me to start a tpoic, and majority decision rules, with comments expected from the majority if not ALL the regulars.

Should be given a final-final post grave chance?

If he is, he will be given strict rules about his conduct, breaking any of which will result in any mod banning him without need to giving me an explanation. There will be no warnings. I will not question my mods.

The rules for him would be:

1. No calling anyone ahlulbiddah, even in the third person.
2. No flirting.
3. No insulting of members, or scholars of any sects.
4. Not to involve himself in topics such as innovation, graveworship etc, or others which will lead in insults.

Rules for other members to follow:

1. No goading.
2. Do not start topics just to get a negative reaction out of Med.
3. No hatred. Simple. I know some people do not like him at all, and vice versa (hint hint 'Ed!), but just pretend its a new member with a clean slate.

So what have the members to say? Add a vote, add a comment, and let me know if there whould be any more rules up there for either side.

If anyone wants to comment anonymously, just PM me, and I will post the view in an impersonal manner.

I've always been of the opinion Med schould be returned subject to Angel's opinion on the matter - he insulted her directly and that's what I understood was the reason for his departure.

Med's a good guy, he was rather uncompromising with what he believes and that's naturally going to mean people get insulted - however I don't think (barring his inexcusable actions against Angel) I can recall a time where he directly intended to flame or insult anyone.

I'm all for his return - if Angel is comfortable with it. Also I think he should apologize to Angel for what he said.

I should have written above that I have already consulted some members who I thought found his posts offensive regarding this subject via PM, and have recieved some responses asking for caveats to make sure he is under control.

i pretty much agree with what Dave said on this one. if Angel doesn't mind and he agrees to following Admin's rules, then i don't see why he should remain banned. but then again i cant imagine him agreeing to those rules.

Got an email from him asking for a last chance a week or so ago.

I need other people's opinions only taking themselves into account.

I have talked (ot tried to in on case, with no reply) to people who found his stuff offensive. I will also take their position very seriously. I need to know what everyone elses is. if noone else was involved.

EDIT: and I am awaiting an 'interesting' reply from 'Ed. 😛 I will enjoy his reply on this topic, which he has assured me he will give.

well i don't have anything personal against Med, just think he could be more polite, so i'm gonna vote 'yes' (for as long as he follows the rules).

I suppose he could (he's done it a few times) but it's impossible to mistake him so we usually catch him and let him go for a few days as a trial...

Has he been banned before?....if he has then don't you think he has blown his last chance.

well if he's actually [i]asked[/i] to be allowed back this time then he must know that he's going to have to abide by certain rules. whereas previously he signed on using a different name but as dave said we caught him out.

People do tend to egg him on though... I think the addition of the new rules for members interacting with Med should help.

That is why I have also put up some basic rules for existing members too!

I think Med should be allowed back, but i think the above rules are a little too much. If you're going to have him back have him back as a if he were a new member. He's had his punishment, done the time, im sure he's sorry and apologised. He's had plenty of time to reflect on what he did and said.

We shouldnt have a seperate set of rules for Med compared to everyone else coz then you're singling him out. He knows what he did wrong, and the reason behind his banning, he doesnt need people over-analysing his every post. Coz then its no fun for him and it certainly wont be fun for the mods to keep editting his posts so that they're within the new rules.

Thats another thing whenever he's on and posts his posts are going to have to be monitored by the mods when they could be doing other things.

Lastly, im sure theres many of us here who break the above rules every now and then yet we are still here. We insult, we irritate, we flirt (ive seen it happen you know who you are) we egg people on. Its not nice but its been known to happen. In Meds case he simply crossed the line with this.

Im sure rehabilitation occurs inside the joint and when they get out they report to a parole officer every week or so to make sure they dont fall back into crime. If you want to do this as his 'trial period' then the mods will have to enforce these rules and not the members. We dont want people reporting every little comment Med may make. This will simply make more work for the Mods as well as Med being treated like a criminal which he is not.

People should know better than to start debates just to get at him, and we dont need new rules to enforce this; thats what the mods are for. Anything the deem to be a useless debate that will only end in insults can be locked.

Again i dont think special rules are necessary nor appropriate to single him out like this.

I don't suppose I should be too bothered but he's been very hateful and I haven't benefitted from any of his cynical pronouncements except to see him there.

people like Med dont change....

he turned this forum in to a sectarian, argumentative, full of hate, created divisions, ridiculed alot of mainstream beliefs, insulted many scholars, insulted many people on this forum....

before med none of this happened, and after Med none of this happened...so why call him back?

Med came on this forum to correct us, guide us etc..... he thinks he is above us, better than us.... people like that are not really what we want on this forum.

He said from day one it is not islamically correct to come on this forum, yet he stayed here fpr months before getting banned.... and lets not forget he did flirt with a specific individual.... do we want someone like that back?

Med may make the forum livlier but at what cost? he is in the same boat as judda and omrow (who should also be banned aswell)...come out with shocking comments, insult and create havoc....

now its up to the people of this forum.... we need majority to say they want him back, otherwise.... its a NO.

Regarding trhe behaviour of others, 'Ed you do realise what our audience is? you cannot alienate the same audience.

Med was a great guy.. He actually raised some interesting issues.. many will disagree with me, but in between the astagfirullah's and bidah's he made sense.

You need diversity imo. I must of been away when he started his flirting :lol:, and also missed his dispute with Angel.. if they we're bad, then we should respect Admins judgement on banning him.

BTW does he want to come back? If he does, then let him. Have a little chat with him, tell him to respect others etc. But you can't set one set of rules for him and another for everyone else.. imo it shouldn't work like that.

His hyper-assertiveness and putting himself on a pedestal-ness was not nice.
I think if he wants to apologise he should e-mail it to Admin or Ed and the can post it up.

However he has asked to come back, so if he was to come back, I wouldn't be annoyed, just wary.

BTW Ed, I believe your comment was Ahlul-Bidah-Fatwa-machine. Whilst I don't agree with the venom in it... 😂 ...in a good way.
