Moody Londoners

Salaam

Are people down South more moody, reserved and less willing to help compared to the people who live up North?

Maybe this is a gross generalisation…but this is what I’ve found…whenever I go up North, on the whole the people I encounter on the Bus, in town, in the Mosques are on the whole a LOT more friendly, warm, nice and smiley..

Like, if I was to visit an Islamic programme in London, you’ll see lots of little groups….and people aren’t that willing to break out of their little group and welcome newcomers….ironically, people in the Mosques up North are a lot warmer than the people down South.

Is there something in the water?

It’s really not unusual down South to quickly walk past- ignoring the one screaming lying on the ground in the street…

This may seem like minor things…but why something as basic as smiling (which is considered Saqda) overlooked by so many….even I’m often told to “Cheer up love” by random strangers on the street.

I do however; often try to catch the eye of Muslim sisters….or just nice ladies and say Salaam or smile at them…I also make my moody sister do the same.

But generally speaking…where did this extreme reserved way of behaving come from?

Is this down to people’s nature? You know how some are extroverts and others are introverts? Or is this down to the culture/norm of our society?

Do you smile at strangers on street?

If you’ve made something special…or it’s a special time of the year, do you send over a plate of food to your neighbours (regardless of their faith?)

Do you give up your seat on trains/buses?

Are you the first to help a stranger in need…or do you wait for someone else to help them out?

Do you strike up conversations with strangers on the bus…or if asked a question, do you continue the conversation?

Do you consider it important to do voluntary community work?

How patient are you as a driver? If a learner is in front of you…do you go crazy and overtake, do you wait patiently if he/she stalls?

Would you describe yourself as a moody, reserved individual or a sociable, friendly guy/girl?

Wasalaam

It may all be about sensitivity.

As an example in Manchester there are hardly any homeless at all. you have to look to find any.

I remember the first time I was in nottinghma city centre, and leeds city centre. I was shocked by the number of beggars.

SO it may be we are just not desensitised to others yet...

lolz londoners n moodiness go hand in hand, nah but on a serious not i know where ur coming from, m n my older sis say to ourselves we are gna hav a smile on our face evrytime we go out but when we do we gt all sorts of comments from ppl, like theres always those sorts of girls wiv attitude whol give major dirty look n ask us if we no dem and theres those who avoid eye contact so we dont have to giv them our salaams, but there are those sisters who wud giv us their salaams too but no matter how much rejection we get from some sisters me n my sis will continue to hav beautiful smiles on our faces :P

in the city centre of manchester i tend to smile at poeple if i catch em startin or they look at me, n i like to give people way round uni, open doors etc,. But when its busy, n theres loadsa people round city centre its hard to notice anythin, its normally jus a blur, n im normally sleep deprived neway, so im a blurry kinda guy Lol

But in Mosques, i normally let on to anyone n evryone, jus last week i met a guy from a different city, n it turned out i knew his friend, who wasnt present ofcourse.

When in city centre, im always going sumwher, bus stop, shop, smwher, but in a mosque, im at my destination, so its time to chill relax n talk to people. unless im in a funny mood, or very tired.

They may live n die n never reach the stars,
but in the darkness of the night, those stars will guide them to their destination.
Becuz they made them in their eyesight

IMO manchester ppl are just as moody as Londoners

but overall Londoners are more reserved-thats cos we're always seeing ppl doing stupid stuff in the street

so we used to studipity

yep its something in the water

London is easily the best place in Britian.

No where else can compare.

It is a myth that Londoners are unfriendly.

I think the rest of the country is jealous of the diversity of the Londoners.

Long live London!!

Lol

anyway i love london, so i dnt mean to offend londoners but i do think the north are a lot friendlier. i think in london ppl are just too darn busy to be friendly and warm. like for example i never heard customers say plz and thank u when they go to a store. its always rush in rush out. it seems ill mannered but i think its just "so little time, so much to do"

smile and be happy!!!

Oldham the best, simple as

Too true.

We are honest people and when we call it a s**thole, we say it with sincerity!

LOL

nationalism eh Wink

lol

Yeah I'm a London nationalist.... Biggrin

We should declare an independant state and charge northeners to come into the country.

or better yet... have borders to stop londonners spoiling the rest of the country!

We don't spoil it, we give it life.

They should be no jealousy.

When London sneezes the north catches a cold.

Lol Dirol

yeah you lot keep us deseased.

Just imagine if there was no london to sneeze, the north would not have a cold!

Yeah, but you would be very bored.

Without vibrant London to emulate, the north would be a dull place.

As the say in London, "we keep u on ur toes".

London is a backstabbing city.

When manchester bid for the olympics (for 1996 and again for 2000 I think), guess which city stabbed them in the back?

good thing we are not moody people up here, otherwise we should have tried to get our own back in the run up to the selection for 2012.

aah well, atleast we had a successful commonwealth games a few years ago.

and then you go in and nick the metrolink extention. what for? a monorail! a MONORAIL!

The world (well.. the north of england Blum 3 ) would be a better place without london.

I hereby forward the motion that london be thrown into the sea.

All in favour?

(London is a city. Nothing more really. Probably because of it transport system everybody is in a rush... that is what I think anyway...)

It should be made treason to insult London.

C’mon Admin, do really think the worlds finest athletes want to go to an Olympics in a drizzily, drab city like Manchester?

You might as well hold it in Belgrade. Lol

You northerners need us. How else would you stay cool?

"He who is tired of London is tired of life"

We have communities from every part of the world in London. It is impossible to be lonely in such a fantastic city; no matter where you are from you will find a warm welcome in the People's Republic of London.

Now Olympics in Belgrade... that is genius!

Just imagine minefield hurdles! fail to make it, and boom!

(what? they do not have minefields there? easy they got years to install them!)

Or maybe the 100 metres sniper gauntlet?

Bosnia would win Gold. Smile

lol...We had the Olympics in Sarajevo in Bosnia once.

No joke. Ok it was the winter Olympics but that still counts.

yup it counts.

one thng ppl that suggests london is the better city

WE ARE THE CAPITAL CITY

we must be for some reason which is that we are the best

London's a very, very fast city...there's a lot of things to do/see here. I do love my city.

London has better job opportunities compared to the rest of England. It also has better weather compared to up north

On the downside, London is extremely overpriced, people can be unfriendly and the water isnt all that.

Home is where the heart is. So if you live in London, up north or whereever you're naturally gona extol it's virtues even if it has none.

I live in Warwickshire. I'm so used to the peace, and relatively slow pace of life. So you can understand my dislike for big cities, where ppl have no time for no one, time equals money. It's not just London but the bigger the city the greater the lack of manners, rush, pollution etc. But obviously large cities have their good points too. Lots of jobs, resources, shopping centres, swanky apartments, a diverse population etc etc. I guess it depends on what you like, or what you're used to.

Me,I prefer the quiet life. I like to be able to hear the birds in the morning. See fields in front of me, rather than roads. Have beautiful things to look at, i'm sick of seeing dirty grey buidlings with graffitti. Houses built on top of one another. Streets fulla filth. Coffee shops and students every which way. Billboards on every corner. Not my idea of comfort living. But some folks like that. Depends what you like really.

A city like London is one i like to visit but i could never see myself living there. I could see myself living in the lake district, Dorset, Devon, rural areas i just adore them Biggrin I love the British Country side, can't you tell Wink

you should work for the tourist board lol - you do a splendid job!

and whats wrong with students eh! :o
