i recall dusty saying it aint actually a hadith

i think its more of a proverb, but dont quote me - no idea!

The Lover is ever drunk with love;
He is free, he is mad,
He dances with ecstasy and delight.

Caught by our own thoughts,
We worry about every little thing,
But once we get drunk on that love,
Whatever will be, will be.

Some say this hadith is weak…I don’t know the reference to it, but it’s very profound.

Many of our pious predecessors used to travel to different countries on horseback just to listen a hadith.

and they would also do full wudhu when narrating hadiths and observe it with the utmost respect

like we gotta in Uloom-Ul-Hadith classes!

its a mawdoo' (fabricated) hadith, apparently the most famous one too. Sad people find it difficult to accept that a 'good' or 'profound' saying (such as this) was not said by the Prophet, but not all fabricated hadith ascribed negative things to the Prophet (s.a.w), some people also ascribed 'positive' proverbs to the Prophet (s.a.w). no matter what their intentions were, falsely ascribing something to the Prophet (s.a.w) is a big sin. we should all be careful and meticulous with references of ahadith before quoting them.

Quote:
Sahih Bukhari, Volume 2, Book 23, Number 378:
Narrated Al-Mughira:

I heard the Prophet saying, "Ascribing false things to me is not like ascribing false things to anyone else. Whosoever tells a lie against me intentionally then surely let him occupy his seat in Hell-Fire."
