what do you think of dogs?
i think islamically your not suppose to keep dogs, but having a guard dog is acceptable?
I've got two dogs a dobermann and an american red nose pitbull, has anyone else got dogs?
i have been told when a dog howls its not a good sign but haven't been told why its not a good sign does anyone know?
respect , dogs are wicked
i have the biggest meanest rottweiler
you have a doberman , how does it survive in the winter?
pitbull? wicked dogs but arent they illegal, where did you get one , i want one?
yeh dogs are acceptable as guard dogs or herding or any other purpose but they are pleat and not allowed in houses cause angels will go away,
elders always say that aswell , its bad luck when a dog howls , maybe its a paki thing
i've got a BIG shed whats made just for dogs its really good and i've put alot of hay in there for the dobermann and the red nose has got a big warm basket so their alright. the red nose is illegal to keep but she's a beauty so i thought i'd keep her anyway, i got her from down south near dorset. my cousin wants to breed her when she's abit older with his rednose so il save you a pup
sam
wow that is so cool! (tho both those dogs are pretty scary to non-owners) have u had dogs as pets ever since u were a kid? and how come ur parents dont mind? btw i'm pretty sure there's no islamic basis for the dog's howl being bad luck or whatever...
and we have another thread on this... i'll find it.

The thing about dogs is that once they are domesticated they cannot go wild.
If they are abandoned, they will die.
Domesticated cats will go wild.
Besides dogs are not that clean. Their saliva cannot be on your body or clothes.
You are diverging the nature of a dog by domesticating it. Its tantamount to cruelty.
"For too long, we have been a passively tolerant society, saying to our citizens 'as long as you obey the law, we will leave you alone'" - David Cameron, UK Prime Minister. 13 May 2015.
admin you sound like an animal activists, are you vegetarian
Dogs are not wild animals , they cannot survive in the wild for a reason, like sheep, cows, chicken ect , cannot survive in the wild,
agree dogs are not clean, thats why we cant keep them in the house, but which animal is clean, they are animals at the end of the day
we are not domesticating dogs, they have already been domesticated , they seek human companionship, if we let them lose in the wild they will all die -and that is cruelty
.although i dont think the figure is that high theres alot of truth to it , this always amuses me, because in pakistan people love dogs and animals, but when pakistanis are born here they some how develop a strange phobia of dogs - wimps -
dogs are naturally wild animals.
however they can be domesticated.
I aint no vegetarian or vegan.
However I do object to unnecessary cruelty.

please do
i once had a staffordshire bull-terrier , but it was a poor substitute for a pitball, too small and too playful - kids loved it though
What do you think a rottweiler and pitbull mix would be like
no admin your wrong there not naturally wild animals, if so which country are there in?
ive never seen the habitat of a wild rottweiler?
or the habitat of the wild british bull dog?
, what is their food source or animals of prey?
maybe you are getting confused with the African wild dog, that is naturally a wild animal , but its not possible to domesticate them
like its not possible to domesticate a lion
lions can be semi-domesticated.
They only eat when hungry. and that is every few days. But they like to hunt. They are part of the feline family, and can always return to nature.
You do not get 'wild' dogs here because they are taken away. Wild Dogs are not allowed. They will either be killed or captured by the authorities.

I agree with Admin they are, the damn dog that stays next door to me is a huge alsation and is ready to jump at anyone - that stupid dog has made me scared of DOGS fullstop. I try not to show my fear but my experience fails me.
lol but ur point only proves that domesticated dogs are already wild.
admin, 'domesticated' dogs have been bred from their 'wild' ancestors to be that way. just like leopards were crossed with domestic cats to make the domestic 'bengal cat'. fully domesticated cats i.e. those which are not let out of the house, will also not survive if u release them outside. they will catch an infection and die, thats if they dont get killed by other animals (or cars :?) first.
its cruel to release an already domesticated breed of animals into the wild to fend for themselves. ur point only makes sense if you're saying they shouldn't have been bred with the intention of domestication in the first place.

so sam and raf, its good to actually have some dog-owners on the forum, gives a new perspective, and i always had some questions for dog-owners:
- do u guys put muzzles on your dogs when u take them out for a walk? if not, why?
- what do your immediate and extended family make of it?
- what made u get dogs as pets? i.e. raf u mentioned not all pakis are afraid of dogs - but ur obviously the minority, so what made u guys go against the grain?

i put a muzzle on my dog and it hated it, it would rub agaisnt hedges, wack its head agaisnt anything, so i dont anymore, i just take it out at night when no one is around, or really early in quite placesextended family -i dont know - i guess it can be iritating because i have a big garden , that we cant use to chill in with my extended family, my imediate family like it, it keeps the burglars away
-i live in a big house in a not so good area, my neighbours been burgured, cars have been robbed, but my house never been effected- mashallah, if anyone comes anywhere near my house my dog goes mad
ive always been facinated by animals , animals are a wonderful example of allahs creation, and animals tend to like me, ill keep a lion if i could, but i dont understand why people fear dogs, there wicked animals, they very useful, kids love them, they listen to u and are extremly loyal
although I might be the minority(paki owning a dog), its abnormal to be scared of dogs unless there big scary dogs that you dont own, so you should ask people why there afraid of dogs?
As far as medical, food etc they can cost more than a human being to maintain. It's strange that keeping domesticated pets like cats, dogs and birds is a phenomenon in the west mainly, although it has spread to other parts of the world it seems to be focused in the west.
I find it totally disgusting and ironic that we are willing to pay millions of pounds into the pet industry just to home a kitten or a dog, or a blimin gold fish, when millions of kids and adults are dying out there from poverty and basic malnutrition. When a human being leaves his/her entire inheritance to a dog that has got to say something about the lowly state we human beings have reached. Have we lost our marbles. Are humans now lower down in the food chain than animals?
In my mothers house we used to have cats but we no longer do we simply can't afford them. Back then i never thght of the ethical nature of keeping pets, but my views have changed. I don't see the need to keep pets in the home. They were not made to live in homes made of bricks and mortar. The sad fact is humans domesticated them because they were in need of companionship, and of course it's a billion dollar industry, money always talks.
p.s i've always been disgusted with zoos. Breeding animals in captivity for release into the wild is a commendable thing. But keeping a large animal such as a beautiful lion locked up in a cage just to make a few bob is never justified.
i admit i adore cats, and i like certain breeds of dogs but that doesn't mean i'd keep them as pets.
nothing wrong with keeping dogs for gaurding but yes its wrong to keep them just as pets The Messenger of Allah said,
“If someone keeps a dog neither for guarding, livestock, nor for hunting, his good deeds will be decreased by two Qiraats a day.” [Al-Bukharee Vol.7, #391]
The above mentioned hadeeth prohibits the keeping of dogs as pets due to the associated consequence, i.e. a person’s good deeds being decreased by two Qiraats a day - a Qiraat is the size of a huge mountain.
The Prophet Mohammed (pbuh) had a tabby cat which fell asleep on the sleeve of his robe. Rather than disturb the cat, he cut off his sleeve when he answered the muezzin (call to prayer). This cat once warned Mohammed (pbuh) of danger and to this day tabby cats have the 'M' mark on the foreheads in remembrance of his blessing and three dark lines on their backs where he stroked his cat.Islam legend tells us that Mohammed(pbuh) loved cats. It is said that the reason he loved cats so much is that one once saved his life when a snake crawled into his sleeve. (This may be a variation of the well-known Muezza story.) Legend also claims that Mohammed(pbuh) bestowed on cats the ability to always land on their feet. A writing of Mohammed (pbuh)tells about his vision of a woman punished in Hell for starving her cat to death. These stories have all come down to the assumption that the "M" symbolizes the enormous esteem which Mohammed (pbuh)felt for cats and that the sight of the "M" on a cat's forehead invokes memories of Mohammed(pbuh). In any case, cats today are still generally protected and respected in the Islamic world, and are even permitted inside mosques.
ive always loved cats and owned cats aswell as dogs
“The companions of the cave having a dog is mentioned in the Quran, therefore it is permissible.”
Allah said,
“And you would have thought them awake, while they were asleep. And We turned them on their right and on their left sides, and their dog stretching forth his two forelegs at the entrance [of the Cave or in the space near to the entrance of the Cave (as a guard at the gate)]. Had you looked at them, you would certainly have turned back from them in flight, and would certainly have been filled with awe of them.” [The Noble Quraan 18:18]

I had a cat when i was younger, it died or ran off lol either one. there nice to keep don't get me wrong but there wasn't much you could wi it apart from stroke it. so after a few years i decided i wanted a dog and then bought my dobermann (snoop) he's 5 years old now and is getting old so a few months ago i bought the rednose.
parents at first weren't too happy with the idea of the dog but it grew on them and now they love the dogs.
extended family are scared of the dogs lol they are pakistanis so we'll let them off!
sam
i've never put put a muzzle on the dobermann, i don't know why.
i have only taken the rednose to the park once because she's not really ready for walks so i just let her open in the yard. she might need a muzzle when she's bit older cause they're vicious dogs and when they bite their jaws lock so you have to chove something up their bum
sam
I had heard that cats will start to hunt again.Actually i have heard stories about this, where people movedhouse, went back say a year later and the cat was still alive. Its nails were not as well done... as it was hunting for food.
I do not think dogs should have been bred for the purposes of domestication in the first place.
"For too long, we have been a passively tolerant society, saying to our citizens 'as long as you obey the law, we will leave you alone'" - David Cameron, UK Prime Minister. 13 May 2015.
lol yup, thats coz 'domesticated' cats still hunt - for mice, not humans. but a kitten who has never been given the chance to hunt because its owners are too scared of him/her getting lost/run over outside the [clean, mouse-free] house is not likely to suddenly develop the skill if released into the world when its much older.
ah well u should have said that then. but it still doesnt stand, considering that even Islamically, we are allowed to tame such animals to keep them for the purposes of shepherding, guarding, etc.

arent dobermans a fairly dangerous breed?
lol yea pitbulls are really vicious (there must be a reason y they're illegal). u must b pretty gutsy to keep one. how can u take it out for walks - if the cops see it wont u be in trouble? (i think u should deffo go with the muzzle either way).
ur the psychologist - if you get a dog into the habit of wearing a muzzle from when its a puppy, will it mind as much as if u suddenly put it on when its all grown up?
thats pretty considerate of u to take ur dog out when few ppl are likely to be around... but not all dog-owners are like that. the reason i asked u guys if u put muzzles on ur dogs is because i think dog-owners seriously need to be more considerate to their fellow humans. You can expect your dogs to be loyal to you and you're not scared of them, but everyone else isn't gonna feel so safe.

Dogs were made for bitches.
Omrow
your intellectaul wit never ceases to amaze , your a real comedian
ive never known of puppy sized muzzles , besides i did not know my dog would hate muzzles and my dog is 7 yrs old , i wasnt a psychologist then i was in school , good idea though i will try it for my next dog
]i think no dog really likes muzzles, so i can see why owners will be reluctant to put it on dogs, also its a myth that all dogs are vicous, i own a rottweiler its the only dog that ive had that requires a muzzle and its the duty of all owners to put muzzles o dogs in which they know are vicous, i used to normally have german shepards it was freindly outside just vicous at home, dogs are very territorial they only vicous in their property, as long as you dont pose a threat to them , they wont attack you in the streets, theres only a hanful of vicous dog breeds the majority are very tame
dobermans are vicous, when i was 7 i went pakistan , even though everyone told me dont go next door there dog (doberman)is vicous and has bitten a burglars fingers off, when no one was around i couldnt help myself i went to stroke it, and yes it attacked me  , although surprisingly it never bit me although it ripped off the top part of my salwar
