Printer Advice

You

Salaam.

My printer needs some ink.

Simple you think? just buy some ink?

Well... the ink will cost around £50.00.

Its a lexmark. Their ink is really expensive, plus they do not allowe third parties to supply ink.

And it does not work with linux.

Now I think its good to get az new printer.

I remember Epsons being rather good a few years ago, but my experiance with HP is rather good. And they are quiet.

So... I have seen two HP's that fit the bill:

for £100

or

for £85

Anyone got one or the other? I would not mind a first hand opinion...

and yes They are both Multifunctions. I prefer them, as I need the space saving...

One other thing does anyone with HP printers know wether they do OCR recognition out of the box?

how do you know?

I do not think I can.... as an example It took me around three weeks to get the manager to print something out which was actually a part of work...

Admin i would have gone with the Epson as they print just as good as the HP but are also cheaper and the Ink is cheaper too. But if you really have your heart set on an HP than go for it.

Isnt possible to get the lexmark re-fills? Rather than having to fork out for a new one? Ive got a cannon at the moment, and the Ink cartridge is around £30.00, but i just get them re-filled for £12.00.

But like Hayder said, id just use the one at work. Not that they could stop me hahahahahahaha.

We have a laser printer...hp Laserjet 1010.

The ink last for ages...and its useful for us because all of us on a weekly basis print out reports/projects and pages of lectures typed up in size 25 font.

Our ink has just recently finished as well..apparently you can't change the ink with this printer and will have to buy a new printer..?

Get an Epson Admin.

I got an Epson Stylus cx3200.

Multifunction etc, Never tried OCR, never had a reason to do so. But OCR is normally software relevent, if you got good ocr software, scanner shouldnt make a hugh difference, altho some are specialised.

With Epson, I got my ink cartridges from phoenix direct .co.uk or summin like that., cheap as hell ink cartridges

Epson-wise the RX520 is supposed to be pretty good... but it has drawbacks compared with the HP's.

I have no idea at their linux support either as a quick google did not produce anything. That may be a good thing, saying noone has had problems, or it may be bad...

I recommend HP deskjet 5550 Printer, you can purchase the printer from eBay ranging from 20-50- And Black ink cost 13 pounds and colour is around 20 pounds.

I’ve hot this printer myself and the quality is excellent and the printing economy is superb.

I’ve never like Lexmark- had a Lexmark Z25 bundled in with an old PC.
