According to a quick dictionary and thesaurus check, a two faced person is someone who is “hypocritical, insincere, deceitful, cheat, traitor” etc etc…pretty harsh definitions.
In what situations do you put up a front? When do you act differently to who/what you really are?
This forum is a classic example of people acting differently to what they’re like in real life.
In real life I can at times be just as immature as my younger sister…even though I keep up a “serious” image here….I’m also less tolerant - I become moody and irritable when my extending family gangs up on me and/or teases me……In real life I would never participate in a discussion, I’m more of a listener and I’m a lot less confident in my views.
Does anyone else have a different side to them in real life?
Another example that I can think off is when one is in the presence of both parents and in someone else’s house…
Job interviews and also rishta meetings are also classic examples of people only showing and bigging up their good side.
It’s kinda scary at times how we can never be sure what a person is really like….even Islamically, it is said that you can only truly know someone if you’ve lived with them for three days and three nights.
So, how can we really know who/what someone is like? Isn’t it correct to say that this forum gives people confidence?
Why is it is that some of us can say things behind a screen that we could never dream of saying face to face?
And is this necessarily a bad thing?
Do you consider your self two faced in certain situations?
This thread isn’t as coherent as it should be…but if you understand what I’m trying to say then share your thoughts please…

This reminds me of something Admin mentioned about not trusting people on the forum. They are not what they seem.
After having thought about it, i believe it is indeed correct.
I dont know what people think of me as a forum member, but i am quite different myself in real life.
I am two-faced. I am hypocritical....in real life/forum BUT i'd show myself a better person on the forum.
People in real life fail to see the bad in me, no-joke they think i'm very rare to find. If i mention my bad they would never believe i could do such thing. I think its because for some people like me portraying the good image over the normal comes naturally.
Tiz very bad. I am such a bad act & that is the truth.

no naj you must believe what ple say they cant all be wrong so if you think you are not what they say whats stopping you fulfilling their prophesy? only more good can come of it

yeah but i think ppl behave different online coz they have no inhibitions. There are no barriers really, ppl can if they choose reinvent themselves, even pretend they're the opposite gender.
Most ppl are more confident online than they would otherwise be, as Muslimsister mentioned. I'm the same in that sense. Normally i'd be reluctant to speak in a seminar. At uni i'd only speak in a seminar if the teacher picked on me. I know what i believe in, i am headstrong. So i wouldn't tell person a these are my thghts and tell person b a different story.
I've often been told i'm too frank and honest for my own good. ppl take advantage of individuals like me, but i can't pretend to be someone i'm not.
However i don't think that's being two faced, ppl behave differently in differnt situations. There's a time and place for everything. If you go for an interview you won't speak as you do say with your mates. You'd have better manners, least i hope you guys do. That's not a bad thing, it's a good trait.
In my mind two faced ppl are those that are vindictive, and can harm you. Unfortunately they're usually friends, or so called. Sweet as pie to your face, once you turn away they're back chatting about you. Or to mummy and daddy they're the most pious girl. At uni dating, clubbing, short skirts. Mummy and daddy always raving about their daughter. other parents like mine always saying why aren't you like that girl she's so good. me sitting there thinking you don't know how lucky you are to have me loool

+1 to what Yashmaki said. No barriers on the internet. People know more about how I think on these forums than anyone in real life.
I have a habit or portraying myself in a negative fashion.
I think its because I hate myself to some degree. I do not car eif people talk bad about me, but am really uncomfortable when they make me out as a knight in shining armour...
I am very two faced. This stemmed from when I was so naive I would believe anything. So I got myself a neutral face, and would not commit to anything til the last second. Now this is nature. I can lie without batting an eyelid. This is really bad. and noone can tell. At times I myself have formed an opinion because of a lie I told myself!
So I think everyone should be truthful to themselves at the least. After that human politics comes into play.
This reminds me of a hadith. A sahaabi went to the Prophet ﷺ and said he was a hypocrite. He gave the reason that when with the Prophet ﷺ he was a very motivated muslim, but when away his motivation waned. He was told that he was created a man and not an angel. [no reference as it is off the top of my head]

It really depend on what is consider two faced. Am i the same person as i am on the forum as in real life? It really depend, because i not the same type of person for 24 hours in a day, it all depend on the situation and the people that i am with. In some situation i will hardly ever speak and keep myself to myself, while when i am with people i am comfortable with, i am much more open and chill with. To be honest it rare to find someone with the one characteristic and too be honest when you do, they normally are weird.
On the forum I do act more confident, but to be honest, i think nearly everyone is, as the situation allows you to be. That why it is dangerous making assumption on a person completely from a forum, because normally the forum only allows for people to show one side of the character. But i wouldn't consider anyone two faced because of it.

ur a weird man Mr Admin
but i think u come across pretty fair in this forum
and regarding "being goody two shoes" in front of parents
whats wrong with that?
e.g some guys smoke weed/fags
but outta respect they'd never touch such stuff in front of parents
thats a good thing

You know, its so weird that in front of the world most of us put on our best face…but its usually in front of family that we put on our worst face, and they still love us despite all our flaws..
Outside the home, I’m mature, responsible, organised, I regularly teach kids and in the working world act very professional…and inside the home I can act like a big baby. I’m 21 years old but if dad says something that upsets me I can easily spend the night sobbing in my pillar and won’t stop crying unless one of my parents comes in my room and consoles me. :?
In real life I’m very, very mature and tolerant…at home I can fight over the remote, computer or last packet of crisp with my brother and sisters….and strongly dislike being teased or ganged up against by family.
In real life, I very rarely ask others for anything…I strongly hate the thought of someone else being inconvenienced because of me. I have to be very desperate to ask another to do something for me…yet at home, it’s not unusual to see me asking my darling sister to get me milk or iron my clothes.
Our family are the only ones who are aware of our many flaws and can still love us conditionally.
No wonder Islamically it is said that if you REALLY want to know what someone is like, you need to live with them for three days.

So true...
Its funny how when the phone rings and one answers it one starts sounding all sweet and innocent, OR when people come down one acts proper decent and stops being SO kiddie-fyde.
My sis whos always arguing its funny how her voice changes when she answes the phone...we take the mick-outta her. Normally i act like a baby with my nephew in the house and as soon as someone comes in i start acting proper decent and mature. And i mostly see that wiv alot of ppl.

lol.
A mixture of maturity and childishness is best. Sometimes it is time to be serious and grown up and at others acting babyish and obstinate is cutyfyed.

cuty-fyde and childishness just wiv family ..
i wasnt normally bothered if i act like a baby with my nephew in front of anyone until one of my mums mates gave me a few weird looks when i was 'kuchy kuchy cooing' my nephew.
So that made me stop acting childish in front of others grrr.

I dont think i am two-faced, if i dont like someone i dont hesitate to show it, be it through my tone of language/facial expression or even my words. That may seem really nasty but i have grudges with hardly anyone unless someone is mean to me then i cant pretend that i like them.
On the forum i am pretty much myself apart from being a little shy in reality only if the person i am talkin to is a stranger.
As for job interviews i always have a fake confidence, pretend i am THE person for the job and give it my best go. Is that being two-faced :?

nah
everyone sells themselves at job interviews
and in the working world-most people dont really act the way they are anyway
immature ppl can easily put a professional act on

Gheebah or backbiting means speaking about a Muslim in his absence and saying things that he would not like to have spread around or mentioned.
Allah says: “And do not backbite one another. Would one of you like to eat the flesh of his dead brother? You would hate it. And fear Allah. Truly Allah is oft relenting, most merciful.” [Surah al-Isra’: 36]

i dont like to be 2 faced and it takes a great effort to put an 'act' on but i have been warned that if in some situations i dont do this then the consequences are not going to be good ie i must be polite to elders and family when i really want to swear and shout at them and walk out.
so to get on with people you dont like yes you have to be 2 faced but i prefer it wasnt so and yet I pray each time that i can pull it off.
and of course we wear different faces for different situations such as job interviews etc its acceptable acting i think in these cases.
in the case of the forum honestly i would say much more face to face and regret much more too no doubt but here i do check to an extent what i say. on here i keep myself timid and tied up and only let loose when i really cant stop myself
