I was sitting on the bus with this lady I know who is registered blind…there’s a certain way to deal with people who are registered blind…there are many important do’s and don’ts that one HAS to be familiar with...and you can only know such stuff if you’ve personally associated with people who are visually impaired.
Anyway, another lady who was blind got on the bus with her guide dog…I was SO impressed with the quiet nature of the dog and how perfectly it guided her…he even knew when they reached her stop!
My mum is registered blind. Once in an interview in some radio station she was asked why she didn’t she have a guide dog…she goes “Why do I need a dog when I have four children”? :?
I know what she meant though…she has US to take her everywhere. However, not everyone is that fortunate….without help some visually impaired people are left housebound.
Islamically it’s sinful to acquire a dog for other than hunting, guarding, shepherding purposes….and only the saliva of the dog is considered impure not the fur etc. So Muslims shouldn’t “hate” or “kill” dogs….as some advocate.
I heard of an incident when a blind man wanted to pray in the Mosque with his guide dog….they didn’t let the dog in the Mosque because it was considered unclean however no one else offered to hold the man’s hand and guide him into the Mosque either…
Ideally an Islamic society is build on family relations and ties….so in an Islamic society a blind Muslim should not be in the need of a dog for guidance as the family is supposed to take care of him/her…and if a person does not have any family it should be the duty of a Muslim brother or sister to assist the blind person in need….but what if no alternative is available?
…From what I’ve seen guide dogs are extremely well trained quiet dogs…their tongue doesn’t hang out dripping with Saliva…they don’t lick people….so if a Muslim doesn’t have ANY alternative (i.e. doesn’t have anyone to take him/her to hospital appointments etc)…then can a dog be there for him/her in time of need?
ALSO, what’s with this hate/kill dog mentality?
Please discuss….
Wasalaam
The thing about dogs is once domesticated, they will not go wild. They will just die.
This is diferent from cats, which will, if abandoned, start hunting again.
So I think the muslim position may relate to this natural situation.
The saliva of a dog is impure... that is because it is a carnivore. Can dogs live off veg's? (if a cat eatz through unting, its saliva is also impure...)
One other thing is 99.9% of all Pakistani's (especially me) are absolutely petrified of dogs.

Dogs are great!
I used to have one and would go hunting with it on Sundays

Paradise is not for dogs.
Yet Muslims do believe that dogs will go to Paradise.
Omrow
I have no ... fear of dogs.... on the other hand i also dont hav much love for them either. Im indifferent to them. Never had a dog... brother was chased by one when he was younger.... well funny... he ran around screaming: "mmmooooommmiiiieeeeeeee" lol
My advice... show no fear to a dog ... for some reason that works.

In around july/august time on my way home from work, there was this slightly drunk guy with a dog.
He started having a go at me. He was older, stronger than me. However all I was worried about was the dog. I had made the calculations and was not willing to respond as long as the dog was facing me. I managed to turn the dog around by clever manouvers, but when it was time to react tothe abuse my bus turned up.
Probably lucky me. A few days later I went looking for the guy hoping he would be without his dog (on my own... I am not into all this getting oher involved). It was stupid and I never found him.
Lucky me again as he was easily stronger.
To the point, I am scared of dogs. even poodles.

lol why?
Ive personally never understood this. We ,as humans, are bigger, stronger, smarter, faster... not to mention the fact that humans are the dominant species on earth... and not canine.

I dunno.
Its just something that has always been the case. As far as I am aware, most people of pakistani origin are the same. There a few rare exceptions.

LOL in that case im a rare exception aswell....i think it looks rather pathetic when someone runs a mile upon seeing a dog hehehe no offense...atleast they could pretend to be brave lol.
as for guide dogs i believe its jaiz to keep them as such highley trained animals are essential for the independance of a disabled person...although its not permissable to keep a dog in the house but i believe for safety reasons it is permitted.
I think so too…cos in too many cases Muslim people are housebound due to that fact that they have no one to dependent on.
It shouldn’t come to this…but if it does that I too see nothing wrong with having a guide dog.

this ingrained fear of dogs is silly and often dangerous - ppl who run from dogs are more likely to get chased because the dogs think you're playing with them. if u just walk past calmly, or stand calmly, it'll pass by.
a family-friend's 17 yr old nephew died when he was on a school hiking trip in Wales - the group were high up on some cliff when a man and his dog came around the corner. this kid was scared of dogs and turned to run, but he lost his footing and fell...
ppl seriously need to get rid of this fear... its not natural, kids are not naturally scared of dogs, until their parents tell them not to go near them - the fear of dogs is passed on from parents to children. my lil cousin got bitten by a dog when she was 2 years old, but she still luvs em, and tells that story with great relish.

It depends on the dog - I had a lab which is pretty much the most friendly creature on earth next to giant squids.
It's activities included romping, chasing small woodland animals, and meeting new people.
However a pit bull or something along those lines i'd never trust.
not to mention they are ugly and unsanitary.
Agreed.
Apparently as a toddler/child I used to talk to dogs and try to hug them and my dad used to be yelling at me from a distance telling me to get away....just cos he was scared of them, he made me scared of them too.
Ever since then I've kept my distance from dogs...now I'm indifferent to dogs. I only keep away from the big, ugly ones or the ones who have a tendency to jump on people.
lol talk to them?
Dr Dolittle style.

when i was a toddler i somehow happened to sit on a dog LOL...
maybe thats why i dont fear them ..
i really like dogs - i wish they had the same status as cats in our religion. they are faithful and loving - most of them
I'm not scared of dogs.
I just don't want them touching me.
Dogs are permitted for shepherding, for guarding and by the same token there is nothing wrong in keeping a dog for disabled persons. This is from the ni'mah of ALLAH.
I dont like dogs. I can act brave infront of them and walk past without changing direction or anything sometimes but inside I keep wondering if the dog is following me and I imagine that I just felt it brush my leg or something.
Also I dont like even my clothing to brush a dog for fear of it becoming impure - yes I know the saliva and wetness of dog is impure but why take the risk?
White people I think are aware of paki behaviour and I have noticed lil grannys walking with their dogs move em to the side when pakis come by. And ALWAYZ they say "it wont bite ya".
Back home in our village every house has a dog to guard the land around the house. I had to keep a stick with me in the village to beat the dogs away cos they are vicious.
Ya ALLAH Madad.

Lol-Yes.
But daddy always dragged me away from them.
lol what did you talk about with them?
I can't remember...but one home video shows me doing "baby talk" with them.
But yeah..dogs fascinated me as a child.
lol and i'm sure you fascinated dogs.
"What's it saying?"
"I dunno... pretend to be interested maybe it will feed us"
i HATE dogs
we have history
now i probably wont run a mile when i see one with a 100 mile radius, but nonethless i dont like them
urggh

dogs are faithful and loving. they really are a mans best friend - i'd love a yorkshire terrier they're so cute
lol its not all that strange ya know! most kids do go and hug dogs and talk to em, its cute... and yea, labradors are sooo cute and friendly. i came across a vicious poodle once tho... depends on the dog and its owner i guess.
and i wud b lying if i said pit bulls and rottweilers dont scare me, i just (calmly ) cross the road when i see one. the owners shud use a muzzle when they take their dogs out for a walk - this makes life easier for everyone around, and i'm fairly sure its not painful or anything for the dog.
but all puppies are cute, regardless! some family members in India have had an alsation for as long as i can remember, she's a guard dog, and amazingly loyal. i remember going to their place when i was kid, and she'd just given birth - those little alsation puppies were soooo cute! but i couldnt play with them properly coz they hadnt had their vaccinations.

In our city some of the rude boys have dogs for fighting and stuff.
I dont like dogs and make scowling faces when I see them walking past.
