The Revival Newsblog
Salaam
I am currently hacking away on a newsblog for the website.
http://www.therevival.co.uk/newsblog/
It should be ready now.
I have also added a page in the 'Rules/FAQ' section to discuss the Newsblog:
http://www.therevival.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1267
What has been done:
1. Wordpress has been given a template which looks almost identical the website.
2. The search on the left hand side, if used within the blog will search the blog instead of the whole site through google.
3. Commenting has been disabled.
4.The menu's do now work properly.
5. Add it onto homepage.
Current problems/TODO:
1. The blog has a separate login from the forums. I have looked into this alot, and it will probably be kept separate. will probably not do
2. Probably a whole lot more that I have not thought of yet.
Questions
1. Should comments be allowed? [current decision = no]
2. Any other features that are needed?
The blog is in working order now.
y have we got an MPAC article on the newsblog... :?
I was just about to say that.
MPAC are too fiery and up themselves to constitute a good news source.

I wasn't about to say that!
What's wrong with them? Apart from the fact that they Ikhwani.
I've used them before. Come to think of it... you changed that post!

MPAC do have good articles, but they cant be put on a newsblog which we claim is a filter for articles from mainstream news sources or whatever it was that admin had put up in the intro to the newsblog before... which is also y we shouldnt really b quoting IslamOnline - not exactly a 'mainstream' news source and its not as if u cant get a similar article from one of our regular news sites (BBC, Independent, Guardian etc.) and which post are u saying i edited?
oh and admin, the links on the newsblog for 'next page' and 'previous page' are no longer working...
The Revival Newsblog
beast, do u want to take the Salahuddin Ayyubi and Khalid ibn Waleed articles off coz i think Ed did not want them on the website yet... :?:
The Revival Newsblog
You changed the IslamExpo post by putiing an Independent article in place of a IslamOnline one.
But I disagree about using only 'mainstream' news sources. Take the Danish cartoons story, we could have had stuff about that up on the blog a long time before now if we'd used sites like IslamOnline.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the NewsBlog is about news relevant to Muslim youth. The mainstrean news orgs don't always pick up on stories which Muslim youth would be interested in. That's why looking a little further afield is all good IMO.

I was thinking Admin would have taken 'em off already.
Just can't get he staff...

oh yea lol, re: IslamExpo - i mean we might aswell put on the articles from proper newspapers if they're available there right...
and thats not true Irf, (about the Danish news story coming up later on mainstream websites) - i read of it first on the BBC. any major news stories that happen to be of interest to the Muslim youth are likely to be on mainstream websites too...
also, i dont agree with posting up news which is ONLY to do with muslims and 'islamic stuff'. :?

We all seem to have forgotten about the NewsBlog. 🙁
I'm not mentioning this because I have remembered it and will try to post on it more often. No.
I won't be posting (much) on it, and the forum, in the next few weeks.
This is just to tell those with access to the blog to keep it up-to-date.

The Revival Newsblog
Good Luck beast.
And thanks for keeping the newsblog updated so far.
I have been trying to figure out the homepage leaving little time to concentrate on that atm... but I will kep it alive.
oh and there are some people registered who need their posts approved before they appear.
Some of you have 'editor' acounts that can approve additions...
The Revival Newsblog
hey admin do u think we should allow comments for a while and see how it goes? they could be an indication as to how many ppl are interested in it...
The Revival Newsblog
I have re-activated the commenting code.
I did get some 'pings' on previous additions to the news, but i do not know how they work... so i just ognored them...
To allow comments on a topic, just click on edit, and under comments click allow comments.

hey look, admin agrees with me:
Just anything interesting you come across... It does not have to be about muslims. It could even be somehign affecting britain, the world, that has an interest factor...
so dunno y he took the whale story off, it happened to have a big 'interest factor'... 😂
The Revival Newsblog
and this is not the national enquirer...
gutter stories should remain with the gutter press.
I did say some topics are not gonna be covered. (Like sports, and dying whales.)
The Revival Newsblog
and allow comments in new stories only. The current ones are stale...
The Revival Newsblog
and allow comments in new stories only. The current ones are stale...
ok. i just added the Abu Hamza article... and i was thinking of allowing comments for the Hamas and cartoon ones too?
The Revival Newsblog
I have made a slight change to your posted news. (No need to have as a 'news' category, aswell as a subcategory of news... I just made it uk...)
Should anyone be allowed to comment?
I have also allowed comments on the Abu Hamza article. (you forgot to click comments allowed...)
I think we need a new Palestine one... there was an interview today about what hamas will want... and also another on how they have backed an independent candidate to become PM...
and there are also further articles on how they may not actually hold power, but delegate it to autocrats... Need to find a good all encompassing one on this topic.

lol, actually i literally meant i had 'added' the Abu Hamza article to the newsblog, not yet enabled comments, was gonna do that this morning but thanx.
yea anyone should b allowed to comment IMO, wadya mean, is it just members who are able to comment and not guests? :|
and ur right, we do need a fresh Palestine article, i'll have a look around and get one on there later today inshaAllah...
The Revival Newsblog
was looking for a Hamas article and look wot i came across:

I agree in this case, that Muslim authorities should be consulted and an arrangement reached. Only if it is the case that the Muslim authorities prove hostile or attempt to extort money would I say that the museum is justified in disregarding their concerns, and in that case ought to let us know what transpires, but the concerns on the face of it look perfectly genuine.
Today Israel asked India to liaise with Hamas, and the EU asked Iran to stop funding Palestinian terrorism. Meanwhile in Jericho Abu Mazen released 26 Islamic Jihad operatives and another 30 convicted terrorists, Fatah operatives kidnapped an Egyptian ambassador, this morning Palestinians spent two hours fruitlessly flinging grenades at the Erez crossing, later two Palestinians attempted to plant a bomb on the Erez crossing and were shot dead. Hamas is firing Qassam missiles daily now, yesterday they hit a kibbutz and a power station, today missiles landed harmlessly in the Negev desert. Also yesterday Palestinians in Hebron stormed the International Observers' building ostensibly over the Danish cartoons, forcing them to leave. I'm sure they were just distraught. Hamas' Mahmoud al Zahar wrote "Israel is an illegal entity, and no amount of pressure can force us to recognize its right to exist... the western countries can take their aid and go to hell.” Since you were looking for news on Hamas.
Arab Muslims have a history of being highly disrespectful to other religions' sacred places. Now I think Israel should not sink to that level, and should force the museum to consult with Muslims.

Anyone can comment. I realised the stuopidity of only allowing members to comments immediately. (members are chosen... they have been hand selected...)

I have made the Israel piece as the feature... the side effect is its on the homepage twice... once as feature, and another time as news.
Its something I need to fix...
