Fantasy Island (HP and LotR)

*DUST* โ€”

it seems that unfortunately the last Potter thread could not withstand the dark forces that wiped clear the entire forum soon after it was created...

so here we are again...

has anyone seen the new movie? i've heard a lot about it, need to go see it still.

edit: we started discussing LotR here too...

EDIT: Hedwig lol looks like sum1 is getin into the theme of HP

yuit โ€” Thu, 24 Nov 2005 - 11:59

I think the books are rubbish, and yes I have never read any of them, but it just seem like a stupid book. That my final analysis on the subject ๐Ÿ˜‚

But saying that, who watches Lost here, the show that come on Wednesday on Channel 4, it is by far the best show ever, it the only think I watch on TV.

lol might aswell, til i've seen the movie ๐Ÿ˜‰

r u an avid reader? like irf was saying he doesnt read much fiction... if u read fantasy, or fiction in general, then u can tell tht HP books are well-written and gripping. seriously, i cant put it down once i start reading it!

and the reason its so big is coz it pulls in readers of ALL ages. my mum couldnt understand wot i was going on about, till i pointed out a man to her, on the plane, who was about 50yrs old and reading the Prisoner of Azkaban!! ๐Ÿ˜‚

btw, how cool is my avatar?! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

I will take the Lost post too the No topic thread, don't know why, Flower only lives 30 seconds away from me.

LOL wel atleast tht proves my point about it pulling in ppl of all ages! ๐Ÿ™‚

ok, since ur a fantasy fan, lets discuss y u didnt think HP was good... (judging it on its own merit, not as compared to CS Lewis or Tolkein)

laila โ€” Thu, 24 Nov 2005 - 15:00

no it was good and i would think its brilliant was i 12 years old. i felt i was being dragged into an all too familiar world of my pre teens and felt too safe there and i wanted a bit more edge

it was like i had to remember and fall in love with a whole new bunch of characters. yeah perhaps if i wasnt so much into fantasy and scifi then like my older friends i would find Harry Potter amazing can you see where i'm coming from?

its not that the books arnt very good its more of well more of the same perhaps i've done overkill on the witches magic fantasy and my tastes have changed

ok so you leave me alone - had i not read every kids fantasy going then yes Harry Potter would be riveting to me now, so this is really to do with me rather then the brilliance of the books

i've come full circle i know!

LOL so u dont agree with angel after all... ๐Ÿ˜‰

*DUST* โ€” Thu, 24 Nov 2005 - 15:05

Why not, i enjoy it and it will keep me entertain for hours, plus it relatively cheap compared too all the Harry Potter books, video, cinema ticket and ofcourse as you a addict I sure you have the wall paper, mugs and the whole deal that come with it. But saying that I probably get my mate to download it from me from the internet.
o-k. i think u guys hav misunderstood me somewhere along the line... so lemme just clarify: i do NOT hav an addiction to ANY Potter merchandise, i just read the books and watch the movies. in fact, lemme shock u:

i own just 2 of the books, ONE of which i bought myself!

and i watched TWO of the movies at home, off crap quality CDs!!!

so as u can c, i really dont invest anything other than a few hours once in a while on HP.
laila โ€” Thu, 24 Nov 2005 - 15:15

yeah well i'm sadder then u i have to love a thing and spend 24/7 with it to say that i love it ๐Ÿ˜‚

like lord of the rings well now i can enthuse about the movies and how perfect they are for hours - few hours! whats that all about that wont even touch my addiction ๐Ÿ˜‚

Seraphim โ€” Thu, 24 Nov 2005 - 18:51

okay i admit it... i fobbed it off.

Didnt go to watch Goblet of Fire...

Told my nephew 'not after what happened last time'

So he can go winge at his father.

Ive not been too impressed with the films mostly coz they leave some bits out which annoy me so ive decided not to watch it and nor do i hav any plans to do so.

Bsides didnt really like Goblet of Fire much.

Dawud โ€” Thu, 24 Nov 2005 - 20:27

Read them. They're good, maybe very good. BUT quite frankly they're nothing on What David Gemmel writes.

And may I re-recomend 'Drinking midnight winter' or whatever its called, be vigilant though...

I got a question to ask too all those Harry potter fans out there. What is so good about the book? Why is there a unhealthy interest from the older generation in a kids book? This whole situation has passed me by, because i can't understand how my stupid 6 year cousin loves Harry Potter and a perfectly intelligent person like Aasiyah does as well. :?:
