Looking for Comedy in the Muslim World

Seraphim

A film about how the US Government assigns comedian Albert Brooks to find out what makes the Muslim People laugh in an attempt to better understand them.

Which raises an interesting point my brother pointed out; why are all molvi's always so serious? We have no comedy to speak of. I dont know how true that is, but off hand i cant name a Muslim Comedian. But i dont necessarily believe or wish to believe that its possible to be religious and have a decent sense of humour.

But if i think about it, i cant also name any occurance or mention of comedy in regads to Islam... so what is the Islamic view on Comedy?

Is it something frowned upon to be religious and funny? Or is it a good thing that you can be religious but also have a sense of humour about it.

Is it possible to be funny without having to curse or resort to taking the mick out of Islam?

Thats a very crude definition of comedy.

Peter Ustinov once said "Comedy is simply a funny way of being serious"

i refuse to believe its not possible to be funny without being rude.

ofcourse yo can be funny without being crude.

but it hardly ever is laugh out loud funny.

If I asked you to tell me a joke that is neither offensise, nor rude, and is laugh out loud funny, you would probably struggle.

Only bcoz im not a comedian by trade.

comedy can be laugh out loud funny, bcoz some of the best comedy is about being honest and truthful about situations that are told in a funny mannor. So if you just stick to clean topics i see no reason for it to get rude.

Can anyone name a muslim comedian?

Holy Prophet ﷺ would joke, but they were clean jokes which didn't contain anything which offended the others etc. And so did the companions. And I have recently been in the company of one of the renowned scholars of Islamic world, and he loves to joke and create a happy mood, again they are clean jokes.

They are not one liners, but a twist of the current situation. spntaneous.

I class the two diferently myself. One can be easily used on a stage (hence by a comedian), the other is used in real life (and cannot be adequately adapted by a comedian)

The thing is in humour I am slightly hamstrung. I do not find stupidity funny. Some others do.

So maybe that is the diference.

Or I may be over analysing as usual...

[Edit]

I may aswell point out that at times I do like acting stupid... But generally stupidity is not funny.
