Family guilty of 'honour killing'
A father and his two sons have been found guilty of murdering his daughter's boyfriend in an "honour killing" after she became pregnant.
Arash Ghorbani-Zarin, 19, was found stabbed 46 times in a car in Rosehill, Oxford, on 20 November last year.
The Iranian Muslim had been studying at Oxford Brookes University.
Chomir Ali, 44, was found guilty of ordering sons Mohammed Mujibar Rahman, 19, and Mamnoor Rahman, 16, to kill Mr Ghorbani-Zarin, at Oxford Crown Court.
During the trial, the court heard the two sons killed Mr Ghorbani-Zarin due to the "shame and dishonour" brought on the family by his relationship with Manna Begum.
The pair met in 2003 through school friends, who described them as devoted to each other, with Miss Begum becoming pregnant in August 2004.
But Miss Begum's father, a Bangladeshi-born waiter, had planned for her to have an arranged marriage.
Her brother, Mujibar Rahman, was also furious at his sister's "blatant" defiance and had previously slapped her for refusing to end the relationship.
After the killing, the DNA of Mamnoor Rahman was found on a knife.
The Rahman brothers' blood-stained clothing was also found in a plastic bag, which street sweepers saw being thrown into an Oxford allotment by their father, three days after the murder.
In summing up the trial, which lasted four weeks, Mr Justice Gross said the Western-style relationship caused a "battle of wills" in Miss Begum's family, as she resisted pressure to conform.
Det Ch Insp Steve Tolmie, of Thames Valley Police, said the murder was "a horrific, violent attack on an innocent young man with a lot to live for.
"No-one has the right to take away someone's life for whatever reason and people who choose to do this will be punished, as shown today."

Asalamualaikum!
I believe that no one has a rite to take anyone's life no matter how bad they are or which ever country they live in,theres no excuse.
Everyone has a rite to live, even the bad pple as Allah (swt) is the one n only punisher.
Its been sed many times "Killing one person is like uve killed the whole Ummah"
"Duniya toh badalti rehti hai...Ey mere Quaid tuh kabhi Na badal janaa"
i blame the daddy
if he wasnt so crazy she wouldnt have gone running into someone elses arms
killing is wrong.
he should have disowned his daughter if he felt so strongly.
You know.. tell her to leave, and end with the line: 'You are dead to me! understand? dead! dee eee aiiii deee, DEAD!

...It shouldnt have to come to this.
Girls and boys shouldn’t act like lovesick Romeo’s and Juliet’s…and parents shouldn’t be so unreasonable either.
In such situation, one has to bend (i.e. give in). Either the child or the parents…
When neither side refuses to bend, tragedies such as this one often occur.
Wasalaam
Frankly I would not be willing to bend for a murderous family. What a bunch of ignorant Bar stewards. I don't apologise for the use of such language.
not all of us like having to read swears, some are still fasting- NewModOnTheBlock
How would you know that they are capable of murder?
I have no issue with bending (giving in). I can't see myself ever kicking up a fuss for anyone.
Muslim Sister,
Then the world goes like that, and your life belongs to the hardest man. I wouldn't stand for it. Intimidation is VILE. Let alone murder.
this is a tragic story
but there are faults on all sides
the father is most at fault obviously and i agree with admin that he should have disowned his daughter, know he will have to live with the guilt of destroying his sons life and being a murderer
the daughter should have known the concequences and should have followed islam and left her boyfreind, know she will have to live with the guilt of her family in jail and boyfreind dead
her boyfreind should have also have known the concequences of messing with a muslim girl, and how much honour and pride was as stake, his death was his own doing
the sons commited the greates sin of murder, but i feel for them the most, they were only young and felt they must obey their father and protect their honour, know there lives are ruined, may allah give them strength and forgive their sins
on the whole people should not be ignorant and follow culture, but follow islam and the rules of islam
omrow dont make generalisations
The girl has done nothing wrong.
im guessing you dont know anything about islam
its a sin to have boyfreinds
and a grave sin to have sex before marriage
and muslim girls are not allowed to marry non-muslims
as well as comitting these sins she must have known the consequences that resulted in her boyfreinds murder and family jailed all this would have been avoided if she did not sin
im not only blaming her , many are to blame mostly the father

Carrying a bastard child.
Even Bible forbids women from doing that one.
I think this carries a death penaltly in the Old Testament.
Omrow
She did nothing wrong. If you have a religious judgement on her choices, well, I have a religious judgement on many people's choices, but punishment would be beyond the pale. Omrow, I appreciate your point. That there are problems with tolerance in any dogmatic community, but we do not enforce those particular punishments, and we could not enforce any punishment outside the rule of a court. Moreover, the law of the country is paramount except where it forbids personal duties. Are such extrajudicial killings a personal duty in Islam?
This girl did nothing wrong. Her family is totally dysfunctional.
Salam
That is exactly whart Islam teaches. Prophet Muhammad ordered his followers to respect and obey the legislation of the nations in which they reside.
And no, Islam does not allow any sentence to be carried out on any criminal outside an established court of law.
Only a Qazi ( a Judge ) is permitted to try the suspect and sentence him or her.
Omrow
Neatly put.
we cannot punish for the crime, as its not a crime in uk law. the only punishment that is allowed is which is permissible within the legal framework.
That is why I said if the father felt strongly, he should have disowned her.
If he did not feel that strongly, he should have atleast brought her up in a better way.
And she did do something wrong. Just not illegal in the uk.

Your a very clever girl MS, no one can deny that. But this point of yours makes you seem weak. For the last three years I've been fighting with my parents for the right to marry my man, and this is a battle I will never stop fighting for.
And the comments in this thread make me sick. You can't help who you fall for. Some people lack sympthy for others and they have the nerve to call themselves Muslims.
Its true u cant help who u fall in love with but there is a right way to go about marrying that person, as for fallin in love with a non-muslim one knows the consequences beforehand so they shouldnt get themselves into a situation where they will get close to that person....love at first sorry but i dont buy it!
In this situation they were both Muslims, but from different orgins. In my love story we're also both Muslims. But I'm bengali and my man is Pakistani. Some people turn Islam into a racist religion.
Like i said if the two go the right way about it then its all good but its hard getin narrow minded cultural parents to see it that way...its a shame that in these situations one cannot come to a compromise.
If she had fallen for her man, she should have married him. Not just fooled around.
You seem to be going about it the right way.

Maybe she didn't marry him because her parents did not approve. That's why I'm still not married to my man yet. But I'm getting desperate now. I've told him that if by the end of this year nothing happens, we'll just elope.
well, tell your family that.
Blackmail them.
Tell them to think of their honour. what would be worse? you getting married, or you running away?
There is an art of persuasion. It normally involves blackmail. Use it.
I do not agree with your comment that it was because they may have disproved. There is always a way. If she stated the facts, I am sure they would rather she married than she fornicated.

You can't talk until you've been there. How do you know she didnt state the facts? I've been banging on and on about the facts and threatening my parents for three bloody years now, and still they don't agree. If I do decide to run away it'll only be because they drove me away.
what made you state this?... :?
I received nothing I wanted
I received everything I needed.
My Prayer has been answered.
You cant just run off and elope, you will need your family...havin you parents blessing is like a must.....get sum1 esle involved and get them to explain it, if you have older sisters/brothers/cousins use them to get them to talk to your parents.
I'VE TRIED ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING. YOU NAME IT I'VE TRIED IT!!!
Ramz from your situation, I must say that there are two possibilities:
1. They have someone else lined up for you. Here you must find out who that is, and reject the person, and/or get that person to reject you as a suitable partner.
2. They do not think you are strong enough to go through with your threat. here you have to show your strength. Talk to your father (not your mother). and klay down your terms, with a time limit. keep hounding.
