Personally, as I stated b4, I think u shud marry hiim. He obviously seems to be a good person and he wants marriage not another thing.
totally agree. these days it is difficult to find someone decent and sincere. but only marry him if you really want to, and you can see yourself happy with him

there is such a thing as being just mates.trust me but u hav got to have the respect factor between yourselves....D
there's no such thing

fizzy1 — Thu, 27 Oct 2005 - 14:31

its true, you can be just friends. i know girls who will NEVER meet a guy while on their own. there is sooo much respect for them. they call each other brother and sister and would never cross the boundaries.

lol i have heard many stories bout "brothers" and "sisters" there aint no such thing, yeh you can be friends at first but then it just turns into somethin more than friendship, which is why Islam forbids a male/female to be together if they aint married...so how do these "brothers" and "sisters" become friends without meetin? talkin over the fone? same thing applies, you cannot talk alone, satan is the third party ALWAYS!

fizzy1 — Thu, 27 Oct 2005 - 14:58

i meant they meet in groups. no chance of bad behaviour when others are there to keep them in check

MuslimSister — Thu, 27 Oct 2005 - 17:09

Salaam

I think one has to define “friend” first…

To me, a friend is someone that you tell your secrets to….someone who you share your personal problems with…someone who you spend hours talking to on the phone….someone who you regularly link up for shopping/eating out…someone whose house you visit.

It would not be right to do all of the above with a member of the opposite sex.

An “acquaintance” is someone that you have to talk to cos of work/school etc….someone that you may say Salaam to in a crowd….there’s nothing wrong with keeping acquaintances.

Wasalaam

Salma — Thu, 27 Oct 2005 - 17:16

there's no way off letting someone know unless you just tell them straight up

in the long term, can be a pretty disastorous result and end up losing a very good friend (talking from experience)

the only hints a guy understands are ones with a sledgehammer, and even then you never though whether they've actually got the message!

being mates with guyz can be very hard work!

Naz — Thu, 27 Oct 2005 - 18:51

i have to agree wiv muslimsister there are sum things you just cant talk to a guy about no matter how close a mate they are.

Salma — Thu, 27 Oct 2005 - 19:23
i have to agree wiv muslimsister there are sum things you just cant talk to a guy about no matter how close a mate they are.
kind of disagree with you there

in some cases i'd be much more comfortable chatting to a guy about some things

girls can sometimes be very bitchy (not all), but from past experiences, confinding in a guy is easier, you can be 90% sure he aint going to pass it on and if he's got something to say about it, he'll be blunt and truthful (not always a good thing) not pretend he agrees with you

im not slagging all girls off here, its just a personal opinion

fizzy1 — Thu, 27 Oct 2005 - 19:32

i have to agree with you.

boys do tend to be blunt. which is a good thing i may add!

but there are some things i could only say to my female friends. but i would feel they would judge me more. i think boys are less judgemental about some things

girls may be more bitchier then guys

but the chances of a girl falling in love with you are very very slim

same cant be said about guys

maybe thats tru-

the door is always open to "fall in love"

i ve seen it happen with too many "brothers and sisters"

liberty4women — Mon, 31 Oct 2005 - 15:59

lol i understand what your saying but if ur strong enuf to keep the friendship at the brother/sister level then things wont go wrong...am not saying never becuz things may happen....but if u no hes just a brother and nothing else then no problem...... 😃

Sirus — Mon, 31 Oct 2005 - 16:02

liberty........thats wat they all think initially, and then next thing u knw - dilemna

prevention is better than cure

Salma — Mon, 31 Oct 2005 - 16:34

quite undecided on this topic

although im about 75% sure guys n gals can't be mates

one of them always ends up fallin for the other

girls have alot more self restraint then guys 😃

(sorry guys but itz got to be said)

keep to a hi- bye basis wiv em, better safe then sorry

For once im in agreement.

Guys and girls as friends... its a BIG no no.

I would much prefer to class such relationships as acquaintances...

but remember people...the most important rule...

No matter what you do...

Never feed Gizmo after mid-night or give it water to drink.

lol, no what i meant was such relationships only lead to one thing... well unless... nope sorry thought i had something then for a second.

I have such "sisters" but i've never taken their number and i've never freely socialised with them. Other than that, treat them like a sister is fine.

flower — Mon, 31 Oct 2005 - 19:03

I dont think a guy and a girl can be just mates......theres only two types of relationships between a guy and a girl, one is the brother/sister relationship (which obviously can not lead to anything else) and one is the boyfreind/girlfreind or rather husband/wife relationship

even if initially the boy and girl see each other as freinds later their feelings will develop (its only natural) so no a guy and a girl cannot be just freinds for too long

Ramz — Mon, 31 Oct 2005 - 19:34

my man started of as my best mate. I've known him since I was a little girl. Three years ago I saw him in a different way. I think sometimes girls and boys can be mates and sometimes they cant.

its just... that... i dont think....

RAMZ NO!

Pls refer to The Revival Issue no2 Comic Strip.

Girls & Guys cant be mates becoz its not our natural disposition... as much as we'd like to believe in this... we have to eventually give in to the plain truth which is... we are made human... thus prone to emotions and other illogical things (unlike Vulcans).

what does Ramz know

she fell in love with her best mate

so she aint in a position to state that girls and boys can just be mates

i know

it does actually sort of contradict what she is saying

doesn't her realtionship prove girls and guyz can't be mates?

yep it sure does, the fact that they were best "friends" showed that they knew each other pretty well, once you get to know sum1 a lot its only natural to feel somethin towards them.

*DUST* — Wed, 2 Nov 2005 - 22:12

guys and gals cant b mates FULL STOP (they even say this in dum b hollywood movies!) 😉

one sin just leads to the next...

i have a friend who is mates with a guy. he was forced into a marriage in pakiland and came back here. since then he's never made an effort to get his wife over here and his family have finally cum around to the fact that he's not bothered about that 'marriage'. except his dad, who's too ill to do anything or summat.

anyway, he told my friend that he likes her. (she was like 'eww') yeh, she doesnt see him in the same way. i told her to break off the 'friendship' as it isnt halal and the fact that there is a girl somewhere who thinks she's married to this idiot makes things worse. my friend agreed, and she told him they shud stop chatting, she doesnt see him in the same way etc. but he just wouldnt take no for an answer. he went as far as to start chatting regularly to my friend's siblings and her other friends, and even met her father!! my mate gave in and continued being 'friends' with him. the thing is, this guy, in the hope that my friend will eventually accept him as a hubby or summat, does loadsa odd jobs for the family. she is basicly using him coz she knows she'll never wanna marry him anyway.

i have done everything in my power to try to get her to understand how silly she's being (in a nice way ofcourse) but to no avail. anyone got some advice?

and moral of the story ppl: don't get urselves into this stupid rut in the first place!!
