salaam, i just wanted to say that i have read the new issue of the revival and i think mashallah it was excelent. the title eid not weed was good.it applies to a lot of the younger generation these days.

The eid not weed article was so true, coz thats what its all about to these kids.and also the Ali & Jamal was good.I think the guys need to have a read of that.Overall i think it was very good.

the magazines will be arriving in london, luton, nelson, dewsubury, preston, bolton..... this weekend.
they have already arrived in sheffield, birmingham, bradford, manchester, etc...
they will be in oxford, highwycombe, scotland etc at the start of next week...

so far the feedback has been very good mashallah...

This is my first post on the new Revival Website... but I'm an old school Revival reader from the days that the very first issue was distributed in 1997 I think...

WARNING: this post may be deemed to be quite critical! I am one of you, one who wants the Revival to be massive, one who realises the need for it as much or more than some of you. SO PLEASE... don't get defensive as this post is not offensive; it's constructive, which I believe will be welcomed by the Editorial Team and the Chief S.I.!

Masha'allah the work being done is positive and there is a surge of energy behind the product, but I believe the revival now, is not as big (impact wise) as it was before. The re-invention hasn't matured or tapped into new terratory or even peaked as much as the old-school version. More people talked about the old version than the new... the old school readers are not finding much interest in the new Revival and treat it in a passive manner as in they've already seen the best of it and there is nothing more to attract them, or so they feel. Let's prove them, including myself wrong :!:

The design also is not my cup of tea personally... it's more of a diluted english cup of tea as opposed to the desi cup of tea with illaichi that it could be. My views are based on the previous issue and the cover of the new issue, Insha'allah will have a copy of the new one this weekend and post further feedback.

To me the Revival still has that look where you can take it from the kind distributor, scan (or read) it and then ultimately bin it! It doesn't make me want to treasure it. Do you agree :?: plz be honest!

On a positive note: I feel that the only improvement since Version1 is mass distribution and active participation from sisters is making the revival more balanced and appropriate to target Brothers and Sisters.

:idea: Conclusion: I think we should step up a level and start a fresh, yet again, from 2006!!! with a version 3.

Let us come together in this holy month and really drive this ship, hit it with everything we have with a means to make it last and not preempt a version 4.

to a slight extent - i gotta agree

im also an oldskool reader and where i once used to buzz of them and read em over n over, i only buzz of it for a bit now

but i know its still really relevant for todays youth so i guess its all good

what do you suggest?

the design is great by the way, its come a long way IMO

content wise - i cant see very many topics that effect todays youth besides the obvious that crop up all the time....sex, drugs, dating, marriage, terrorism, etc

but thats just what i think

Impact.

I think with the old revivals (yes im another old school revival reader) there was much more of an impact not only was it clever, witty, colourful it was also something new and had a bit of a buzz about it. It was kinda like the flava of the month.

Since the revivals been going since, how long now? Its no longer the same, partially becoz we're using the same tried and tested angle over and over. The old ones where out like once in a blue moon so i guess you had more time to get it right before sending it off to the printers.

The controversial factor is fine its got little to do with that. Content wise as Hayder has already said is alot of the same stuff over and over again. Most of it had already been covered in previous issues.

Layout & presentation wise in contrast to the old ones is that its simply not as bright, in your face and eye catching as before. Now i understand we're trying to make it a bit more professional but all you seem to be doing is making it bland.

Thats just my opinion.

The old one wasn't colourful at all from what I saw of it.

It was just white with blue text.

People need to move on. This reminiscing about the old issues is holding us back.

The 'buzz factor' for us isn't the same because first-off we're not 15 any more, and secondly we already know what's going to be in the issues. Thirdly, we have a glorified view of past issues, we are failing to grasp that the competition out there is going to require The Revival to be more than just two-pieces of paper stuck together.

Can you explain this 'buzz' that you felt about the old Revival? Prob not. But it was prob something about looking forward to the next installment, right? Loadsa people have asked me about when the next issue is out.

People who are 15/16 and/or are not familiar with The Revival do get that 'buzz'. But they don't tell because they they can't explain it.

You are too familiar with The Revival to feel the buzz you did when you were still a schoolboy.
