depends. I have a true beard alhamdulillah and it is quite curly. If I want to make it straight and tidy I have to use a hairdryer cos just combing it does make it orderly but hairdryer makes it look longer and neater, alhamdulillah.

it really bugs me when u see people using Islam as an excuse to look like tramps
to some people beard means-NEVER needing to trim/cut shave/comb/neaten/straighten etc
and to some girls Hijaab is an excuse for greasy hair-or going days and days without washing it
Submitted by Medarris on 30 September, 2005 - 23:06 #76
I dont think any1 is suggesting muslim men who have zulfe should try and turn em into dreadlocks!
Yes hygiene is a beauty of our deen.

lol boy does it bug me too, its like "lets see who wins the competion for the longest beard"!
I saw this white male on the bus and he had a goatee but the bottom part of his goatee was like 5 inches long! ewwwwww it was disgustin now imagine a non-muslim lukin at a muslim cuz the beard is everywhere and not tidy and unhygeinic lookin!? Not a good impression bout islam!

Im not sure where this type of comment is coming from.
Sayyidina Nabi salallahu alayhi wa sallam had a full beard, Sahabah Karaam kept long full beards. The fistful beard is the minimum. It is only established that after the fist length it MAY be trimmed. If men grow the beard beyond the fist that is better and it should only be trimmed to a fist when it becomes exceedingly long or at the time to be released from ihraam.

You have to keep the beard neat, so if its the sunnah to have it the a fist lenght, where does it state you have to have it longer than that and btw i wsnt really talkin bout the lenght more to with ppl who dont bother keeping their beard neat and making it look messy!
Submitted by Medarris on 30 September, 2005 - 23:25 #80
actually the stronger view is that the beard should be left to grow. The only basis for the trimming of the beard to a fist are certain incidents regarding a few Sahabah Karaam who trimmed the beards of men who were excessively long.
I dont think we have an issue here.
Yes it should be maintained.

there is a difference of opinion on the issue of the size of the beard.
less than fistful is also permissible.
the prophet had a fistful beard but he NEVER stated that a beard should be that long. if it was compulsory for a beard to be fistful long then there would have been a clear order on this issue.
the shafi, maliki and hanbli dont agree with fistful length.
hazrat ali had a beard that would reach his chest... it wasnt just fistful length...which was the size which the prophet did not have.
mullah ali qari (rh)- a hanfi scholar was of the opinion that a beard less than a fistful is also permissible- and not haram as some suggest.
yes alot of scholar of the hanafi school have said a beard should be a fist full... but we should appreciate difference of opinion.
a person with a beard which is short should not be looked down upon.

no. This is my way of saying I dont see the point in me going to all the trouble of doing mutala'a when by and large people do not pay due respect to the issues pressented before them. i am not being specific to you. I am being general.
I do not think forums are the place for rigorous debates and furnishing of proofs or evidences and it will be noted that I only did it once and that was my first and last time that I went into detail.
After that I have taken alhamdulillah what I think is a pretty laid back approach.

having zulfe is a sunnah established. It is a beauty and a coolness for our eyes alhamdulillah.
What I dont like is women with short hair, euch. ALLAH gave them hair for beauty and they go and chop it off and walk around like boys. Nasty or what.

i've seen models with pretty faces who suit short hair
too bad same cant be said about yeti lookalikes-who use Islam as a excuse to look like unkempt gorrila's
Guys who have long hair should wash them regularly, cut them when they overgrow and trim them and not try goin for layers!
If one keeps their beard and hair neat and tidy then they will be able to attract ppl to islam....
I believe the Holy Prophet hair were just above his shoulders and had a slight wave, thats perfection which cannot be achieved....
