Are You A Morning Person?

MuslimSister

Salaam

I’m not a morning person….I never have been. I sort of “wake up” at night…..if I ever need to work on something I start in the evening cos that’s when I’m most focused and full of energy.

I’ve always struggled to get out of bed before 9.00….and if I am out of bed before nine I’m half asleep….(unlike mum I’m not a chirpy early bird)

Fajr prayer is the most important prayer of the day.

The Holy Prophet ﷺ tells us that fajr Salaah along with Isha Salaah is particularly rich in blessings….

"If people only knew what blessings are in the fajr and Isha prayer, they would come to them, even if they had to crawl." (Bukhari and Muslim)

I find it SO hard to get up for Fajr, I’m up on most days but I’m always sleepy…and as soon as I’ve read Fajr I get back into bed without even bothering to pack the prayer mat away…. (I’ve heard that one really shouldn’t go back to sleep after Fajr)

If Fajr is say at 5.00 then I set my alarm clock for 4.30…cos I always spend 30 mins snoozing and thinking about getting out of bed.

Apparently back in the day people didn’t even need alarm clocks cos they would automatically wake up at Fajr/Tahajid time…those people had spiritual alarm clocks built in them...

Allah (swt) loves people those who deprive their sides from their beds, resist sleep (which the body loves) and rise for prayer, for the sincere sake of earning the pleasure of Allah (swt).

Someone once asked Hadrat Aisha (raa) about the most amazing thing she observed about the Holy Prophet (saw). She said “Everything about him was incredible. But I will say this, when the veiling of the night came, and when every lover went to his lover, he ﷺ went to be with his Lord”.

Too much sleep hardens our hearts…we’re programmed to believe that we need our “beauty sleep” and must get at least 6/8 hors of sleep every night…yet the likes of the Great Imam Abu Hanifah was known to read his Fajr prayer with his Isha wudhu for 40 years continuously…How come many of us are weak when it comes to missing our precious sleep?

Any tips on how to be more fresh and alert at Fajr time?

I heard that the way one behaves during the day plays a strong part in this…. A man once told a righteous man “I am unable to maintain night worship, prescribe a remedy for me”. The righteous man said “Do not disobey Him during the day and He will keep you up between His hands at night”....Is our lack of Iman the reason why we struggle with Fajr?

What’s your Fajr situation like?

Yesterday I was so tired, I had full intention to sleep in until 9/10. My mobile rang at 7 in the morning and I switched it off…I knew it was work asking me to come in.

They rang at home and I heard mum say “she’s sleeping, I’ll get her out of bed for you”, I took the call and had to go into work.

I’m ok at getting up if I know I have to go somewhere…but for some reason Ramadan makes it next to impossible for me to wake up early….

I heard a scholar once say in his lecture that we shouldn’t fast as if we are “zombies”.

Fasting does not mean that we should leave our worldly activities and become lazy.

Recently, I’ve began to appreciate men in a different light…its not easy going to work all day long and spending all evening in the Mosque reading Tarawih.

A sign of those who love Allah (swt) is seen in those people who leave their beds and deprive their sleep in order to win Allah (swt) pleasure.

Muslimsis, do u just get asked to come into work, does that mean you have to be flexible? I would hate that!

MuslimSister — Fri, 14 Oct 2005 - 14:50

Salaam

I'm registered with an agency which means that they are flexible....if I don't want to work, I don't have to.

But it also means that I have to be flexible too, so they can call me last minute at 7.00am and tell me to be somewhere for 8.30...

I do agency work cos its flexible... and because I'm still at Uni and also involved in lots of other stuff (radio etc). I can't sign on to anyone's contract or take on permenante work ..

So this suits me and my timetable...and I do love my work.

I got up just now as well, been getting up at 12 for about a week now, which is really unlike me as i am normally really a morning person. It funny how one action affect ur sleeping habit alot, but as i will be working more nightshift i guess it best to get used to it now. It is despressing waking up late IMO.

On the Weekend I get up my Fajar namaz and then go back to bed till 10.30 even after that I still do not feel like getting up, so I have to force myself to getup.

perhaps this can help:

"The cry of the reed is fire, not wind
Whosoever does not posess this fire may he be naught,

Tis the fire of love that befelled the reed,
Tis the fervent desire of love that entered the wine."

As for clarity my friend:

"Whatever description or explanation I give of love,
When I reach love I am ashamed of my exposition."

If I have no pressure on me…nothing to do/no where to go etc. Then I just lie in bed for hours even if I’m awake.

I do this most Sundays…even though this gives me a killer headache and I usally end up having a rubbish day.

Early mornings is the worst time in the day for me, I can not function at all….the other day I left my house before 8.00am and cos I was so sleepy I started my car in first gear…the car jerked forward and rolled down the road. Thank God! There wasn’t a car parked in front of my car, if there was it would have been seriously damaged.

I then made a U turn for some stupid reason…even though I was parked in the direction that I wanted to go…then after I was half way down the road I realised that I was driving the wrong way so I had to make another U turn.

This morning work called me at 07.00am…I assumed that it was Thursday and that I had a lot on so I told them that I couldn’t come in to work, when I woke up two hours later I realised that it was Friday and I have nothing on so I could have easily went in to work…

For me, the day starts at 9/10 in the morning, I can not function before that…I’m dreading going back to Uni/work early in the morning from next week. I don't know why its so difficult to function esp since I spent 15 years of my life out of bed at 07.00am for school/college etc
