Some time ago I started a thread up regarding Deeyah…this so called Muslim Madonna who is often seen surrounded by three huge bodyguards, to protect her from people spitting on her, calling her a ***** blinding her with pepper spray, describing in detail how they’re going to cut her up bit by bit and leave her bleeding to death like the dirty, filthy pig they say she is.

I did kinda sympathise with her….its true that she didn’t ever make references to her faith or being a Muslim….and whilst everyone would agree that she is in the wrong violent/physical/verbal attacks on her were NOT justified at all.

In an interview she once said “The thing is, I’ve never put myself forward as a Muslim. Religion is something I don’t advertise” says Deeyah.

The other day I was in my friend’s house and she had saved Deeyah’s latest song on her computer for me to watch.

It was a very dodgy music video… but what struck me was the bit in the end when Deeyah is shown wearing a long, loose black Jilbaab and Niqab….and is seen dropping it to the ground to reveal a bikini top and a sarong….

Isn’t that just fully taking the mick?

She is also seen dancing with black guys who are wearing the Niqab?!

I’m not completely sure what message she’s trying to convey…but it’s obvious that she’s trying to make a stand against something.

There’s a rapper in the song who threatens to “shoot the Muslims who hate on her”.

It’s obvious that she’s trying to “get back” at all those people who make her life hell…. But what kind of logic is that? I can’t help but think that after this video she’s going to receive even more grief.

Has anyone seen or heard about the video?

Yeah, I saw her video once on B4U Music....

It did have the desired shock impact.

But she isnt well known, I only heard about her cos I reg read Asian Woman fashion magazine...

People can and do influence other people's choices.Deeyah was just being Deeyah and those muslims shouldn't have done what they did. Of course she could just be making it up but I don't think so.

Evidently it has become a marketing ploy because that picture where she's whering a cross has those words in the background. If that article is true those asians did more harm to islam than good.

I notice you girls and guys bought up the topic of salman rushdie..i;ve not read the satanic verses because the title doesn't appeal to me and i've heard he's got a death threat looming over him.

Anyway i recently finished reading "desperately seeking paradise" by ziauddin sardar, it mentioned the salman rushdie contraversy, in one whole chapter. I was quite shocked by how this man took our prophet's biography (pbuh), and made it out to be his own "fiction" story. He only made slight changes to names, made outrageously offensive caricatures of every key figure in the history of Islam, all the wives of the prophet (ra), all the companions (ra) nothing went untouched. He used Martin lings biography as an outline. How he wasn't done for libel or blasphemy beats me. The book suggests the climate the book was written in, with thatcherite rule, racism, and the bnp ideas on the rise, meant the discrimination was justified, and overlooked.

In light of the new laws can't he be done for blasphemy. I mean muslim book shops are gona be scrutinised for any so called "terrorist" material for the greater good of society. What good in society does this book serve? Shouldn't all book shops be vetted, why just islamic ones?

Question do books go through a vetting process before they're deemed suitable for the public to read, or can any joe blogs produce some trash and get it out there as long as he/she finds a publisher?

P.S even though the man makes my blood boil i wana read the book to be informed myself rather than via a third party.
