Free Mixing
Salaam
Yeh, I know I started this thread before but I want to start it again, because once again this “free mixing” issue has become a bit cloudy.
What on Earth is “free-mixing”?
When I go to Uni and when need be talk to guys/my lecturers/ the Admin etc Am I free mixing?
When go to town and do shopping for mum-Am I free mixing…cos my town centre is not gender segregated.
When I take my baby sister to the doctor/dentist- Am I “free mixing”?
When I’m sitting on the bus or train…Am I free mixing?
When I go to my Mosque and chat to the Imam’s …Am I free mixing?
I don’t think I am. I’m always covered and only ever chat to members if the opposite sex if I really have to.
Whenever my dad/brothers mates come to my house they sit in the front room whilst the girls are in the back room…….but sometimes my uncle brings his mates to our house and we all sit in the same room together….that’s cos his mates are involved with MPAC and they wish to speak to us all about it…..so if I’m properly covered, my families in the room with me, no one’s trying it on with anyone….is there anything wrong with that?
The iron curtain that is drawn by some regarding “free-mixing” bugs me.
What also bugs me is the “its all about the niyat (intentions)” motto that many people abide by.
Some claim that they are unable to find partners because Islam draws such extreme iron curtains between males and females…..which is understandable.
Others claim that they must “date” before they get married, in order to see what the person is really like…… this is not understandable…
We live in a society where girls and boys interact with one another. It’s inevitable.
I feel that if the conversation/interaction is absolutely necessary and does not border on flirting etc then one is justified……but at the same time I don’t believe that girls and boys can “just be friends”.
And in what way does free-mixing take place in the Mosque? Is it when paths cross on the way to the Imam's office?
If women ever managed to get on the Mosque committee's would they be "free mixing"?
So bearing all the implications/limitations of living in the West in mind, share your thoughts…what exactly is free mixing and where do we draw the line?

I think it is sinful, just because I do a sin doesnt mean that im gonna start defending it or justifying it. I could just as easily have written no there is nothing wrong with this but then i wud be defending my sin. Sinning is bad enough, defending your sins is inexcusable.
Thats not what i asked.
Why keep doing it then?
Free Mixing
cos i find it difficult walking away from a half finished convo? because i enjoy it?
that doesnt change my view that its wrong.
Free Mixing
its tru what LilSis said.....jus like you sin and continue.....like she acknoweldges she dont read fajr on time and yet u criticised her for that.
double standards sunshine
Free Mixing
People sin. Even if they know its wrong.
Defending the actions is not the right thing.
people do sin knowingly
but how many people openly publicise their sins?
and act like arrogant sinners-with the "and what" mentality
Free Mixing
publicising sins is very wrong.
I you publicise sins, you are bringing people into a matter which was initially between you and your creator.
More hurdles if you ask for forgiveness. Less likely to cross them all.
Free Mixing
well me and u muslimsis.
im not taking a i sin and what approach.
I am sinning but im not defending it. Its like those women who dont wear hijab, i dont see u criticiseing them for not covering up so y the double standard here?
Secondly fajr is a most basic obligation and its obligation is apparent. There is difference of opinoin with regards to these chats and forums. So missing fajr and publicing it and doing forums and publicising it is not exactly the same.
Free Mixing
missing fajr and showing REGRET over that action-i.e embarrased face
shows that I'm ashamed of it-and am trying to sort myself out
but saying that free mixing on line is wrong and then STILL contining posting is double standards
btw do u suffer from night blindness
my mum does thats why she often gets me and my older sister mixed up
do u suffer from the same prob?
Free Mixing
so the condition for showing regret is showing an embarassed face? well sorry but i dont use emoticons.
just as ur post gives the impression that u intend to start reading fajr in ramadan i can say u are being double faced, y dont u start fajr 2mrw?
Just as i will inshaALLAH stop posting, dont get ur hopse up ppl, i didnt come here as a permanent member, so to my situation is similar to you.
as for confusing you and your sister what can i say? if your own mother is mixing you up what can u expect from a complete stranger?lol i find that funny
Free Mixing
ur both attacking each other now 😂
still cant see why this is sinning :?
if u spend too much time here and miss important stuff...or ur discussin rubbish then its not good i agree
but discussin important subjects and spreading our knowledge (well not me!) cant be a bad thing
Free Mixing
Its not sin posting here, unless its just to cause fitnah.
These forums are a way for people to express their feelings, understand the world better, and learn something along the way.
Free Mixing
bro i aint attacking no1. Im a lover not a fighter, im a dove not a hawk!!
Nah but seriously I dont mean any personal offence just coming in here for a bit of a laugh.
I think I should go back to my old mode of formal speech? I think speaking in a bit more relaxed manner creates confusion and causes me to get a bit lax in my points.
hayder bro can i add u to my msn list bro?
Free Mixing
Is gonna cause more clashes that way.
Your formal speech hints at arrogance. It may not be intended, but will cause more colourful scenes.
And you cannot blame lilsis for being angry atm.

Yeah what he said.
Seriously if you (Medievalist) do think that by posting you're sinning please explain why?
Free Mixing
it seems to me that muslimsislilsis has serious issues with everything i say so her objections or whatever dont really have much affect on me.
I note that in the thread hijab and jeans she makes some accustaion against me and i let them past because it seems whatever editor says she agrees with. Well thats fine, muhtarama may take editor as he faqih and mujtahid, i will take Imam Abu Haneefah and His Students as my fuqaha and mujtahid imams.
As for formal speech appearing arrogant I apologise for that, that is not my intention. With formal speechI find there is less chance of flirting or joking around with opposite sex, the language is too the point and not unecessary. Plus I am being trained in formal speech and writing so obviously practice makes perfect.
Free Mixing
so ur practising here, but simultaneously sinning 😂
lol, messin wiv u bro
Free Mixing
yeh i ges so.
Look by us there is two ways of speaking/writing.
I can be relaxed and right how i normally speak yeh, and thats not very well or educated sounding cos every1 in alum rock spks like that.
Other option is I can make some effort and speak with more structure, and with a more correct application of english grammar and a wider use of vocabulary. As I have never herd a Mawlana give bayan with yehs and innits in it i think im gonna have to make effort and speak better and wite better as well.

bro, this is well out of order
just because littlesis agreed with my view on that topic , as did alot of ppl on this forum, you have no right to say they are blind following me. Most ppl here are muqallid of Imam Abu hanifa.... like i sai dto you before bro, if someone diagrees with u , why do u take it personally, why accuse them of this and that.
As for the point that it is a sin to come on thsi forum because boys and girls are talking to each other! This is totally and utterly wrong. Bro, what is intermixing. Speaking to, and being with ghayr mahrams unenecessarily.
Now speaking to the opposite sex at work is it intermixing?
speaking to the opposite sex in the classroom is it intermixing?
speaking to the opposite sex face to face about islam , is it intermixing?
speaking to the opposite sex on the phone, or through email about islam, is that intermixing?
you see islam prohibits intermixing because it will lead to zina, illegal relationship, create fitna etc.
now if you speak to the opposite sex due to neccesity liek in your work place or due to educational reasons then what is wrong with it, as long as youre intention is only to speak to them out of neccresity. At work you have to speak to everyone, man, woman, gay..whatever. this is actually indirect dawah, being a role model. so islam does permit that.
now speaking to the opposite sex about islam is permissible as long as you're intention is dawah only, the female is dressed approproately and that you are not in isolation. so speaking to the opposite sex over sialmic issues, answering questions, discussing organising an event etc is permissible. Islam is not that rigid. At any time if you feel the other person is trying to chat you up, flirting, behaving unislamically then you should end it asap.
i speak to female work colleagues, muslim sisters on phone, email, msn regarding islam, answering questions and queries, regarding revival magazine, on islamic stalls etc..is that intermixing?
Now speaking to the opposite sex on the forum. i dont think anyone does flirt or chats ppl up, we the moderators make sure of that. this forum helps us all to understand and discuss issues facing muslim men and women, non muslim men and women in the UK and worldwide. it does increase knowledge, wakes you up to the modern issues....
we as muslims should not be rigid but open minded, with the right intention and bare the shariah in mind at all times.

its well out of order? how plz explain?
she and u i might add are leaving the ruling of the elders of ahnaaf, u are setting urselves up as mujtahid imams. nothin out of order in the way i wrote, i didnt use disrespectful language so whats so out of order?
Any1 who looks objectively will see that you STILL have not provided even a scrap of evidence that the hanafi ruling has been changed. Brother I have no personl interest in this issue. If Imam Abu Haneefah, Imam Muhammad, Imam Abu Yusuf or later the Majority of Ahnaaf issued a fatwa saying that womens attendance at mosque is a must , even then i would follow their opinion that womens attendance is a must. See whatever the issue I strongly believe in doing taqleed so you are rong in accusing me of taking it personally. I can assure you personally has nothing to do with it.
All I have done is fllow what the books say the elders of Ahnaaaf ruled and to this day I have not heard or seen any evidence that any hanafi alim of standing has said that the issue has been changed or that the ruling is no longer valid.
Brother I a hurt that you found that post of mine out of order. As far as I can see certain people here are giving rulings which contradict the proven rulnigs of the elders of their school and I have REPEATEDLY requested proof that the hanafi ruling is no longer as the one I stated. If going against the elders of your madhab, if giving a different ruling or opinoin to the unbroken consensus of your madhab, if not providing a single evidence to prove that your madhabs ruling has been changed is not setting yourself up as a mujtahid then what is?
Taqleed my brother does not mean following in some issues and discarding the others. Alhamdulillah we are muqallid of Ulama Ahnaaf. We cant accept 90% of their rullings and then on a whim WITHOUT PROVIDING EVIDENCE go against them in 10% of issues.
Again I reassure you that I am not being stubborn. Brother provide evidence that the ruling has changed, I will investigate and ask for further clarification from Ulama Karaam; I have no problem with changing my view as you will se in prevoius posts and in other threads i DO apologise when I feel that I have done wrong, so it is not a matter of some1 disagreeing with me personally.
If the issue was about disagreeing with me personally then that would mean that the ruling regarding women is my ruling. I have proven that the ruling is that of Elders of Ahnaaf , my personal opinion doesnt come into it at all. I kindly request you clarify this issue viz that this is not my personal opinion and rather it is the opinion of Elders of Ahnaaf.
The accusation of me having personal opinion is extremely dangerous one. I will not have people casting doubt on my taqleed of Ahnaaf Ulama. It may insignificant in the eyes of others but accusing me of formulating a personal opinion is indeed a great lie on me and I reject it.

i think its becoming a lot clearer where "misconceptions" regarding Muslim women come from
them who hold ridgid backwards-view regarding free mixing and women's rights/role
are repsonsible for the misconceptions

MuslimSis plz provide evidence evidence that the hanafi ruling is no longer as i stated.
People cant just make their own rulings, that is not taqleed. You MUST provide evidence (not talking about ahadeeth) I am talking about ulama's consensus on an issue that the ruling has changed.

read my post in the hijab and jeans thread, i have answered u there on the topic
here we are talking about free mixing, not women and mosques.
i havent left the view of teh elders or ahnaaf, i have gave evidence from mukhtasar al qudoori, and even told you view of Imam Ibn Abidin al Shaami on his view about women attending the masjid. so quit with your accusations, im sick of them. just your view of islam is not the only correct view you know...when i said you were intolerant and narrow minded...thats what i meant.

Umm Imara defended the Holy Prophet ﷺ during the Battle of Uhud after the Muslims were defeated. Hadrat Umar ibn al-Khattab said "I heard the Prophet ﷺ say ‘On the day of Uhud, I never looked right or left without seeing Umm Imara fighting to defend me.’"…..was she “free mixing”?
Hadrat Aisha (ra) was also an active lady. She went to mosques and rallied people to take up arms against Hadrat Ali.
She led thousands of men into the "Battle of the Camel."…… Hadrat Aisha (ra) also looked after the wounded in the battle of Uhud….was she “free mixing”?
Women always attended the teaching sessions of the Holy Prophet (saw)…... A well-known story depicts a woman reasoning with Hadrat Umar (ra) in the mosque over the issue of the amount of bridal money paid to the bride. It also illustrates how `Umar (the third caliph), being convinced of her argument, reversed his opinion to that of hers....were they “free mixing”.
Another example is that of the Queen of Sheba, which is cited by the Holy Qur'an as consulting her people about how they should respond to Solomon's message to her, later then she arrives in Prophet Solomon's (pbuh) palace, she converses with him….. is that “free mixing”?
In the prime of his youth, Prophet Moses (pbuh) is depicted talking to the two daughters of the old man of Madyan. He asks them questions and gets their answers without any particular feeling of guilt or embarrassment and helps them.
The stories cited in the Holy Qur'an are a means of reflection and guidance.
Islam is not a strict impractical rigid religion. Islam is a religion of moderation and balance.
By examining the mode of conduct of our pious predecessors we hardly find such an iron curtain, as is drawn by some people.
