It looks interesting.

Unfortunately, it seems to lack a historical component,but that may be covered within the context of the modern struggles.

A historical context from the constitution of Madinah to the dissolution of the caliphate in 1923 would have been an interesting addition - It would help understand many of the issues and misconceptions where a constition is cofused by a law.

Like the Constitution of Madinah it set basic levels of agreement which did not impose specific aspects of law, but covered the "bigger picture".

in the intro vid he did mention that this course was - historically - starting from (basically) the downfall of islam.

Yup, it states it starts with the Napoleonic invasion of Egypt.

The lecturer has an interesting bike - with a dog seat at the front.

I signed up for this when it was posted on here.

OK managed to get a start and complete week 1.

Week 2 is Ottoman history. Pretty interesting.

(Week 3 is Egyptian history)

Is homework involved? 

not really. some videos, some links to long essays and then a quiz.
