Could it be that the Student Loans are in reality a graduate tax and not really a loan.
They seem to me like income tax which is a progressive form of tax -- the more you earn the more you will pay. Low income earners will not pay anything and after 30 years there will be nothing to pay.
If tomorrow the Goverment change the name and call this a graduate tax and not loan -- the reality may stay the same but everyone will then say that Degrees are now Halal.

Student loans are evil.
The justification is that the state cannot afford to pay them, so it has to be a loan.
To date all student loans have been paid by the state to the justification is a lie.

On the issue of halaal - evne though they are loans, I would still say education is a must, and must be obtained.
The only people the Muslim community harms by refusing to get educated is the Muslim community itself.
We need experts in everyfield, be self sufficient and not needy on external "benefactors" to help us survive.
An important part of that is education (for both men and women - if you want the women to be seen by women experts, they need to exist first!)
