Google defined it well: A pause or gap in a sequence, series, or process. I think it's that.

This is one of the worst kinds of stratigies that can be used, I read somewhere soldier(s?) raped whilst the guy(s?) was tied up and made to watch!

It must physically and mentallly break them down
