Black Magic & Jinn

By Shaykh Salim Ghisa

Black Magic and evil Jinn both exist in Islam and have been proven by the Quran and Hadith.

It is evident from the Qur'an and the Hadith that Jinn are the creations of Allah and are made from Fire. Like Angels they cannot be seen by the normal human eye. Because of their fiery nature there are more evil Jinn hence disbelievers and are also referred to as Shaytaans.
They can commit havoc if interfered with but generally keep themselves to themselves. They live in the world and take their place where it suits them, usually remote areas. Evil Jinn tend to stay in impure places like the toilets etc.

The Prophet of Allah (Allah bless him & give him peace) advised the Muslims to pray

‘Allahumma Inni A’oothubika Minal Khuboosi Wal Khabaa’ith’ (Oh Allah we ask for your protection from the evil male and female Shaytaans) [Hisn ul Hasin].

Good Muslim Jinn tend to live in isolated places where they can worship Allah without disturbance and this can be in the Masjid, cemeteries, woods etc. Jinn do not generally get involved with the humans unless they are disturbed or powered by the spirits. There are some spiritual scholars who can control Jinn and the Jinn have given Bay’ah to them but the true scholars do not publicise this fact.

The best protection from evil Jinn is to not go to any false person but to recite the Ayatul Qursi and the 4 Quls (Surahs, Kafiroon, Ikhlas, Falaq & Naas) from the Quran and this will prevent any Jinn from coming near you.

Black Magic - A Myth?

Black magic does exist and it was even performed on the Prophet of Allah (Allah bless him & give him peace).

‘A Jew by the name of Labid ibn Asim who outwardly posed to be a believer (Munafiq) carried out black magic on the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him & give him peace). He took the hair of the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him & give him peace) and made eleven knots and placed it under a rock in a well called Zarwan.

The effect of this was that it created uncertainty in the mind of the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him & give him peace) as to whether he had done or not done certain things (although this had no effect on his religious and prophetic obligations)

At times the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him & give him peace) felt he had accomplished something yet he had not done so and vice versa. The angel Jibra’il informed the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him & give him peace) as to what had occurred and came down with the two Surahs, namely Surah al-Falaq and Surah an-Nas. The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him & give him peace) together with the Companions (Allah be pleased with them all) went to the well and removed the knotted hair. As each verse was recited, the knots untied miraculously.

At the eleventh knot, the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him & give him peace) was relieved from the effects of this black magic. [See: Tafsir Ibn Kathir & Ma’arif al-Qur’an]

The Cure For Black Magic

The above teaches us that black magic exists and what the remedy for it is. There are also other remedies for curing black magic as mentioned in the Ahadith:

'Sayyida A’isha (Allah be pleased with her) narrates:

“Whenever the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him & give him peace) would become ill, he would recite the Mu’awwizat (Surah al-Falaq & Surah an-Nas) and blow over himself. When his illness was aggravated, I used to recite these two Surahs (and blow my breath) over him and make him rub his body with his own hand, for its blessings.” [Sahih al-Bukhari, no. 4728]

Also, the consuming of Ajwa dates has been prescribed by the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him & give him peace) as a remedy for black magic. Amir ibn Sa’d narrates from his father that the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him & give him peace) said:

‘“He who eats seven Ajwa dates every morning, will not be affected by poison or magic on the day he eats them.” [Sahih al-Bukhari, no. 5130]

Also the use of Taweez (Amulets) is permissible as long as it is written in Arabic and contains verses of the Quran and Allah’s name and this is explained in the famous Hanafi book of Fiqh as follows:

“Using of amulets (Taweez) will not be permissible if they are written in a non-Arabic language, in that its meaning is unknown. They may consist of black magic, disbelief or impermissible invocations. However, if they consist of Quranic verses or prescribed supplications (Duas), then there is nothing wrong with using them.” [Radd al-Muhtar, 6/363]

The reason why non-Arabic charms have been forbidden is because one will be unaware of their meaning; hence it may consist of utterances of disbelief, such as seeking the help of the devil and other such matters.

Dodgy Peers And Shaykhs?

Illiteracy and ignorance is the root to all evil. Many people who are illiterate or ignorant believe that because they may be going through challenging times in their lives they can pick out a scapegoat and therefore blame an outside interference (namely Jinn) for the reasons for their problems. When in fact, it is their lack of knowledge or lack of guidance for their children that has led to the problems.

They then go to false and ignorant so called Peer/Sufi Babas who speak the language they want to hear and then charge them extremely large fees for the solutions to their problems.

Muslims should remember that Allah is the solution to all their problems and items like Taweez can be true but only when made by truly god fearing people of Taqwa and knowledge who themselves are strict practising Muslims and generally NEVER charge for their service.

A clear sign of false money-making Taweez is when set charges are placed and are usually extravagant compared to the service provided and when these facts are advertised by either the TV or leaflets or magazines. May Allah protect us all from these people. One should avoid these false people and instead revert to praying five times a day, recite the Quran and look for the solution by asking Allah for help. All Muslims should be aware that whilst Black Magic exists Allah and His Messengers have also shown us the remedy for it, which is explained above.

How Do You Suss Out Fake Shaykhs/Peers?

The only way to recognise false peers is to recognise the true teachings of Islam and therefore to understand the people who belong to Allah. One of the key aspects of understanding people of Allah is that they will be people who openly and secretly practice the Shariah without caring for the world and its materials. They cannot be people who sit at home and do not attend the Masjids for prayers as this is an obligation for the Muslims. They cannot be people who have no knowledge of the laws of Allah but they are people who practice even the smallest Sunnah of The Prophet of Allah (Allah bless him & give him peace).

You can recognise fake Shaykhs and peers when you yourself have the understanding of Islam or are closely linked to true scholars and therefore can be guided.

So Who’s A True Shaykh/Peer Then?

One must be aware that Only Allah has the power to cure and whilst the pious have the ability to prescribe the methods Allah has shown it is still the will of Allah that makes things happen.

A person must be aware that a Peer or Sufi must have four qualities for them to be qualified as a Shaykh:

1. He must be of the correct beliefs of Ahl e Sunnah i.e he must have the true beliefs of the Quran, Sunnah and the consensus of the classical scholars.

2. He must not be an open wrongdoer and therefore must follow the Shariah such as praying Salah with congregation, does not perform any wrong acts openly against the Shariah.

3. He must have enough knowledge of the Shariah that he knows the Halal and the Haram and knows basic jurisprudence so that he is aware on how to fulfil his basic obligations.

4. He must be given permission (Ijazah) by his Shaykh and his Shaykh all the way to the Prophet (May Allah bless him and grant him peace) so that true virtue can be obtained.

Muslims when faced with problems should first of all check medical opinion and also look at themselves to see whether their upbringing of their children is according to Islam and hence not waste money on false Shaykhs or Peers.

Of course Allah knows best.

Interesting...

hmmmm maybe next you should do an article on 'how to do your own exorcism?' Lol

joke... dont actually do that.

The reason why non-Arabic charms have been forbidden is because one will be unaware of their meaning;

Is this not true only for Arabic speakers who speak no other language?

Also, a follow up question - how would a person know that something has been done and how would it be cured?

How is that related to black magic or jinn?

Surely trying 50 amils (bearing in mind I have no idea what that means) is a waste of time when you could try getting a job instead.

There are plenty of jobs out there for young men like you and your brothers, even if they might not be pleasant.

May Allah (swt) grant you patience, energy and dignity. Ameen.

Don't just do something! Stand there.

This is a very good article explained in a very clear manner about the Jinnaht and Sahayteen and the escape from those evils. Only being nearer to Allah will find find all earthly and thereafter problems. May Allah bless you for the knowledge you shared.

As salamu allaiqum

lot of people they perform black magic . magic is very dangerous to all people . because when some magician do black magic to a victim first they order to shaitan go and haram to victim and shaitan did black magic to victim in quran surah bakarah 102 verse Allah mentioned that shaitan do black magic

Ok i didn't k ow whether i should create a new topic or not but i didn't quite find my answer here. I generally don't get involved in this subject at all mainly because i'm not very familiar with it. I merely believe that these things exist and that is all.

Basically my cousin says he's encountered jinn many times before and a few years ago he believed he had someone cast black magic on him. He said he came in physical contact with them almost every night and sometimes they tried to physically hurt him.

I can't say i believe that he was being 'haunted' by jinns but i don't think it's all in his head. He went to many people for help and eventually these encounters stopped but just today he's told me it's happening again and he's gone to see a Ruqqiyah expert. I haven't a clue as to what he's doing and whether it's the right action to take but he told me ge's not gonna go through the same experience again.

Is it wrong to believe that it's all in his mind? I mean can and do jinn physically hurt people?

If this was your friend/family what would you do?

Ruqyah is from hadith - the Qur'an has power.

If he has mental health issues, he needs to see a doctor.

Fears do not have to be jinn.

Is he a stoner?

I know about Ruqyah but my problem is with people who jump to it so quickly.

He has no mental health problems, nor does he do drugs. I just think he's gullible and not the most intelligent of people. Still though, something's up and i just don't understand it

Lets reunite the ummah under one flag LA ILAHA IL ALLAH MUHAMMADUR RASULULLAH

What are you on about? :s

Can never be too quick to turn to the Quran Wink
Isn't recommended to read the 4 Qul/ ayat ul kursi to protect yourself anyway

Also what do you mean he's gullible? Do people keep creeping up behind go
And scarying him into their jinn or something Fool

You say he has no mental issues nor does he do drugs (might want to double check for both though) so why are you refusing to believe this? It is a possibility after all!

I know lots of people cry 'black magic' and 'jinn' and '(curse of the eye' after little stuff or actual illnesses but it CAN occur. And it's got to be taken seriously and sorted out otherwise it can totally ruin peoples lives.

"How many people find fault in what they're reading and the fault is in their own understanding" Al Mutanabbi

I guess it's because i've never experienced it myself that i kinda refuse to believe he's being tortured physically and mentally by a jinn. I mean he's always been paranoid, like "why's he looking at me" sort of thing and he generally doesn't try to see the sense of things. IMO he lacks in logical and rational thinking and he's over emotional.

That's why i have doubts about this.

Like i said i'm no expert in the field and i just wanted to understand the subject better before passing judgement. I just think thatsome people are quick to jump to a conclusion before understanding a situation.

If it is what he says it is then all i can do is make dua i guess

Well Black Magic and interference of Satanic Beings and effects do exists... But mostly its becuase of non compliance by people of injunctions of Sunnah and Quran... the Spirtual World is the World of subconcious the basic principle is to make pure intention and keep your heart sincere towards Allah and Prophet (SAW)... and not let any thing take hold in your heart and mind else than that... Plus almost 99% of Amils are evil people so even if u think u are a victim dont go to them instead realign your life to sunnah The ways told by the Prophet are the defence against Satanic Beings and there effect... Just saying Magic and Jin is all fabrications is not true its a whole different world...

For example: like we catch radio stations on radios Mobile communication is done using Micro wave similarly Human Brain if properly trained can communicate with each other or enter thoughts or ideas in them that is basically Magic the Jins have this ability too... "Decpetion of Eyes and Fear oin Heart" = Magic.. when done with satanic intent as all is energy and atoms it disturbs the natural balance and cuases descrepencies as people tilt away from Quran and Sunnah due to satanic effect... The only way to get rid of that is to have firm belief n push out of the situation through faith in Allah... and turning ur attention and requests to Allah for help

You have to realign ur subconcious to the fact that no benefit or harm will reach me except with Allah's Decree persist with invocations and prayer as told to us by our holy prophet (SAW)

Well i am 32 a sucessful audit professional and i encountered satanic beings n black magic for like 2 or 3 years i nearly died cuaghte many medical conditions and my professional career and domestic life was totally destroyed and distrubed.. but through being persistent in Nimaz and turning toward Allah helped me out of my situation and guided me to a Saintly person for help and cure...

Anyways that person has passed away n publicising him was not allowed as Allah is the source of All Benefit so those who were suppose to be helped came to him like automatically.

May Allah have mercy on All of us and protect us All. Amen

what exactly is it that you want to know?

jinn = beings made out of smokeless fire
shayaatin =children of iblees.

iblees - head of shayaatins.

and yes they can physically hurt you. but if you protect yourself by reading your morning and evening duahs and ayatul kursy and 3 quls and blow upon yourself then they shouldnt be able to harm you.

also, when you're abt to fall asleep there's a jinn and a shaytan waiting. if you fall asleep remembering Allah the angel stays and watches over you all night. same thing happens in the morning, are you going to wake up remembering Allah or not.

edit: also, dont know if you've ever experienced that. but one of these nights when you come back from a dinner at someone's house or a wedding or something like that and your lil sis was all dressed up and cute and people were cooing over her that evening. and on the way back she's the worst brat EVER, just crying and whinging and complaining and you're like "what the flip...this is so unlike her" and then you read 3 quls over her and ayatul kursy before bed and she falls asleep like a....like a...hm...like something that falls asleep nicely and quietly. bout of evil eye here?

Is it true? Is it kind? Is it necessary?

muslimbro it does exist. if it happened to our prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam (Peace and Blessings be upon him) it can more easily happen to us. if your friend is adamant then he may be experiencing this. he is doing th right hing going for advice, as long as the ppl are not dodgy asking for money is a sure sign of it.

im like you if something is wrong i wont immeiately think magic! but arent we in danger of dismissing it entirely. i men its a possibility. iv heard one case of it effecting a person i know, and i know this family is of a good character. they are in regular worship and went for help. but the person that tried to do the exorcism said he could not remove it. after sveral yrs it stopped unexplained. as is alwys the case a cousin had done it.

two members of my family have found taweez planted in their homes, with strange writing on it. we had them taken to someone of knowledge not pir sabs. they confirmed it was related to blck magic. one was placed among food o effect those who onumed the food.. another on the ledge of a bedrrom doorwy. it wad intended for the couple who slept in tht room. its scary stuff when u encounter it.

i have quetion if u supect someone u know does magic, adds things to food, how do. avoid invites to theirs? i mean u can only say no so many times then they get offended. u cant accuse them without having caught them red handed but ur scared to eat there?

“O my people! Truly, this life of the world is nothing but a (quick passing) enjoyment, and verily, the hereafter that is the home that will remain forever.” [Ghafir : 39]

asking for money is a sure sign of it.

accepting/requesting payment is something proven to be accepted through hadith in sahih Bukhari.

i have quetion if u supect someone u know does magic, adds things to food, how do. avoid invites to theirs? i mean u can only say no so many times then they get offended. u cant accuse them without having caught them red handed but ur scared to eat there?

I wouldnt know, but I think suspicion is best avoided. No one can harm you without the power of God and you ask Him for protection.

jsut read the article. what is the def of taweez in that article?

Is it true? Is it kind? Is it necessary?

You words have a lot of logic. People have been misled by theses pirs who falsely use Allah's religion to fix what they call black magic and it's effects. Thank you for the insight. I share your beliefs too. Allah is the only one who has power to cure black magic even if it has been used on someone. Likewise, Allah says in the Quran that even though black magic exists, nobody can do anything till Allah allows that to actually happen to someone. This is when our faith is tested. When bad things happen, when obstacles come in our paths, when we fear we may have evil practices being done on us, do we turn to Allah and ask Him to help and wait patiently for his miracles or do we end up in 'shirk' and visit peers and sufis?

In answer to your question, when black magic ws done on the prophet (saw), did he simply ignore it or were verses revealed, actions done to combat it?

and that was the best of creation.

Just because you dont like something doesnt make it "shirk".

Shirk has a specific meaning. learn it.

"For too long, we have been a passively tolerant society, saying to our citizens 'as long as you obey the law, we will leave you alone'" - David Cameron, UK Prime Minister. 13 May 2015.

Calling upon anyone other than Allah and believing that someone else will be able to help us and not directly asking Allah...to me that is 'shirk'. I don't have to learn it from somewhere else like for instance the internet or a book. The Quran is very clear about shirk. It's not only about worshiping idols or asking people for help by calling upon their graves. It's about getting these Peers and Alims to help us...that is also shirk. They distort our minds. I have seen people getting trapped in this mess just because they did not have the patience to wait for Allah's help after they had called upon Him for help. to them, a physical being like a peer or Alim was more capable of helping than rather than calling Allah directly for that did not give an answer right away. So I know what shirk is. If you don't agree with me, please don't get aggressive. My religion is my own link with Allah. if I am not well aware, he will find a way to help .

I apologise for shouting or being abusive, but I do think you need to revisit what shirk is.

No Muslim calls upon anyone or thinks that any power is outside the control of God.

Your thoughts there are slanderous of other Muslims and I will suggest also wrong.

I do think asking "what did the prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam (Peace and Blessings be upon him) do?" is a valid question and such a case is present in the ahadith. The rope with the knots in it was dug up and two surahs in the qur'an revealed and used as a cure to the black bagic.

Doing that is not shirk but sunnah and a way taught to us from the highest of sources.

No power is from outside the power of God, whether that be that through another source such as a person or even a bounty bar - you just forget that when you eat food, that you also believe that any power in it is from God but are less likely to forget this when it comes to other things.

its in ahadith where the sahabahs were called on to do ruqya and even accepted payment for it and the prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam (Peace and Blessings be upon him) approved of this.

In my view if something was done by the prophet Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam (Peace and Blessings be upon him) and the sahabah's, it cant be shirk and it is very serious for people to suddenly suggest such things.

The islamic principle is that if there is a disease, you seek the cure. you dont just sit there hoping for the best and seeking a cure is not shirk.

I think it is also mentioned in ahadith, you tie your camel first and then rely on God.

The issue of charlatans and dodgy peers is a different one. but you cant use the bad apples to tar them all.

(as to not get aggressive, suggesting that people are doing shirk when they are not is a very aggressive thing to do - far more than any other post even if done with a smile.)

if I am not well aware, he will find a way to help.

Mostly through other people as god does not give revelation to everyone.

and learning from other people will also not be shirk and it will not be considered that you learnt anything from outside the will of Allah (swt).

Quote:
I think it is also mentioned in ahadith, you tie your camel first and then rely on God.

One day Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) noticed a Bedouin leaving his camel without tying it and he asked the Bedouin, "Why don't you tie down your camel?" The Bedouin answered, "I put my trust in Allah." The Prophet then said, "Tie your camel first, then put your trust in Allah" (At-Tirmidhi)

"How many people find fault in what they're reading and the fault is in their own understanding" Al Mutanabbi

Thank you.

Another angle to cover is one of shirk - that of limiting the power of God.

Denying that God can give people or the qur'an or medicine or anything else power in anyway is limiting the power of God and this is shirk.

(I think I need to consolidate all this into a topic on shirk...)

Asalamua'laykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatu

You said that the use of taweez was permissible but i have found this from researching may Allah reward the person who posted this and those that recorded this.

It was narrated from Zaynab the wife of ‘Abd-Allaah ibn Mas’ood from ‘Abd-Allaah that he said:

“I heard the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) say, ‘Spells (ruqyah), amulets and love-charms are shirk.” I said, “Why do you say this? By Allaah, my eye was weeping with a discharge and I kept going to So and so, the Jew, who did a spell for me. When he did the spell, it calmed down.” ‘Abd-Allaah said: “That was just the work of the Shaytaan who was picking it with his hand, and when (the Jew) uttered the spell, he stopped. All you needed to do was to say as the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) used to say: ‘Adhhib il-ba’s Rabb al-naas ishfi anta al-Shaafi laa shifaa’a illa shifaa’uka shifaa’an laa yughaadiru saqaman (Remove the harm, O Lord of mankind, and heal, You are the Healer. There is no healing but Your healing, a healing which leaves no disease behind.’”

(Narrated by Abu Dawood, 3883; Ibn Maajah, 3530)

This hadeeth was classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in al-Silsilat al-Saheehah, 331 and 2972.

and the one who informed us of this

Taweez have duas written in them, not spells, just saying.

"How many people find fault in what they're reading and the fault is in their own understanding" Al Mutanabbi

That hadith does not specify what exactly is shirk - you need to investigate the matter further to get what it covers defined.

In support of Ruqyah, in Sahih Bukhari:

Narrated Abu Said Al-Khudri:

Some of the companions of the Prophet came across a tribe amongst the tribes of the Arabs, and that tribe did not entertain them. While they were in that state, the chief of that tribe was bitten by a snake (or stung by a scorpion).

They said, (to the companions of the Prophet ), "Have you got any medicine with you or anybody who can treat with Ruqya?" The Prophet's companions said, "You refuse to entertain us, so we will not treat (your chief) unless you pay us for it." So they agreed to pay them a flock of sheep.

One of them (the Prophet's companions) started reciting Surat-al-Fatiha and gathering his saliva and spitting it (at the snake-bite). The patient got cured and his people presented the sheep to them, but they said, "We will not take it unless we ask the Prophet (whether it is lawful)." When they asked him, he smiled and said, "How do you know that Surat-al-Fatiha is a Ruqya? Take it (flock of sheep) and assign a share for me."

and you will find many others too, both including taweez where the sahabahs used to tie verses of the qur'an around young children who were not yet old enough to read those verses themselves etc.

Other examples:

Narrated 'Aisha:

The Prophet ordered me or somebody else to do Ruqya (if there was danger) from an evil eye.

Narrated Al-Aswad:

I asked 'Aisha about treating poisonous stings (a snake-bite or a scorpion sting) with a Ruqya. She said, "The Prophet allowed the treatment of poisonous sting with Ruqya."

By way of explanation I will add that what is not allowed is calling on a course other than God for help with the idea that the power for the help is from a source other than God. That is shirk.

However having the understading that all power is from God changes everything and in that case using ruqya changes from shirk to sunnah.

(I will note with interest that the hadith quoted on the previous page is not from sahih bukhari and some followers of some shaykh will reject them on that basis when it doesnt suit them, but will quote from the same sources when it does. Saying that, the sunnah is not encapsulated in Sahih Bukhari, or even just the 6 major books of ahadith.)
