Meet Nabeela, but you can call her Nabs. She is just 22, an aspiring young medical graduate, beauty and brains that would make any man happy. So here's her story.
Jameel: Hey nabs, congratulations I heard you graduated top of your class, we should party tonight, what you think.
Nabeela: Oh Jamz I would love to, but nani's ill and I got to go visit her at the hospital.
Jameel: Bummer, some other time then.
Nabeela: For sure.
Jameel: Looking hot today, pulling the wool over my eyes and making nani an excuse, u sure you don't have a date?
Nabeela: Oh come on Jamz u know I won't lie to you, you are my best friend.
Jameel: I hope so, you know any aloo you choose to marry has to get my approval first right?
Nabeela: Ofcourse, I could never make a decision without your help, you know that. Besides marriage is the last thing on my mind right now I have a career remember.
Jameel: You go gal, friends for life.
Nabeela: Yep, for life.
Jameel: Gotta run, I'll catch you later.
Later that evening after visiting nani at the hospital...
Dad: Nabeela beti, you know nani is not well and we are getting old too, you have graduated from university alhumdhullilah, your mum and I think it's time you get married.
Nabeela: MARRIED, BUT WHY????
Dad: All girls get married and you have reached that age too.
Nabeela: I know dad, but not just yet, I am still young and want to enjoy life first.
Dad: Who says you can't enjoy life after you get married, you still can with your husband.
Nabeela: No dad not now, maybe in 5 years time.
Dad: 5 YEARS!! NO WAY. You are going to get married now, I have always given you everything you wanted, but now you will listen to me. There is a good boy interested in you, your mum and I feel he will be a good match for you. He is coming tomorrow.
Nabeela: TOMORROW
Dad: Yes, and you will be here and I am not taking no for an answer.
Nabeela: But DAAAD,
Dad: No if's no buts, it's final.
Nabeela confused and worried she messages Jameel...
Nabeela: Hey Jamz beeg probs, dad's got a boy to come see me tomorrow
Jameel: Kewl, can I come too, are you going to be doing the bhangra dance, oooh that will look so sexy.
Nabeela: Stoppit Jamz, this is serious, I don't know what to do?
Jameel: Ok, stay calm, what's the worst that can happen, he will propose and you can say no right?
Nabeela: Yeh I could.
Jameel: See no need to freak out.
Nabeela: Oh Jamz, I don't know what I would do without you.
Jameel: Get married to some old geezer thats what you'll do.
Nabeela: Do you ever get serious??
Jameel: No, you know that nabs.
Next day, boy arrives with family and rings the doorbell, ding dong...
Everyone is running about neatening up here and there, mum is doing her last minute make-up touch up, nabs can't decide what to wear.
Dad: Asslamu alaikum Anwar bhai, nice to meet
Anwar Bhai: Wa alaikum Salaam nice to meet you to.
Dad: Come in, come in, sit, sit. This must be Taufeeq, I have heard so much about you.
Taufeeq: Jee
Dad: This is my wife Munira
Anwar Bhai: This is my wife Sharifa
Mum: I have heard so much about your family, we are just so excited to have you here.
Sharifa Aunty: We have heard a lot about Nabeela too, beautiful and intelligent, a doctor, I am sure she will keep my son very happy. Where is she by the way.
Mum: She should be ready any moment, you now the youngsters of today.
Sharifa Aunty: My Taufeeq also takes forever to get ready.
Dad: So Taufeeq I hear you are an engineer and are making beeg waves in the corporate world?
Taufeeq: Jee, Jee uncle, I'm trying my best.
Dad: Can we offer you guys something to drink, tanda, gharam?
Anwar Bhai: Just some tea
Mum: I will be right back
In the kitchen, mum is shouting nabeela...
Mum: What took you so long the guest are here already.
Nabeela: I could'nt make up my mind what to wear.
Mum: Ok, ok, here take the tray.
Nabeela: Do I have to? what if I fall, I'm not used to these heels.
Mum: Just go.
Back in the lounge...
Dad: This is my daughter Nabeela.
Anwar Bhai: Wah, wah, very beautiful
Sharifa Aunty: Masha allah, very ghubsoorat, Taufeeq you can close you mouth now!!
Taufeeq: Shy and blushing, looks down.
After Taufeeq and Nabeela meet the guests leave.
Dad: Very good boy, what you think darling?
Mum: A very good match for our Nabu, he's soo handsome and an engineer too.
Dad: What you think Nabeela?
Nabeela: He's alright.
The next day, Taufeeq proposes for Nabeela, she refuses and dad is in a fit of rage.
Nabeela stalls her dad and tells him she will think about it, she goes to see Jameel.
Nabeela: Jamz I don't know what to do, everyone is upset with me cos I am refusing to marry Taufeeq, what should i do?
Jameel: Well nabs, what is your reason for refusing him in the first place?
Nabeela: I don't know, guess I am just not ready, just did'nt expect to get married so soon.
Jameel: So it's got nothing to do with the guy? he's all there, good looking, not as good as me though, but he'll pass, intelligent, honest, everything you could possibly want in a guy right?
Nabeel: Well, (hesitates for a while), I guess so.
Jameel: So you have no real grounds for refusal other than not being ready?
Nabeela: yeah, something like that.
Jameel: I think you should get married to him, what's he's name the toffee guy?
Nabeela: You mean Taufeeq, married just like that? why?
Jameel: He seems like a good catch, may not find someone like him again.
Nabeela: I'll think about it.
After much consideration Nabeela finally agrees to get married. After a huge wedding ceremony and international honeymoon the couple return home.
Jameel messages Nabeela...
Jameel: Hi nabs, what's up? hows married life? having fun with toffee man??
Nabeela: It's ok, Taufeeq is fine.
Jameel: So when you coming to see me dollie?
Nabeela: Hows tomorrow? we can go for coffee
Jameel: Kewl, see you tomorrow then.
Taufeeq finds out about Nabeela and Jameels private meeting and friendship and he's not impressed.
Taufeeq: Who's this Jameel you went out to see, is he your family?
Nabeela: No he's just a friend from uni.
Taufeeq: A friend, how come you never told me about him?
Nabeela: It's nothing serious.
Taufeeq: I don't want you to see him anymore.
Nabeela: Why not? we're just friends.
Taufeeq: Good then you should'nt have any complications in ending it.
Nabeela: NO!! I will not end my friendship with Jameel, he is my best friend.
Taufeeq: I am your husband and your only male friend now, you can have friends but not ghair mahram men.
Nabeela: Jameel is not like other men, he never looks at me like that.
Taufeeq: I DON'T CARE HOW HE LOOKS AT YOU, YOU WILL NOT MEET HIM ANYMORE.
Nabeela: WHO THE HELL ARE YOU TO TELL ME WHAT I CAN DO AND WHAT I CAN'T. CRAWL OUT OF YOUR CAVEMAN IDEOLOGIES, I AM A MODERN GIRL AND I KNOW HOW TO CHOOSE MY FRIENDS.
Taufeeq: So you will not stop seeing him?
Nabeela: No I won't.
Taufeeq: Why are you doing this Nabeela, why are you breaking our marriage, don't make me do things I don't want to do.
Nabeela: OH YEAH! LIKE WHAT? GIVE ME A TALAQ, YOU THINK I AM SCARED OF YOUR THREATS, DIVORCE ME IF YOU WANT, I CAN TAKE CARE OF MYSELF, I DON'T NEED YOU OR YOUR MONEY, I AM A DOCTOR REMEMBER!!
Taufeeq: TALAQ, TALAQ, TALAQ. NOW GET OUT OF MY HOUSE AND MY LIFE!!
Nabeela angrily storms out of the house. A marriage devastated, lives ruined, families torn apart.
Often situations are made worse when Islam is lacking in the home, when proper islamic teaching is not imparted to children. When islamic values and teachings are regarded as old fashioned and out of date. This story may seem common or nothing out of the ordinary, but the reality is these type of issues are becoming a reality more and more often. As common as they are we cannot see the cure, which lies only in Islam and it's pristine teachings.
Disclaimer: Though the above drama has shown the ignorance of the wife Nabeela, I am in no way suggesting that all women are ignorant or that women should not become doctors. There are an equal amount of men who are just as ignorant of islamic teachings and values.
Comments
Maybe you should've written about a guy version then.
I know it was supposed to be serious but I found it funny. Hmm may Allah guide us all.

Wasn't Taufeeq in the wrong also? Should he not be able t trust Nabeela, without eing controlling?

True true. He was pretty heavy on and you're not supposed give talaq so quickly! They didn't even try working on the problem.
(of course being friends with a non mahram is (arguably?) wrong )

you cant give all three talaqs in one go. it has to be on three different occasion.
and she should just get married to Jameel.
nice piece though.
Is it true? Is it kind? Is it necessary?
I was *just* gna edit my post to write that!
And Jameel's probably a kebab not an aloo lol ... Err ignore
