I was just wondering how much you see this country as your own since most of us aren't white/English.
For some reason, I don't think it's 'right' for me to protest against the monarchy and try to get rid of them. It just feels like a very English thing and not really my place to try and get rid of them especially when they don't affect me in any way. Perhaps I only feel that way since I don't care for the Royal family either way.
I support Pakistan when they're playing anyone else in cricket.
Culturally I'm waaaaaaaaaay more asian than english.
Oh and I know all the words to the Pakistani national anthem but not the British one. I don't like the British anthem though.
On the other hand, I could never feel Pakistan was 'my' country. I feel very out of place there and when I come back is when I'm relieved to be home. And if there was any other sort of protest, maybe one against the government/proposed laws then I would back it, if I agreed with it.
And going be "your mother tongue is the one you dream in", My mother tongue is english!
well..the british anthem is BLASPHEMYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
and maybe you'd feel at home in PAkistan if all your mates and your house was there?
can you imagine the UNA? United Nations of Africa? Africa being a well developped, totally advanced continent? i can. and the dreamy me is basically thinking about moving there before it happens so i can be PART of it.
Is it true? Is it kind? Is it necessary?
If you were in Pakistan, you would probably take the opposite stance here. Just to annoy people.
Or I would.
"For too long, we have been a passively tolerant society, saying to our citizens 'as long as you obey the law, we will leave you alone'" - David Cameron, UK Prime Minister. 13 May 2015.
thats a very good point actually, who do you support in international sports competition.
i dont feel compulsed of attracted to any team tbh.
but for the olympics i might support France, co i'm in England and to annoy...
and its fun and "exotic" to support Mauritius when they make a rare appearance anywhere.
or i might just support England
or i'm taking a fancy to MAlaysia these days so...
what about Palestine?
just call me TCK (third culture kid)
Is it true? Is it kind? Is it necessary?
At OP, i "gets" you....
I mean when anyone says "back home" i just look at them blankly and think "You've only lived at "home" for a couple of weeks every 5 years...Does that still count :s????"
Death is the end of time. Not the end of Life.

It's more about the peoples mentality over there, I wouldn't be able to live it.
"How many people find fault in what they're reading and the fault is in their own understanding" Al Mutanabbi
not enough to salute to good old jack, on a serious note i don't consider myself much to be british, its not enough to just eat and live here to say im british...well you know how it goes, you can physically be in one place, yet your heart and mind will wonder elsewhere, longing for some change that your life currently lacks
ok yeah fine i consider myself a pakistani more, only because of attachment
I think the kids in the UK are facing an identity crisis because when they go back to there parents country of origin for a holiday they get called Walaiti[Brits] and when they are in the UK they get called by the origin of there parents country which confuses them
My English is not very good
British muslim youth from ethnic background are suffering from something I like to call 'Multiple Identity Crisis Syndrome' (all rights reserved).
Its a weird n wonderful thing. Makes us unique, we have our own sub-culture and tradition.
I myself consider to be a british muslim. Yet I pay attention to what goes on in pakistani politics. I go to visit every now n again. Would never move there though!!!

Miss Power is right on many things.
I love Britain because I love British people. They are so cool.
I love the language. And, I also like the Anthem. Its beautiful.
The British Anthem:
God Save the Queen
God save our gracious Queen,
Long live our noble Queen,
God save the Queen:
Send her victorious,
Happy and glorious,
Long to reign over us:
God save the Queen.
O Lord, our God, arise,
Scatter her enemies,
And make them fall.
Confound their politics,
Frustrate their knavish tricks,
On Thee our hopes we fix,
God save us all.
Thy choicest gifts in store,
On her be pleased to pour;
Long may she reign:
May she defend our laws,
And ever give us cause
To sing with heart and voice
God save the Queen.
Omrow

Leads the way to progress and perfection
Interpreter of our past, glory of our present
Inspiration of our future!
Shelter of God, the Glorious and Mighty
Having a national anthem is almost definitely imitating the kafirun, & what more it's imitating the imperialist kafirun who tore lands apart & subjugated the population.
Nationalism, eww
Don't just do something! Stand there.
I think the Pakistani National Anthem is better than the Britsh one to be honest.
But I consider myself more British than Pakistani, I love this country I feel at home here. I wouldn't feel like that in Pakistan, to be honest.
In football I would probably support England, but if they played against Palestine (yeah they have their own team now!) then I would support them.
Speaking of anthems and Palestine, there are two Fidai (My Redemption) and Mawtini (My Homeland).

Surah Al Fatiha is the global anthem of all Muslims.
Sunnis and Shias both read it at least 17 times a day.

The Compassionate, the Merciful.

Syndrome doesn't sound very positive! I do agree it's weird and wonderful though. I can't say I've ever felt out of place over here, even if others don't see me as being British - I believe I am. We get the best of both worlds
Don't you find it hard and depressing to keep up with Pk politics?
What's stopping you from moving there?
What do you find beautiful about it?
Agreed with Lampy!

its very long and confusing, and they use big words..skimming through it with a headache im getting about 30% of it. but i like the tune. very battle-like.obviously its about the great revolution. whatver date that was. oh and its called "La MArseillaise" which is basically the fenminin adjective of something/someone coming from MArseille; a city south of london with an AWESOME accent.
AUX ARRRRRRMESS CITOYEEEENNNSSSS!! i bet if i sand this in the street i'd get booked for terrorism. damn.
Is it true? Is it kind? Is it necessary?
this seems to be the Mauritian one according to wiki. quite disappointing. British empire did leave a stinking trace everywhere. i mean. MAuritius! i expected something more..."tropical" and maybe not in english.
even the PAkistani one. i did not expect that. sounds all so britishified.
Is it true? Is it kind? Is it necessary?
huh? how?
and lol you've already mentioned the 3rd culture kid thing
"How many people find fault in what they're reading and the fault is in their own understanding" Al Mutanabbi
Very.
Feel even more British when I'm not in Britain.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/blog/quiz/2011/oct/11/uk-citizenship-test-q...
I got 8 out of a possible 24, which means i failed and i'm not 'British' enough LoL. Can't believe this is the actual test people have to take for citizenship in the UK...i'm certain most people in the UK wouldn't be able to pass this test even after living here for all their life.
This test is a joke.....anyone else wanna see if they need to be deported? .......hmmm i hope they send me somwhere hot.
