Saudi Arabia announce Eid was done wrong - Those that did Eid on Tuesday need to make up a fast.
Saudi government admitted there's been a mistake about the correct day of Id Al Fitr this year(2011). This occured due to misunderstanding of a particular phenomenon cause by planet Saturnus as before happened a couple of years ago caused by planet Mercurius. What it thought to be Hilal(new moon) is actually not. The Government gave order to the people and citizen of Saudi Kingdom to qodlo fasting day of one day because Ied Al-Fitr supposed to be on August 31/2011 and not on August 30/2011. As also there's news that Saudi Government will pay Kafarah money 1 Billion reyal for this mistake

Saudi government admitted
Is it official? I mean have they been seen/heard saying it?
That's pretty serious :/
Apparently there's an (old) fatwa by dar ul uloom (deobandis) which tells people not to listen to Saudi for moonsighting cuz they mess it up on purpose...sounds like paranoia/strong hatred to me :/
Anyway I'm cool, I did eid on wednesday

Me too there was a debate going on last night on the Ummah Channal based in Blackburn
why do say it was brave? they were wrong so they had to admit it
Re: Saudi Arabia announce Eid was done wrong - Those that ...
a lot of people would try to hide their mistakes.
Re: Saudi Arabia announce Eid was done wrong - Those that ...
The official saudi government website http://www.saudi.gov.sa/wps/portal/espp has monday down as the 6th of Shawaal. This would make Wednesday the first of Shawaal.
If that is the case, they are admitting to have gotten Eid wrong and thsose that did taqleed of Saudi need to make up their missed fast.
On the other hand i have not seen any official reports in english and the google translation of the arabic ones just suggests that there are open questions as opposed to an official confirmation.
Re: Saudi Arabia announce Eid was done wrong - Those that ...
That video seems to be that some people of Taif rejected the official government date of eid for tuesday and did it on wednesday.

But this is a very serious mistake which they would not be able to hide for long someone would have caught them out at some stage maybe that's why they admitted it
Re: Saudi Arabia announce Eid was done wrong - Those that ...
It could be a political gesture from the people and unsupported by the government - the people in the video doing eid on another day, a part of them joining the arab spring cleaning that is going on currently.

That's a very good point you got there, they had to do it now when the Arab world is already unstable
Did you hear about the death of Saudi King Abdullah a few days ago?
Re: Saudi Arabia announce Eid was done wrong - Those that ...
I didnt and I assume that it was not correct, just another rumour.

I checked the above link today, 7 September, and it says 9 Shawal !
Obviously, the above reports of official acknowledgement of any mistake
are totally NOT correct. It sounds like a conspiracy.
Do remember, divided we fall, united ....... etc. etc. When will we learn?
There is no such thing as Saudi muslims, Ummah muslims, Pakistan muslims,
Indian muslims, sunni muslims, shia muslims, wahabi muslims, hanafi muslims,
etc. etc. There is only ONE kind of muslim. Ask yourself, are you included in this
muslim? One or two day difference in celeberating Ramadhan, or Eid
makes NO difference to the REAL Ummha.

Unity is not about having no differences - they have existed from when the prophet ﷺ left this world and will continue long into the future.
It is about how those differences are expressed and if we keep pretending that unity is about having no differences at all, all we do is prolong disunity and weakness.

yes and that does not include official saudi confirmation: it says the opposite - their "scholars" want to crack down on people questioning their word.

No wonder there are protests and up risings in the Arab world
Re: Saudi Arabia announce Eid was done wrong - Those that ...
Alhamdullilah my family did Eid on the right day!
But i dont understand why others follow Saudi Arabia :S
In the Quran it states when the moon is sighted Eid should be celebrated or if one has seen the moon then Eid can be celebrated....with out sighting the moon how can anyone make a huge decision!

What about Salman al Farsi (ra)?
One of the earliest Muslim concerts he was names Salman the Persian so he (ra) was a Persian Muslim.
when I converted I didn't suddenly stop being a Londoner.
There's a difference between this and holding loyalty to a nation over other Muslims/ Allah (swt).

yeh there's people against the claim, and people for it. Who to believe? siiigh.
Re: Saudi Arabia announce Eid was done wrong - Those that ...
Salam, Btw, Quran does not say anything about sighting the moon for eid. The guidance on this issue comes from our Prophet (peace be upon him) and his companions (may Allah be pleased with them).
I however agree that following Saudi is really dumb and has no basis. One has to have a better basis/reason for why the celebrated eid on tuesday or wednesday, e.g. people celebrating on tuesday may say that we follow global sighting of moon, since, the moon was sighted in parts of South America. while people celebrating on wednesday may say that we follow local sighting. In short, there has to be a convincing reason for following one opinion or the other, rather than following Saudis blindly.

This is what has got us into trouble in the first place
Re: Saudi Arabia announce Eid was done wrong - Those that ...
they have to admit it,After making half of the world do it on the wrong day?
Re: Saudi Arabia announce Eid was done wrong - Those that ...
They havent and they may consider that they did it right.
Re: Saudi Arabia announce Eid was done wrong - Those that ...
Saudis do the Eid a day ahead most of the time. The Arab News had already published an article on Aug 26th saying that it was not possible to sight the moon on Monday since the moon will set before the sun. (The crescent can only be sighted if the moon sets after the sun).
Read Arab News article here. http://arabnews.com/saudiarabia/article494126.ece
Also, there's a great sight for US but it caters to the whole globe of possible sightings of the crescent. http://www.hilalsighting.org/hilal-visibility-curves-mainmenu-38
Remember, the new Islamic month begins with the sighting of the crescent, not with the birth of the new moon.
And Allah knows best.

I've read that even if the moon has been born you have to SEE it, with your own eyes - therefore this technology telling you when its gna be born is not a valid way of starting the new month.
