What do we have to be proud?

As a Muslim ummah, what do we have to be proud of in this day and age?

What are we actually doing right? (cuz there seems to be a lot wrong!)

mosque attendance is higher than church attendance in Britain as far as I know.

and that's not as a percentage of religious people or anything, that's total attendances.

Also, we believe in the true religion.

Surely if someone else does something good, it is them doing it and nto you, so not something for you to be proud of?

all muslims are part of one ummah, the muslim ummah is referred to as one body; therefore knowing that the muslim ummah is growing only makes us stronger which is clearly something to be happy with and proud of.

yep, I'm talking about dunya things. I mean despite having a better mosque attendance and all those converts, we're not really doing anything are we? We're still seen as the extremists, backwards people etc etc who don't actually achieve anything.

The Islamic golden age so Muslim at the forefront of scientific discovery and we've had a number of great warriors...and that's all I know really :oops:

But what about now? What do we excel in?

Warfare has changed beyond recognistion and in other areas such as science and technology, I am sure there are plenty of Muslim scientists and engineers etc.

The difference is that they are no longer geographically confined and can still be Muslim and be excellent at what they do without being in the middle east.

True, but there isn't anything outstanding that Muslims are known for - not just in the middle east, and not just in science & technology.

And even if we look at the little things, are most of us getting educated? getting decent jobs? (<< they're not rhetorical Qs, I don't actually know, although I'm guessing most aren't)

There seems to be a high number of Muslim prisoners too :/

Actually even if we were talking about it Islamically, how much do we actually live by Islam? These days every other person is drinking, doing drugs, has haram relationships, to name just a few.

An example where knowledge is not to free flowing: Nuclear physics.

Even here, Pakistan has nuclear scientists, the head of the Indian Nuclear team was Muslim, Iran, Syria, Egypt, Libya and others also have expertise in the field.

The IAEA head for a long time was a Muslim too - El Baradei.

theres loads of young muslims out there who want to learn more about their religion nowadays. if you go into an islamic lecture/talk; you'll the see how many young muslims attend it, and alhamdulillah theres so many muslims so it shows that the youth are eager to learn about theyre religion.
there is the non practicing youth out there as well but the population of muslims in an islamic conference definitely beat the amount that's sitting there out side on the streets doing the bad things; it's just that the bad things seem to get noticed more as they're more upfront.
a pious muslim is humble, they have humiltiy in them; and don't intend to scream out to the world that they're good. but a bad person would tend to have the 'i dont care' look; and not be bothered much if they're noticed and therefore they are noticed more.

the media picks out the bad bits about islam and muslims; but thats just how the media works (well most of it) try going into an islamic conference, and thats where you see the true beauty of islam and the muslim ummah, it just literally proves all those negative comments about muslims are totally incorrect.
there are many good muslims out there alhamdulillah!

Islam isn't limited to Islamic conferences and from what I understood from your previous post, I thought you were saying the number of youth who attend such conferences outnumber those who don't. I'm pretty sure that isn't true! Not where I am from, anyway.

Oh, and I'm not talking about the media's portrayal of things. Just picking out the obvious stuff. 🙂

i guess then depending on the area what i sad may differ, but i think that its just that when a muslim does something bad it seems to stand out and remain as a scar; and therefore the positive points about muslims aren't noticed as much..

I don't know any muslims who are leading experts in whatever fields..buuut I think we can take pride in the smallest things even that a muslim does for it's community (muslim and non muslim). Like the locl masjid giving weekly talks, trying to give people a chance to learn about their deen. (When I went this week, most of the people there actually were youngsters mashAllah). just little things like that is more than enough to be proud of imo.
